warmwinds Posted March 2, 2009 Author #26 Share Posted March 2, 2009 Were your "ugly curtains" the Attilla the Hun ones? We thought they were so funny - what an odd decor choice! We had a blue print sofa which was nicer than other m-class cabins we've had which were always some bright screaming canary yellow.
luvocean9 Posted March 2, 2009 #27 Share Posted March 2, 2009 Thanks so much for the information. I would love to know what was on the menu. Are they posted anywhere? My mother and I are going on this cruise 3/21. It is our first time on Celebrity. When we return to SJ on 3/28, our flight doesn't leave until 2:15 PM. There's not really enough time to do anything, so we are hoping we can stay on the ship until 11 AM or so. Does anyone know what time they kick you out of your cabin and what time they will kick us off the ship? We are hoping we can sleep a little late and then go to breakfast and wait it out there until time to leave for the airport.

espmass Posted March 2, 2009 #29 Share Posted March 2, 2009 You said the taxi drivers said $25. Is that the one way charge? Guess it would pay for us to find two other people who are interested in sharing a cab then.
Rare hcat Posted March 2, 2009 #30 Share Posted March 2, 2009 So even with some of the signs of wear would this be a good choice for Bermuda? Also, someone mentioned announcements in English & Spanish (due to sailing from Sam Juan)..but were there many announcements? Celebrity usually keeps announcements to a minimum. Hope that is still the case.
warmwinds Posted March 2, 2009 Author #31 Share Posted March 2, 2009 I'm counting down the days to book for Bermuda myself. I did not feel the wear and tear would be a deterrent - she is still so beautiful underneath, just needs a little more make-up - a little lipstick, a little mascara. Announcements were still kept to a minimum (maybe slightly more than before - I believe the CD used to announce stuff once a day, I believe this trip it was twice), and you still couldn't hear them in your cabin, you had to open the door if you wanted to hear them. The important announcements, including the updates on the injured passengers, came from the Captain and could be heard in your cabin.
gillianrose Posted March 3, 2009 #32 Share Posted March 3, 2009 Even Eggs Benedict was way overcooked. Were the Eggs Benedict cooked to your order or had they been pre-prepared and arranged with other items in the buffet?
Rare Texed Posted March 3, 2009 #33 Share Posted March 3, 2009 I'm not a big breakfast person but all the usual suspects were there. You didn't have waffles? Thanks for the review. :)
Rare Texed Posted March 3, 2009 #34 Share Posted March 3, 2009 Likewise breakfast in MDR on other mornings did not include many things that could not be found on buffet. Rare Texed Posted March 3, 2009 #35 Share Posted March 3, 2009 . We are sailing on the Summit on 3/14 ! Why don't you join our roll call on the roll call board? :)
jayred1 Posted March 3, 2009 #36 Share Posted March 3, 2009 warmwinds - My wife said they were something "horses and riders". The only thing I remembered about the room is the bedspread was blue and the towel "animals" were fun to see each night. As you can tell, I don't pay a lot of attention to decor. :) But now I cheated and looked back at a couple room pictures and the curtains were Attila the Hun. I don't know if I'd call them "ugly", but I would open them up and take in the pretty blues of the sea/sky! texed - Had the waffles every day but 1 (woke up late and too long a line). I hadn't bothered the other cruises, but after everyone's (your!) references I had to try them! mmmmm luvocean9 - There was another thread that had recent Summit menus and others said it was the same on every Summit cruise; however, our cruise had changes from that one. I don't know if they've made a revision or if they are varying it from cruise to cruise. Unfortunately, I didn't get copies of our menus.
warmwinds Posted March 3, 2009 Author #37 Share Posted March 3, 2009 You know, I tried the waffles once but they gave me one that had been sitting around, so it was not that great :( I almost asked for a fresh one but didn't want to be a pain. It was ok. What I DID notice about the waffles that was different from our last cruise was that you can now get bacon, etc. down where the waffles are - before you had to go get into the other line for the meats. That was nice.

lobster129 Posted March 3, 2009 #39 Share Posted March 3, 2009 Not to worry...waffles served daily were great and fresh. There was usually a line but it moved relatively quickly. Only once was the waffle police there limiting passengers to one waffle per person. Room service breakfast was very good as well. No waffles but could write in additional requests like yogurt or fresh berries and they always delivered on time as requested. Maybe I should focus on the exceptionally good items in the MDR. Cold soups were excellent. Escargot superb. There was a crab stuffed white fish that was very good. The first nights prime rib was good too. Salmon from the "always available" was good too. I thought they did well with presentation of selections...they always looked appealing. I am pleased that Celebrity continues to limit overhead announcements to things we really needed to know...and mostly from the captain. They are definitely a class act with welcoming champagne & mimosas, escort to your cabin on arrival including assistance with carry-on luggage, icy cold towels on return to the ship from excursions. Warmwinds: we had 2nd seating, 5th level, table for 10. Very glad we did not do first seating with this port intensive cruise. We were happy to have time for a snack, swim, shower or snooze on return from excursions. Plenty of time to get ready for dinner etc without rushing. As far as ice carvings, fancy crudites etc are a pleasure to view...just a special accent.:) A couple of our adult tablemates work in management in grocery and other food service and were disappointed not to be able to see these special things. Oh well. I'm sorry if I made it sound like we did not enjoy the cruise...because we did. Was it still a good deal for the $$, yes...but we had 3 price reductions. I was not as impressed with MDR selections as I had hoped. But I am certainly not the first to share this sentiment. IF I were doing it again, I would do at least one more specialty dining evening. We have 3 nights booked for our Solstice cruise and will likely increase that to additional nights. The ship is not brand new, but overall she is aging gracefully. If someone is looking for a fresh updated look, Summit may not be their best choice. The artwork is still impressive, the public spaces are more updated. I really don't care about my cabins colors as long as it has good beds...which it did (much better than our last M-class ship!) Enjoy your future cruises on Summit. We are hoping we can sleep a little late and then go to breakfast and wait it out there until time to leave for the airport. Good morning:) The latest I have ever been able to stay on the ship was between 10:00 and 10:30. With a 2:15 flight you could ask for "last group off". Go to Guest Relations and put in the request with them. My flights have been in the same time frame as yours before. They really want everyone off so they can allow the next group to start boarding;) Out of the cabins? They usually ask for 8:00. As for breakfast...it is usually served between 6 and 8. I have waited outside on the AFT area of the buffet before and strolled off at that later time. But no "late breakfast". Fortuntely, that AFT area I mentioned is lovely:) Just remember to see Guest Relations and put in as late as possible disembarking. Otherwise, they might put you in the 8:30 group! I have had that happen before...went back and they changed it to a later time. Hope you and your Mom have a wonderful cruise:)

olds1937 Posted March 3, 2009 #43 Share Posted March 3, 2009 Warmwinds Thanks for the great, honest review. I have booked the Pigeon Point Beach excursions and thinking about canceling it now and taking a taxi. Did the excursion include anything other than transportation? What time did you leave the ship?
warmwinds Posted March 3, 2009 Author #44 Share Posted March 3, 2009 The excursion included the transportation and entry fee - you had to pay $2 pp for lounge chairs. It left pretty early - 9-9:30 or so? That was good because it wasn't too crowded, and we got a nice spot under a palm tree, not far from the water...when we left there were lots of chairs in front of us (not a big deal) but they were all in the sun. If you take a taxi I'd recommend going early, also.
luvocean9 Posted March 4, 2009 #45 Share Posted March 4, 2009 Lois R - Thanks so much for the information. We will definitely request "last off". Didn't know you could do that. On my last cruise, the cabin steward told me I could hang out and he would do my cabin last. Very nice of him. About breakfast on the last day, isn't the waterfall buffet open later than 8AM? warmwinds Posted March 4, 2009 Author #47 Share Posted March 4, 2009 Are you in Concierge Class? We got to go to the Cinema (which was very roomy) and they had coffee, tea, juice and pastries out until I think they said 10:30. We didn't know about asking for last off, either, and our flight was at 1:45 - it's a nice airport, clean and bright, but still it was a LONG time to hang around. Rare Lois R Posted March 4, 2009 #50 Share Posted March 4, 2009 No, we are not in CC. That's good to know about the theatre having some breakfast items. Was that for CC only? Hi again:) The smaller venues for disembarkation (Cinema, for example) is for CC and/or Elite members. It is one of the few perks offered;). The "Celebrity Theater" is the one where the shows are held and many pax are assigned there for disembarkation morning. (no breakfast offered in there).
