Private tours in Amalfi, Monte Carlo

Hello,

We will be on the Insignia from May 31 - June 12, from Rome to Istanbul. I have started investigating private tours for a couple of the ports, notably Amalfi and Monte Carlo. I've sent out a few emails to some private tour companies I have seen recommended on this board and have begun to get some quotes back. Is anyone interested in hearing about this? I.E., is anyone interested in the idea of sharing a private van for these tours? I have specifically asked for pricing on seeing Amalfi-Ravello-Positano, and Monte Carlo-Nice-Eze, but I am open to variations of these itineraries.

Alternatively, if anyone here has already got a group going for either of these itineraries, do you have room for two more?

Thanks,

Susan

Susan;

Last spring we used Aldo Esposito www.aldotaxi.net and had a wonderful time in Amalfi, Positano. We couldn't get to Ravello because the road was washed out. He regaled us with stories and took us to fabulous local restaurants for lunch.

In Monte Carlo we walked around on our own and took the local bus to Nice for 1 euro each way.

Hope this helps.

Diana

I've been talking more about this subject in the Roll Call for the subject cruise. In a nutshell, for a private tour of Amalfi, Positano, Ravello, I communicated with 4 tour companies;

SeeSorrento - $126 pp for 4 pax, up to $105pp for 6 pax (I reserved this one)

DriveAmalfi - $190pp for 3 pax, up to $103pp for 8 pax

Romeinlimo - $224pp for 3 pax, up to $108pp for 8 pax

ItalianServices - priced by the hour - hard to say what it would cost.

Prices are in today's conversions.

For Monte Carlo - I'm still working on that one.

We used Marcello from SeeSorrento on our last Med Cruise (Barcelona to Istanbul) and we liked him so much that we're using him again this June.

FYI- If you're doing the Amalfi Drive, let him pick the restaurant.......we're still talking about that meal !

We also toured with Marcello and have him booked out of Sorrento on our May Venice to Rome cruise. "Marcello's" restaurant is wonderful and we'll be going back to it again. The view alone is worth it and the lunch is amazing.

We've toured with Silvie di Cristo out of Monte Carlo and Nice. We toured with her twice and had absolutely wonderful days. Her email is: silvie.di.cristo@wanadoo.fr. Have a wonderful cruise.

Thanks for the the great information here.

Does anyone know where the ship docks or tenders for the Amalfi/Positano stop?

Trying to figure out an excursion there and it would help to know where to tell the service to pick us up.

Thanks

In the Fall of 2007 we used Roberto of Drive Amalfi for our all-day tour. He took us all over the region and to Pompeii. We had drivers in Rome, Florence, Marseille and Amallfi--Roberto was our favorite (think Italian with a British accent and manners).

For Monte Carlo, you could use Eva (Eva a-prestige-tours.com)--she was our driver in Marseille and did a wonderful job. We did not have a driver there. We walked around the town, took a public bus to Eze (unique and absolutely beautiful) and took a cab to the Casino at night.

As for docking in Amalfi or Positano, it depends on the weather and the decision is made by the Captain.

FYI--all the service companies keep up to the minute tabs on the ships they are to meet. There should be no problems meeting with your arranged driver. Also, it is VERY easy to get on and off an Oceania ship, probably because there are less people aboard.

Thank you StanandJim and Joan for your affirmations about my tour guide choice in Amalfi. I am very excited about the tour that day - and now, thanks to both of you - to the lunch as well!

Susan

P.S. I'm still working on a French Riviera guide. I've seen great reviews for Sylvie of Alpes Guides Interpretes and for Revelation Tours, and have heard back from both of them. Any more info on these, or other companies, would be much appreciated.

Thanks for the answer. So it's an either or situation there? Do you happen to know whether these ports are tendered or docked?
