ENCHANTMENT 5 NIGHT 08-17-09 REVIEW

Pros—Embarkation, seriously a breeze. 20—25 min total

Concierge Lounge—Diego & Baptista, amazing. Charming, efficient & attentive.

MTD—absolutely the best. Mohamed & Maria were two of the best servers we have ever had. Anticipating your questions or needs, super friendly but not sacrificing serving time. Not enough superlatives for these two. MTD worked really well for us.

Windjammer—food and staff were great, friendly & attentive staff.

Room service—fast and friendly

General condition of the ship—Very good.

Bar staff—Very good.

Food—Very good to excellent. Great Indian food each night. (I eat vegetarian.) DH said meat was very good. Then, of course, there is the bread, sigh.

Shops personnel—very friendly

Casino—good news, I won the first night, then not so much.

Cons—Stateroom--We were four in a Junior Suite. A/C barely working the first day. Maintenance came the second day. Tinkered with it & it improved but was never adequate. Six drawers around the vanity were so sticky you had to muscle them open and closed. Worst of all was the balcony door—again so sticky and difficult to open and close, it made accessing our balcony difficult. There is good storage in the cabin except for the drawer problem. Bathroom was nice but four of the five days our toilet did not flush (!) for various lengths of time. Worst was for about three hours. Other parts of the ship affected too. Never any cold water from the tap—warm and warmer.

Cabin steward—Poor. Not certain if she was lazy, over worked or beaten down by the drudgery. No robes in our stateroom when we arrived nor after repeated phone calls and in person requests. Never enough glasses for four people. No ice one day and ran out of soap. And yes, we still tipped her, like I said, I don’t have an explanation for the level of service and I’m not including her name here.

Ports—Key West—went to Mel Fisher museum, KW Art & History Museum and then walked around town. Sloppy Joes—worst Bloody Mary ever (didn’t finish it) and I tried conch fritters for the first time. Yuk, is that how they’re supposed to taste? Place was jammed. Ended up shopping and having a martini at the Roof Top Café. Gorgeous little spot, cool and quiet.

Cozumel—Nachi Cocum—tons of fun here. Questions, ask me.

Belize—Cave tubing. Also fun until the bus broke down. Long story. Ask for details.

Overall—would definitely recommend this cruise. Despite the condition of our cabin and service from cabin steward, the crew is fantastic. Friendly, responsive and efficient. Ship is still beautiful. The positives far outweighed the negatives.

We were in 7166 about 3 weeks ago and had the toilet flushing problem. Others in our group in different cabins on different decks had the same problem. Out room steward implied that the ship had a continuing suction problem.

We used cave tubing dot com. Tour was fun and guide was great until the bus broke down on the way back to the ship. Guide said there would be a replacement in five minutes...it took 20. OK, fine. Then he told us that ALL tenders had been delayed by one hour so we had lots of time to spare. Reason given was an "accident". This seemed somewhat plausible as we had seen an overturned fuel truck in the AM on the way out to the caves. However, none of the tenders were delayed, neither ours nor Carnival's. So, I don't know if he was misguided (pun intended), or trying to avoid a mutiny. Despite some initial groaning, I thought we bus passengers were pretty contained. We made it back with 10 minutes to final tender. Gulp.

Thanks for the review Suzy Q. We are departing this Thrusday on the Enchantment and have 2 quick questions?

1. Did you have to ware your life vest for the muster drill?

2. What type of food was offered at Nachi Cocum and how did you like it?

Thanks,

Allen

Allen,

1. No, you carry them and crew member demonstrates use

2. You order from a menu at Nachi. Mexican food mostly. Chips, salsa, guac, cheese sticks, etc for appetizers. Entrees are anything from traditional enchiladas to hanburgers for the kids. DH had the ribs and said they were great. Yes, all the food was very good.

I was also on this cruise. It was a blast. Ship was in great shape. Service was fantastic all the way around. We didn't have the toilet flushing problem and we were on deck 8 in an inside stateroom in the "new" section.

We walked around Key West. Went to Kermits for chocolate dipped key lime pie on a stick...well worth it. Did the dolphin swim and snorkeling at Chankanaab Park on our own. Belize we did the Bannister Island beach/snorkel/manatee watch through coralbreeze. All great excursions.

Would definitely cruise this ship again!!!

who is the current cruise director on Enchantment?

We were on the 8/13 sailing (4-day) and the cruise director was Rico.

We also had intermittent flushing problems. And I agree, the tap water was 'warm' and 'warmer'. That's the warmest water I've ever had on a ship!
