Three big ships in Mykonos could be the problem.

The key is it only takes one port to cause an effect, so you only need 'port congestion' at one location to affect the entire itinerary (including things like travel time) - there are also issues with shipping lanes, tides, etc.

Princess is NOT going to give you the exact reason because they may not have it. If the Harbormaster says change - you change.

As I noted, Princess does NOT want to change itineraries. It costs them money and time. They did not just decide to do this for fun.

I just checked August - and there are several days over 5000 pax, and this one!

19-Aug-15 12883 Norwegian Spirit, Rhapsody Of The Seas, MSC Lirica, MSC Lirica, Costa Deliziosa, Costa Celebration

Holy crap...would not want to be there that day. Can't remember if one or two can dock but that's going to be a lot of tendering.

We were discussing ships in Mykonos.

That's crazy. I know we end up in Istanbul on a Sunday. The bazaar and many other places are closed. Mykonos is a shortened day as well as Kusadasi. I hope more of this does not carry over to the rest of the Med cruises. :(

Yes, it is a disappointment, but with area of the world where there is unrest, etc., it's a hazard you are forced to accept. You have my sympathies.

If you notice, I mentioned that the "unrest" reason for cancellation was on a former cruise with Princess (a few years back). I understand this rationale and am not complaining about it, but merely mentioned I was disappointed. I then commented that we are now disappointed again, because on this cruise, Princess is changing the itinerary due to "port congestion" (???) and now we will be visiting Istanbul on the Sacrifice Holiday when the Grand Bazaar and other attractions will be closed. When the main purpose for choosing this cruise is the port of Istanbul, namely for the visit to the Grand Bazaar, as well as other attractions there, I think you can understand my disappointment. I have been to the Khan Kalili Market in Cairo, Egypt and loved that, and it was on my "bucket list" to visit the "Grand Bazaar" in Istanbul. This is the second attempt to visit the Grand Bazaar in Istanbul, and I am pretty confident there will not be a third opportunity, which is disappointing for me.

The Greece thing could be to do with the economic problems.

Many Government employees have not being paid for a couple of months and those that are being paid are being paid some months in arrears.

The Greek ports are owned by the Government and even if they are being paid their salaries on time, I would guess that there is no overtime pay and no-one is working outside the normal working day.

So if you are not out by 17.30 then your ship will probably be stuck overnight.

Given that I'm not surprised Princess are leaving early. It may be a big issue for the OP that they are not staying until midnight, but looking at the bigger picture, I can't see many folks wanting to get off after dinner for a couple of hours and giving up that is probably better than missing a port altogether.

Check if the Spice Market will be open that day. It is about the same experience as the Grand Bazaar, just smaller.

Thanks to the OP for posting this. I will be in Istanbul during this period and had no idea about this holiday. Not a darn thing I can do about it, but at least I'll be prepared.

As to all those ships in Mykonos on a given day: you have to look at the times they'll actually be there. Some of those ships may be arriving after the others have left. That will be the case for us in Santorini--I thought there were 5 other ships in port with us, but it turns out that two of them are arriving after we depart.
