Triumph June7th to Canada... The good, bad and Ugly!!

Recommended Posts

I am Chinese and I was on the Triumph too! I was not part of the group. I did not remove the gratuities - I even gave extra gratuities to the dining staff, bar server and room stewards. Just because a few Chinese people were rude and cutting lines, it does not mean that all Chinese people are the same way![/quote]

I didn't say it was all. As I stated I even made friends with a real nice guy in an aft balcony next to mine. I'm in no way racist but they were the ones I saw doing the cutting and were part of alot of issues.

This is the OP's review on a cruise that he took. He is reviewing it as he saw it. Move on if you don't like it. Geesh. Why do people always have to try to start something on this site? Would any of you be upset if he said those lousy Germans or Irish were drunk and loud the whole time? I wouldn't be and I am German and Irish. Knock this stuff off.

Now on with the review.

We are booked in a balcony on the starboard side on the empress deck. Was wondering about seeing the sights as we leave from the balcony, or, would we be better off on one of the open decks? I am very excited to cruise out of New York City!!! :D Any opinions?

I am tired of the entire US population having to be politically correct at all times. Hopefully we are all still free to observe and think; it is illegal to discrimenate for employement and education oportunities. Let the reviewer report their opinion and their experience.

So get real!

Thank You so much for having the nerve to say what i was just thinking. I was really enjoying the review until some other people have to ruin it for the rest of us :(

thanks for the words I didn't want to have to say. I was on this trip and this was what I observed. When I do research on a cruise I take reviews with a grain of salt. I don't want this to turn into some type of bashing thread so anything related to any "decent" issues I'll just iggy and move on.

I'm typing the port day up now and will hopefully have it posted tonight. If not it'll come tomorrow morning before I leave for other plans.

i was on this ship and what she says is what happened. in fact, the woman who won the money was in her 70's and didn't cash out her money from the machine right. i didn't like the way they had that set up either and it was confusing. she sat on my left side at the dinner table. her name was jane and her and her traveling companion told the story. so while i didn't witness it i heard it from the horse's mouth.

did i see people removing their tips???? holy crap i did. it was hours of it at the purser's desk.

I brought with me 1/2 shorts and 1/2 pants. I wore shorts onto the ship and shorts on the first day at sea. After that it didn't get warm enough for me to wear them. It was 80-85 on sunday and monday and I think they said 70 on our port day. On the second sea day it was too cool to even think about shorts. I saw people outside watching movies wrapped in towels and bath robes. I wore a shirt and sweatshirt on the second sea day. and the same in port. In port I was getting hot and the second sea day I was still cool. In august I'd say it'd probably be ok for shorts all but the day in port. It just depends on how cool you like it.

Hehe, if it's over 49* I wear shorts...... But it's good to know to tell my wife to wear capri's and my obstinate unyeilding stubborn nonlistening impatient 4 year old daughter....... :D

How were the port stops? We leave on the 29th.

Some of the comments she made needed further explanation, I felt I asked a valid question about a comment she made. She explained it, I understood and I moved on, and I'm pretty sure she moved on too.

there was only 1 port stop - st. john's new brunswick. we took a private tour through shore trips. we made it just in time to see the sea caves. in fact, malittlebigfoot's husband was in the 2nd sea cave when the tour guide hollered for him to get out now as the tide was coming in and in minutes that tide made the caves unaccessible. unfortunately, the ship's excursion buses had not even gotten there yet so they missed that experience completely. then they took us to a lighthouse, some miscellaneous stops, the reversing tides, a city tour and dropped us off at the market place almost 5 hours later where we shopped and walked a short walk back to the ship. weather was chilly until the sun came out and then it was pretty nice but take that jacked with you on to land.

I would like to comment on the Chinese things. As a point of reference I have been to China many times and have made some very good friends.

1. Chinese as a group have no patience. Go to an airline in China and when they call the plane there is no line but a mob of people rushing to get on. As soon as dinner is over they leave. Nobody knows how to relax after a meal.

2. There is no tradition of tipping in China. In restaurants tips are not left.

Having said this I have found the Chinese people as a whole the most hard working industrious people I have ever met but jumping on lines does not surprise me at all. Removing tips is awful.

The reviewer wrote her review and should tell it as it is. Just the fact and that is what was done.

Yep, I was the "friend" in line trying to add cash onto the account. And I assure you, the entire line was taking tips off.

The Littlefoots were waiting with me, actually keeping me sane while I waited in that mess. I waited 45 minutes, THEN had to go get the kids out of Camp, only to stand in that line an additional 45 - just so I could add more money on while the rest of the line was taking it off.

When I got up to the crew member I said to him "I don't know how you do it. How cheap would you have to be to remove tips?"

And he said "Maam, it's their money and they can do with it what they want"

And I said " Ohhh I know, you can't call them cheap because you work here, but I can"

And he said "No maam, it's their money"

And I said "Yep, it was their toilet that was scrubbed all week too. Now the person who scrubbed it is getting stiffed"

The couple in front of me asked me if "This was the line to get back their forty bucks?"

And when I got on the elevator from this mess of a line - the dad of a family of 5 says "Look how much we just saved 40, 40, 40, 40 and 40" as he pointed around the elevator to his fam members.

HOW CHEAP!

I am slowly doing my review here. I have the capers scanned already if anyone wants to see them...

What I don't get done I'll be finishing when I get home this evening. My children have been anticipating my company picnic for a long time LOL. Now on with the review...

Sea day continued...

One thing I forgot to mention that happened this day was the sighting of wales and dolphins. I didn't expect to see either since we were going north but was delighted to see them. We saw a few (3-4) whales and 10-20 dolphins on the first sea day. We also saw 20-25 whales and 75 or so dolphins the second sea day. Both happened in the morning and the second dolphin sighting had them in pods of about 6-12. I even sighted a baby one that was 3-4 foot long. I'd post the pics we took of these but the clarity leaves alot to be desired. Here's one of the better ones. Either way it surely excited both DW and I.

Port Day Saint John

This morning we set the alarm to get up at 6 and meet up with 5 others from our roll call that were going on an excursion with us. We booked the fundy coast to fundy bay. I awoke at around 5 as we were pulling into saint john and then quickly realized that our 930am meeting time was actually 830am ship time. OH CRAP!! I contacted the other 2 cabins to make sure they were aware of it and we raced to be at breakfast as soon as it opened. After a filling breakfast we headed for deck 3 to debark. Luckily we were met by an employee who told us it'd start on deck 2 instead. GREAT that's where we are! We were in the first 15-20 off the ship. We were met by Trina and Peter. (BOTH are highly reccomended!!) We seperated into 2 mini vans and were on our way fast. The tide was coming in and we had to hurry to get to St. Martins before the caves were under water and unexplorable. On the way there We stopped a few times for pics.

Our driver and guide even went as far as to allow me to run threw a field for a pic you could NEVER get doing this with carnival's big buses.

Here's an example of one of those experiences that made this trip well worth the $63/pp. And some others were taken from just stopping along the side of the road. It was picture perfect outside and about 60ish degrees.

Right before we got to the caves we saw boats docked out of the water and I made sure to snap a pic to compare the tide.

Thanks so much for the review. We are going next month and this makes it much more exciting (if that's possible). I know someone who was on the same cruise as you and although she loved it, she too said there was a large group of inconsiderate people. But she still had a great time.

My friends and I a conversation the other night about the Chinese

groups on cruises. Last year I cruised the Norwegian Gem, and

there was a large amount of Asians aboard. I don't know if they

were Chinese, Japanese or what. But they were everywhere. They

mobbed the buffet. I didn't notice them in the dining room though.

Pushy, pushy, pushy. One guy hit me in the buffet line because I

accidentally walked in front of a small girl he was taking a picture of.

I assume he didn't speak English, that's why he hit me. But it was

rude.

Creating a new screen name to argue a point is pretty immature. I do not believe a word of your post.

The OP is reporting what she saw and I applaud her honesty. It is what it is. If you don't like it, read post #1 of this thread.

Ever sit at a table in a casino with them?? Ugh!! Ask any dealer, and they'll tell you how English comes back to them when needed.

look - i don't want to chinese bash. i bash equally if truth be told. this is what was on the ship and this was how they behaved. just calling a spade a spade. now if you would really ask my opinion - which no one has - i attribute it to carnival. i believe people behave a little better on royal caribbean and celebrity and princess in general. you get what you pay for. now don't bash me for saying what i think.
