Paying to upgrade at pier

Recommended Posts

Quick and correct answer..........YES! Every port has a pier coordinator, but the real question is......how efficient they are......or "how efficient are they"???:) Some are wonderful.

Now for the truth......we have only dealt with Pier Coordinators here in the United States..........uh, and one in Canada.

I'm not sure what you are looking for....how booked is your cruise today? What are you looking for........that you think that you will get in October? This is the beginning of July.

We booked one of the last OS's on the Jewel of the Seas. for the 2012 westbound TA.......to be exact.

In what catagory are you presently booked? Why do you think that there will be anything open in October, when you cruise out of Venice??

If, per chance.......that you are offered the upgrade........know that it's because someone has forfitted their cabin...due to illness, etc.

If something becomes available, at the cruising deadline......the Pier Coordinator is the person that can give you the best deal.

Good luck on your upcoming cruise...........in getting an upgrade!

Great cruising to you..........as you already have booked a cabin of your choice.......and are now looking to upgrade!

Rick

Booked in an E2 balcony right now, deck 7, hump. Thought it might be nice to see if they had a JS available after we checked in. There are plenty of JS, GS and OS available right now, but yea, I realize it's still three months til sailing. Just trying to think ahead. Have never attempted to speak to a Pier Coordinator before. Right now for us to upgrade to the JS would be $450 per person. I am happy with our balcony cabin but for $400 total for a JS with the Pier Coordinator, I might consider asking about it.

But as The_Big_M pointed out, they may not know what a "Pier Coordinator" is there in Venice, so we'll see.

Thanks for your reply, Rick

I am feeling rather piddled off at the moment!

I have seen a couple of cruise specialists are now selling JS on my cruise for GBP2400 per person less a discount. (Including my own TA)

My D1 cabins cost GBP2535 less 200 early booking discount when i booked last September.

So i called and asked if i can upgrade to a JS, the answer was yes for yet another GBP800 each. The RC website is quoting GBP3455 per person, and not what they are currently selling through agents, so have roughly based the upgrade on these two figures.

We have 2 cabins as the 12/14 year old are in their own, so i am paying 4 adult prices.

They said the prices now are on a different contract to what i booked.

It seems to me nobody can win on the price guarantee, if they just raise the website fares and state its a different contract when you booked.

There are lots of JS still available, even though i need connecting and there are a few of them also available.

Does anyone have any ideas what i can/should do?

Paying another £3200 (USD5000) for two weeks is crazy when there are loads left.

Cheers!

P.S. This is sailing from the UK

The upgrades at the pier are frequently last minute cancellations. We used them in 2004 for the holiday San Juan sailing of the Serenade and 2010 for the Explorer out of Bayonne.

In both cases there were lots of last minute availability due to family medical problems (2004) and bad snow (2010).

We were on the Allure with Radio in May, doing a B2B so did not want to upgrade one week only and have to move our stuff for the second week.

There are no D/D+ balcony discounts when booking the upgrade thru the PC desk, we asked. This is a separate revenue department, only C & A has the balcony discount.

The Pier Coordinator is alive and well at Terminal 18 in Port Everglades.

I sailed Allure of the Seas in May, and I stopped to talk to the Pier Coordinator after I checked in and received my Sea Pass Card.

There were lots of Balconies available, but no Suites. The Miami revenue dept decides what cabins to release to the PC shortly before check in time.

I was already in a balcony cabin at the time, so there were no Pier Coordinator upgrades by me on that day.

where is the pc at port everglades? also, if by chance I get to upgrade, i have a d1 hump balcony midship, would you upgrade to anything higher? I know my sailing looks pretty full so don't know, maybe the only thing left is c lofts, would you upgrade?

I too would like to know where the Pier Coordinator is at Port Everglades. My ship is getting pretty full, but for those of you with insides and oceanviews-tons of balacony cabins are still available.

For me sadly only some JS (which I want) and some Cown Suites (which I doubt I could ever afford, even paying the port upgrade price) is still available as all other suites are already sold out. I am not holding my breath, but I guess it wouldn't hurt to ask.

I wanted to purchase an upgrade on my last cruise. I was told by the Royal Caribbean staff member (and her supervisor) that checked us in for our Jan. 22nd Freedom of the Seas cruise, that there are no longer any pier coordinators at Port Canaveral and that the only way to purchase an upgrade would be on the ship after it sails.
We found the pier coordinator (and snagged an upgrade to a balcony cabin) in Barcelona, but couldn't find a PC in Venice (despite asking)
Would mind sharing how much you paid for the upgrade please? Am sailing from Barcelona in May & would be very interested; also is the pier coordinators desk easily visible?
If you upgrade from a D1 to JS or GS do you still get the bonus C&A points?

Is the price per person or for the cabin???

Oh, and where is the PC in Port Everglades? you check in first then go to the PC??
If you pay extra to upgrade, you get the extra C&A points.

I don't know if anyone has asked this or not, but is there a Pier Coordinator at the port in Galveston? If so, where is the desk located? Also, I saw a list of the prices to upgrade on this thread listed as "inside to inside, inside to outside, etc." I'm not exactly sure how to word this, but does it matter what TYPE of cabin in each category you have? For example, Inside guarantee rooms and Promenade rooms are both categorized as inside rooms. Obviously, the Promenade room is more expensive. Say there is room to upgrade at the port. If you have an inside guarantee room and wish to upgrade to an oceanview or balcony, would you pay the same as someone who paid for a Promenade would, or do they look at the specific cabin you already booked to let you know how much it would be to upgrade?
