pjs9876 Posted September 17, 2010 #1 Share Posted September 17, 2010 When you renew a passport-Do you keep the same number? I need to complete paperwork with my passport number (time is not an issue here) but do I need to wait to finish the paperwork until after the new passport comes back? LRDR01 Posted September 17, 2010 #4 Share Posted September 17, 2010 Your old passport will be expired, as will the passport number. Your old passport will be returned with holes punched thru the photo page and Cancelled stamped on it. Thus, the Passport Agency will issue you a new passport with new photos (that you supply) and a new passport number. Hope this helps.

I guess we do change in all the years we have our passports so a new photos will be required. :p
Krazy Kruizers Posted September 17, 2010 #6 Share Posted September 17, 2010 I have never heard of anyone getting the same passport number whenever they renewed. Yup -- the old ones will be returned to you with holes punched in it so that you (and anyone else) can not use it anymore. So you will have to wait to fill out that part of your cruise paperwork. lcmslady Posted September 17, 2010 #7 Share Posted September 17, 2010 Just got my new passport with new numbers and the old one back with the holes punched in it. What do you all do with the old one?? I can't figure out why they even send it back since it's no good.

mikewrit Posted September 17, 2010 #9 Share Posted September 17, 2010 Now and then I page through my old one. The stamps from various places spark entertaining recollection. I do regret that the old visa pages cannot be inserted in the new passport with impunity.
sail7seas Posted September 17, 2010 #10 Share Posted September 17, 2010 You didn't mention from which country your passport is issued? If you mean U.S., then the answers above are correct. I don't know about other countries.
Mary Ellen Posted September 17, 2010 #11 Share Posted September 17, 2010 In addition to the new passport number others have mentioned, you'll have a new expiration date. When we check-in on-line for our cruises, we're also asked for the expiration date.
