jessica3152 Posted July 2, 2009 #3 Share Posted July 2, 2009 It is Dawn Princess' first cruise but didn't the old Oriana do a couple of world cruises back in the '70s and early '80s? They used to be called Womens' Weekly World Discovery Cruises Brad
Brossy Posted July 2, 2009 #4 Share Posted July 2, 2009 I would love to do a world cruise now but will have to wait till i'm a lot older :D. I hear the average age is about 70 years old.

They used to be called Womens' Weekly World Discovery Cruises Brad Hi Brad, I think those cruises with the old Oriana were from Southampton to Sydney, then she cruised around the Islands from Sydney, then did the return trip back to the UK. I stand to be corrected about that though. (still at school then:eek:) P&O UK still do World cruises every year and you can do segments on them as well. This one is advertised as the first originating from Sydney and returning back to Sydney. Wouldn't it be great to do the whole trip and not have any flying involved.....you could take as much luggage as you liked.:D
staceymrow Posted July 2, 2009 #6 Share Posted July 2, 2009 I will be booking this cruise the day I cash in my super!!! :D:D .....If by then - there is any money left in it - that is!!!!:eek:
Kiwi Kruzer Posted July 2, 2009 Author #7 Share Posted July 2, 2009 I would love to do a world cruise now but will have to wait till i'm a lot older :D. I hear the average age is about 70 years old. It would help to be retired ,and the avg. age on some WC's is 80. I think you will find a younger age on this one, as it is quite an undertaking. Will look forward to hearing from some of the cruisers on board about the age. With lots of sectors on offer, I think the average age will drop down a bit. Gaznjo Posted July 2, 2009 #8 Share Posted July 2, 2009 thats it david, rub it in that we are not going LOL.... I am actually toying with idea of going down and waving her off.... Interesting to note that when shes in Auckland she arrives at noon and sails out again at 8pm

I think she was only 3 or 4 hours late!! LOL
kaseyoz Posted July 2, 2009 #11 Share Posted July 2, 2009 For anyone interested in this cruise or who wants a good read or see some excellent photos, check out this link from the princess boards. They did a world cruise "live" which I tried to keep up with. It is now in the floataway lounge and the thread 296 pages long, It is a really good read. http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=909893&highlight=

I am retired but not DH - he still has to work three days a week to pay for all our cruises and so only has so many days paid holiday a year. As it is he is having to have a week unpaid to fit this long cruise in. I am 62 and he is 60. We plan to spend as much of our children's inheritance as we humanly can before we 'kick our clogs'. We can't wait until 26th August when we set sail.
shining gem Posted July 2, 2009 #13 Share Posted July 2, 2009 Hi David, That is a lovely first post. Love the picture! Grant and I are in our 50s and will be sailing Southampton to Sydney commencing Aug 26th along with Dorset Cruiser and a heap of others who are also well under 70! I suspect this cruise will attract quite a lot of younger sailors and we are looking forward to having a ball! We will be doing a three month trip, all up, as we have a bit of land content before we sail and will be flying out of the country on Aug 3rd. We have sailed the Sydney to US leg on a previous trip. Grant has heaps of leave accrued and I take whatever time I need without pay. We find, if we have a trip planned we are pretty good at saving! We do better if there is something to look forward to! Now that you mention it, I remember looking at the Womens Weekly World Discovery Cruises, way back when and thinking how fantastic that would be. Everything comes to those who wait. We are also taking our best shot at spending our loot before we croak! Don't want to be the wealthiest person in the cemetery! No point to that!
