Casino Rate Cruises

I do gamble ALOT. BUT last year after our Caribbean Princess cruise both my sister and my mother got offered a FREE cruise. (I did not) They spent a fraction of the time and money I spent. It was legit...

This sort of thing has been reported before, so there appears to be some randomness as to who gets the best offers. I tend to donate generously to shipboard casinos, and have been offered free 3-nighters but only discounts on longer cruises.

Haven't sailed one, but they do have maybe a dozen casino cruises designated for the next year. Even if you don't play much you can get the flyer by selecting "casino" as one of your interests after you log on. We get a LOT of mailings from Princess.

Haven't noticed casino rates on other cruises, but this thread makes we want to look!

We received significant savings on three cruises using this discount but it seems to have disappeared. Don't know if all of the cruises I've been watching have hit capacity for the discount or if we simply aren't eligible any longer.

It's not available on every cruise. I was told by Princess rep that mine was good until Dec. 2016, but a couple of my booked cruises aren't on the list.

Actually I just tried again and did find a casino discount for a cruise next spring. But it is back to the way it was initially. It is only at the point where I selected a specific cabin when the discounted price appeared. For a while there the discounts appeared earlier, but I guess they changed it back again so that you have to go a bit further to see the casino price.

I usually spend $100 - $150 per cruise and I was shocked to have received the casino discount... I used it on my Alaska cruise and booked my Panama Canal cruise with it... Great savings!

I thought my discount had vanished but you have to go to the point of selecting your dining option... then it shows. For every cruise, it's different! I've also had a 10 day cruise to Mexico selected, for $512 per person... and I thought, I need a little time... 15 minutes later, the discount was gone! Lesson learned! If you see something great, put a hold on it!

Is the casino discount really good until the end of December 2016? I can't book anything right now... but, hopefully, soon.

Over and over again! I guess I'll stick with my 4 day cruise in November!

Well that's just phooey! Bumped into the capacity controlled argh.

I just checked some mock bookings and the casino discount is working on cruises into 2017 - so don't give up!

Working to Cruise: Do you mean you lose $100-$150 per cruise or put that much on your card and play off of it?I wonder if they actually track how much you lose or just how much you put on machine to play?

As I said before,I normally don't gamble but would not mind putting $100 on my card and play some of it and stop and cash out if I am not doing good.I am just curious if they would offer me a casino rate on that little gambling.

We cruise Princess usually twice a year and usually West Coast cruises.Wonder if they offer it on the Coastal or Mexico?

In my experience, casinos - including cruise ships - only track what you "Buy In" with. They figure their take as a percent thereof. Much harder to figure out what you "lose" overall since there are so many variables.

We got casino rate (had to rebook since it came out mid stream) on our upcoming West Coast Getaways - saved nearly a grand on a Premium Balcony. It's on all cruises and is capacity controlled. The discount percentage is less on Alaska, Europe and Japan.

Princess rep told me there are cruises where it's not applied. I have a couple of them. It's not a matter of capacity control in this case.

Thanks! I was wondering if I book in 2016... Will it still be available? I'll probably be able to book another one before the end of the year while onboard the Star... but I could possibly be able to book a few for 2016/17.

Diane, that's my gambling budget... that's what I put in... Yes, it's offered on Coastals and Mexico, but that discount isn't offered to everyone.

Time to show my ignorance!! I am platinum, but have never heard of "casino cruises" before this thread. I love the casino, and am in there everyday. Never knew of such a thing. Can someone give me a readers digest version on how you can tell if a cruise is a casino cruise, and how you get the mailers?

I posted earlier, it is here somewhere...we used the casino to "spend" our non-refundable OBC, something like $80 on one cruise and $50 on a second cruise. Lost a total of $5 and got the casino credit. We booked Panama, Hawaii, 2 coastals and 1 Mexico...all with the casino rate.:D

Maybe people could start posting the cruises they run across that have the casino rate. That way if some on is interested they see if they get it. The treasure hunt is fun.. but it would be nice to know where it shows up.

I just looked at 6 day January 22 2017 on the Caribbean. I picked an Aft Balcony on Caribe deck and the price went from $899 to $674.

I also looked at 10 day Royal January 2016 but the price did not drop.

This isn't something you can sign up for, sorry. If you qualified, the only way you'd find out is by doing mock bookings.... the fare would drop by the time you select your dining time. Also, not everyone is selected for this offer. It's the luck of the draw. Most of everyone who has received the casino discount were sent an email by Princess.

There seems to be no rhyme or reason for qualifying for the casino rate. We received an email notification. Played a short time in the casino like I aways do. Gambled no more than usual. I'm thinking this is something new to encourage passengers to gamble?

I think more than likely this is a way for Princess to quietly discount a certain percent of bookings and fill cabins without affecting the current advertised Princess rates.

Just another strategy to keep the advertised Princess rates intacted as long as possible without discounting the entire sailing, your additional casino play if any is just a bonus for Princess

Not sure how long they have been offering the rates. I first noticed a year or so ago. The cruise lines are not really giving anything away. I'm sure they know exactly how much the average person on their casino list wagers (and generally loses) in order to make the discounts "pay off" for them.

We never received an email but I noticed the odd pricing this spring and posted here about it. A Princess rep confirmed that it was the casino discount that we were receiving. This was right after the deals started to appear and she indicated that they were going fast and were no longer available on some cruises.

We've gotten free gratuities on two cruises in addition to the discounts, and on a third cruise just got the discounts because free gratuities were already part of promotion we booked under.

I've attached the breakdown of the discounts that someone was kind enough to post earlier this year.

My casino rates disappeared a couple of weeks ago.

I just checked the cruises that I have already booked (all with the casino rate) and 2 of them have the casino rate again. One is less than I paid and one is a little bit more BUT with the "3 for free" sale.

I am going to see if I can cancel and rebook:D:D

Our experience with this is...I played in only one slot tour on our last cruise. I was notified by email that we had casino discounts until Dec of this year for select 9 to 15 day cruises. We booked for 2016 and got half off of our fare because there was a presidents days sale on and we used our discount.

This weekend, we decided to look at 2017 specials and see if we could get the same sort of deal with the current 3 for 1 special. We did and booked for 200 down, got a upgrade closer to the center for the aft price and 25 percent off as well as free gratuities. Its a great deal. Our next two cruises are half the price we paid on the last few.

If you can get the casino discount and combine it with a sale the savings are amazing. I'll have to remember to go do the slot tournament on the next cruise as well!

7 Day Eastern on the Regal. November 27 2016, we got the casino rate and an excellent rate it was too! $1400 Canadian ($1100 USD appx) for an inside cabin for two. Excellent price. The non-casino rate is about $2100 Canadian ($1600 USD appx). We weren't looking for a cruise for next fall but when we stumbled on to this price, not putting down a measly $200 to hold that price seemed foolhardy.
