Correct, you must have the special cup to use the Freestyle machine. The embedded chip enables them to limit how often you can refill the cup and also disable that cup after your cruise is over.

If you are asking about Freedom, there are machines on the Royal Promenade (near Sorrento's), Windjammer, and the arcade.
