butterflyamm12 Posted July 23, 2009 #102 Share Posted July 23, 2009 My husband and I both enjoyed reading this book. He bought it on Amazon. We can't wait if or when a 2nd book may come out.
scuddles Posted July 24, 2009 #103 Share Posted July 24, 2009 Took my youngest to Half Price Books yesterday and they had one copy. I was talking to one of the managers and he stated that he usually gets a copy in and it sells in a day or two. I am half way through, hasn't scared me out of my first cruise yet. Oglaladiver Posted July 26, 2009 #104 Share Posted July 26, 2009 WOW! About half way through the book and all I can say is WOW! Had no idea about any of this. Definitely not the type of book that I would normally read (Im a former Marine, a police officer and race motorcycles...usually read books along those lines). However, this is enthralling. I cant put this book down. Brian, love your writing style. And the stories have me hoooked and waiting with baited breath to see what happens. If anyone hasnt picked this up and read it....do so! Crystalbast Posted July 26, 2009 #105 Share Posted July 26, 2009 I would recommend The Captain's Log by Hans Mateboer. This book is a great read consisting of a series of stories of events taking place on a cruise ship by an author who rose up to the rank of Captain. Some of the stories are really funny. TinaSG Posted July 26, 2009 #106 Share Posted July 26, 2009 My copy arrived from Amazon on Friday and I'm about 75% of the way through. I'm really enjoying the stories and Brian's writing style. I haven't taken my first cruise yet (Thanksgiving 09) but I was shocked at the crazy hours the employees work. You can be assured that I will be tipping well (although I'm normally a good tipper anyway). As for those commenting on Brian's view of the guests (moooo!), I didn't get that from my reading so far. I did see his sharing of what the international employees thought of Americans onboard and in general, which I thought was a bit shocking and sometimes funny. While I don't intend to order 5 entrees or a "big ol' pile o' shrimp with no rice," I'm sure I'll be lumped in with the rest of the cattle anyway. jaja Posted July 26, 2009 #107 Share Posted July 26, 2009 finished the book last week (had ordered it from the library)--loved it... it is always so much fun to "peak behind the scenes" or in this case "below the decks" thank to CC for bringing it to my attention...:D
