Refunding of leftover On Board Credit....Just a FYI

Recommended Posts

Just off the Mariner....4 Days post-cruise

I had various OBC's and was curious what would happen to whatever credit went unused at the end of the cruise. I charged up $116 on my SeaPass account.

Today the rest of my leftover OBC was refunded back to my credit card in full. It looks like they took the NC certificate off the top.

here is what I had in credit:

$35 fuel surcharge refund

$250 Visa points OBC

$40 Travel Agent OBC

$100 *Next Cruise* certificate (listed on my SeaPass reciept as *no refund*)

You are right.

I had 200 OBC NC cert and Stock, Ialso just got off the Mainer and was told NO REFUND.

Also you can't take it out in the casino that will go on your credit card.

Only Travel agent OBC and Visa OBC you can take out fot cash.

I was just gonna post a question about getting refunds but figured I would search first...example - if we have On Board Credits from our RCCL Visa of $500, along with a Next Cruise Certificate of $100 and a Travel Agent OBC of $100, how do they determine what credits get used first?

Hey Spanky! I don't have an answer for you, but I just wanted to say "hi"! :D A lot of years and a lot of cruises have passed since we sailed together on Victory! It's nice to see you're still sailing! I leave in 3 weeks on my NEXT cruise (Liberty of the Seas). Happy sailing to you!

The cash credits get used first. In your case, the cash credits are the Visa and TA OBC's. So if you charge $600, and have $100 in leftover OBC, you get no refund because that last $100 is the non-cash OBC from the NC cert.

I was told the opposite on our last cruise (2/22) - they told me that our OBC for booking would get used first before the cash ones - travel agent credit, fuel surcharge credit, visa credit, and shareholder credit.

Well it would not be the first time we hear different answers to the same question. However, I suspect that Royal would use the cash OBC's first because that way is more in their favor. By using the cash OBC's first, there is more of a chance that their non-cash OBC's will not be used. Also, I believe the shareholder OBC is a non-cash OBC.

Hey Bonnie V, long time no see :) Yes, I remember our Victory cruise...I always tell people that I sailed with Bonnie! As you see, we'll be on (your favorite, I believe) Explorer in May. We did this same cruise 2 years ago but we are going with cruise buddies this time and expect to have a lot of fun. Of course we only get to cruise once a year so we are looking forward to it.

As far as credits, this would mean if you have a Next Cruise Certif and do not use all your credits, you will lose it. It's not hard to use all your credits but it doesn't seem fair that you are forced to do it.

Spanky, you will have NO problem using up ALL your credits! ;) I know how your going to use them too! There are LOTS of bars on Explorer! :D And YES, I still love Explorer of the Seas and rank her near the top of my list! But, honestly, I've never had a bad cruise! :)

I emailed the Crown and Anchor and received this response re: Cruise onboard credits:

"Thank you for your e-mail. We apologize for any delay in our response. Onboard charges are deducted from non-refundable credits first, such as onboard booking credit and Gifts & Gear, leaving the refundable portion (Royal Rewards) to be utilized last. Therefore, any unused portion of Royal Rewards onboard credit will be refunded to you.

If we may be of further assistance, please contact us again."

So, according to this, as long as you use up non-Royal Rewards credits, you will get your leftover credits back.

That's nice to know. Thanks for sharing Royal's response. It might be a good idea to bring a written copy on board.

I would just like to know how you only used $125?? I will have $350, and it will, no doubt, be used..and then the rest will be charged to my seapass. By the time you have the frozen drinks, buy a few items at the shops (liquor, t-shirts, Christmas ornament), a couple of bottles of wine and some random items in the shops that you think you can't live without (coconut rum cakes, okay)...and an excursion that you just don't want to fool with booking ahead of time, plus the soda card, and a couple of charges at Johnny Rockets or a meal at Portofinos..I have "sticker" shock on the last day when I look at my charges. ..to look each day would defeat the purpose of my balcony, and would require at least another bottle of wine afterwards. We will be sailing in June. Would you consider transferring your left-over crdits to my account????

I thought that if you paid the 3% you could take cash out of the casino- How would RCL know if you are in the casino and trying to take out money where it is coming from??

They can tell if it's refundable or nonrefundable by the "coding" that goes with the OBC.

We had $200 NC / Shareholder OBC and we had a shore excursion cancelled because of weather ($92)...we were able to get $92 cash from the pursur.....we didn't use the entire $200 OBC so the balance ($11.03) was actually credited to our credit card that we used on our seapass.

Oh, to get off a cruise and be due a credit would be a crying shame! LOL :D No matter how many OBC's I have, I have always used them plus some. My last cruise, there was a $50 OBC that was never issued by RCCI. They refunded it to my credit card, lickity-split, with no problems.

For me, I have all the useless trinkets and tshirts I need, I don't drink much pop or alcohol. The iced tea and coffee is fine with me. Did most of the excursions I wanted to do on previous cruises and now would rather stay on the deserted ship instead. Not much into spa stuff. So that is how I keep my charges down. :D

My only OBC is from my travel agent. He said if I dont use it all, it would be refunded back to my CC I use onboard. Is this correct?

I am pretty sure that is correct. It would be defined as a refundable credit. But to be sure, verify it at the service desk when you get on the ship.

In February and March we took our advances out of the casino to use our onboard credit and our credit card did not get billed. It just deducted the amount from the onboard credit on our seapass account.
