Krazy Kruizers Posted August 25, 2009 #4 Share Posted August 25, 2009 On some of them you have to spend big bucks just to save a few dollars.

sylteach Posted August 25, 2009 #6 Share Posted August 25, 2009 How much do the coupon books cost? I could use the discount for the spa-but I also heard that they have a raffle there on the first day. Is that true?
Kween Karen Posted August 26, 2009 #7 Share Posted August 26, 2009 Those coupon books really do seem worthless......at least to my cruising style. I have to chuckle when I see them offered as incentives. However.....they are probably worth something to some people or they wouldn't be offered I guess. Yes, Karen, some have commented that the real value of the book is as a coaster under their beverage of choice. Also handy under the short leg of an unsteady table, or a slide-under-the-door tool to prop open a door.
Krazy Kruizers Posted August 26, 2009 #9 Share Posted August 26, 2009 The coupon books were in our cabin when we got on the Westerdam -- ewe did not pay anything for them. For years we have heard of others getting them - don't know how we rated getting them on our last cruise. We are not spa people -- so I can not tell you if there is a raffle on embarkation day or not.

That's how the onine agency touts it. I would describe it as "Valued at $0. Worthless.) Thanks for the listing, Krazy Kruisers.
Krazy Kruizers Posted August 27, 2009 #11 Share Posted August 27, 2009 Still doesn't make sense how we got the coupon book -- we had booked our 21 day cruise for the Westerdan nearly a year in advance -- actually while we were on a similar cruise on that ship. I'm like you on this. I used the same travel agent for several of the HAL bookings. My upcoming cruise in December 2010 is the first that I ever was offered a coupon book. My guess is HAL offers them to travel agents on certain sailing. I will flip and look at them and most likey use it as a coaster.
catl331 Posted August 27, 2009 #13 Share Posted August 27, 2009 If I remember correctly, people were admonished for using them to keep their balcony doors opened when they thought the rooms were too cold!!
heathriel Posted August 27, 2009 #14 Share Posted August 27, 2009 Oh, to have the "too cold" problem on the Ryndam. One can just pile on more blankets, or burn the coupon book for warmth, but you can't do anything when the air conditiong just won't chill your room below 75 degrees :( Here's hoping on the Oosterdam! momatibm Posted August 27, 2009 #15 Share Posted August 27, 2009 There were times that my daughter made coments about the fact that I had multliple quilts, etc -- she thought I was always cold -- she didn't realize I kept the heat set reallllllly low. Now that she is paying for heat == she gets it. Of course, on a ship, as long as the temp is good enough for me to sleep -- who cares. == However, I do prefer colder. Please let me know. I tried using the coupon for buying HAL logo merchandise on line. The discount code was out of date! I was not impressed with any of the other offers. Aunty Pat Posted August 28, 2009 #17 Share Posted August 28, 2009 The “Onboard Coupon Booklets” are delivered to the cabins to anyone who made a booking during a “cruise night” or for a week or 2 thereafter. Store front and on line agencies can hold these “cruise nights” 3 or 4 times a year. I’ve never seen them offered to guests booking directly with Holland America.
