shuguley Posted July 21, 2015 #1 Share Posted July 21, 2015 (edited) I realize that Regent will do everything they can to accommodate special dining requests if such requests are made in advance. Just wondering if anyone has ever ordered eggs in purgatory? Only had this dish once but thought the eggs were wonderful and that it would be a treat to have them on my next cruise. Kwaj girl Posted July 22, 2015 #2 Share Posted July 22, 2015 I made a request for a truffle omelet made with egg beaters a day in advance. Request graciously honored and WAS IT GOOD! I guess if they have the ingredients and know the recipe it shouldn't be a problem. Cheers!

Travelcat2 Posted July 22, 2015 #4 Share Posted July 22, 2015 I Googled it and found a few variations. It seems to be a bed of tomato sauce/puree with an egg on top and then cheese. If I wanted to pre-order it on the ship I'd be sure to provide a recipe as they may not have heard of it. Here is the Food Network's version of eggs in purgatory: • 1 clove crushed garlic • 2 tablespoons olive oil • 2 cups canned tomato puree • 4 fresh basil leaves, torn into pieces or • 1 pinch dried oregano • salt and pepper • 8 large eggs • 1 tablespoon parmesan cheese or 1 tablespoon romano cheese DIRECTIONS 1. In a medium skillet, cook the garlic in the oil over medium heat for about 2 minutes, or until lightly golden. 2. Add the tomato, basil, and salt and pepper to taste. 3. Bring to a simmer and cook for 15 minutes, or until the sauce is thickened. 4. Break an egg into a small cup. 5. With a spoon, make a well in the tomato sauce. 6. Slide the egg into the sauce. 7. Continue with the remaining eggs. 8. Sprinkle with the cheese. 9. Cover and cook for 3 minutes, or until the eggs are done to your taste. 10. Serve hot. UUNetBill Posted July 23, 2015 #6 Share Posted July 23, 2015 I saw a version of the recipe that had it sitting on a fresh potato pancake - that extra starch would be a boon to the relief of, uh, adult beverage overindulgance...
