Princess Grill seating?

Hi everyone,

We (couple) have booked Princess Grill for the first time (we have always gone Britannia before). We usually book a table for 8 as we enjoy meeting new people. However, what do you recommend in Princess Grill? With it being open sitting, is it likely that people on the table will arrive at different stages in the meal? Is it better to request a table for two?

Hope this makes sense.

Ben.

We always ask for (and get) a table for 2, and this size seems to predominate in PG. There are larger tables (I can only recall a maximum of 6, but there could be larger), and indeed people turn up at different stages, but this doesn't seem to bother anybody. Whether you would prefer a table for 2 is up to you, I guess.

It makes perfect sense, until our last trip we have always had a table for 2 in the Grills and for 6 in Britannia.

This time we mostly ended up as a table of 4 as 2 of companions liked to eat early so they were usually having coffee when we arrived.

We had the occasional breakfast and lunch as a six.

It was all fine.

I'm confused - should I infer that this time you had a table for 6 in PG?

I was recently on a table in PG on QV and there were 9 of us. Everyone seemed to have a routine, the older ladies at the table ate early and were usually on desert by the time the rest of the table arrived. It was nice as we would have a bit of a chat before they would move onto a show, a couple of nights we organised to meet and eat as a group - especially those nights that Raul had organised a special off menu meal for us all.

Worked out really well and I wouldn't have a hesitation to book a larger table again. I think I struck it lucky with such a great group. There does seem to be an abundance of tables for two in the restaurant so there shouldn't be a problem if you want a smaller table, though Im sure they could organise to move you to a larger table once underway.

A word of warning though...PG can be addictive......

There are only a few larger tables in PG. The vast majority of tables are for 2 people, which is our preference, but this is just us. We spoke with others who were at larger tables and they were very happy. Diners arrived at various times. It's a very nice dining room with very good service.

I always request a table for 8 in the PG and dinner time was usually decided by consensus. If you don't want to be tied to a dining time determined by others then ask for a table for 2. The refit reconfigured the room to include more tables for 2 as they are in high demand.

We were at a table for 6 in PG. Four of us were early eaters and the other two preferred to eat later. They asked to be moved, either to a table of late eaters or a 2-top because they didn't like being left to finish their meal alone. Another couple, also early eaters, were moved to our table. So we generally arrived within 15 minutes of each other and left pretty much at the same time.

We've been at tables where people were on very different schedules and it was OK, but it is nicer when we're all in sync.

If we are booked in the PG, presumably we have dinner there. Are there choices where to eat for breakfast and lunch. We like to eat outside for these meals if the weather is fine and prefer buffets for both.

Plenty of choices for breakfast including room service but lunch in the courtyard on a fine day is unbeatable. The only buffet though, apart form the occasional special event buffet will be in the lido.

Have a great trip...

The Courtyard is only available on Queen Victoria and Elizabeth.

Thanks. We will be on the Queen Elizabeth. Neither the brochure or the website make it clear where we can have breakfast and lunch.

In the Princess Grill restaurant, or outside in the Courtyard if the weather is good enough. At the buffet (the Lido) there is some outside seating either side or room service on your balcony.

Generally a table for 6 was the max we saw. The only issues that arise are that not all members will always arrive at the same time(same is true in Britannia). Some may be late from excursions, the spa etc. It's always courteous of tablemates to inform the others if they will run late. That way it helps smooth out delays in eating, especially the more rushed meals in Britannia. This is one of the reasons we only do tables for 2. There's plenty of closeness to chat with your neighbors.

You may choose to dine in Britannia as well(but why would you?)We did do this a few times when a friend did Britannia & we did The Grills, other than that we preferred the choices in the Grills.

Presumably one can choose any restaurant onboard for breakfast, lunch and even dinner. If so, do you have to pay for those with charges?

Only QG pax can dine in the QG. Same for PG. In these restaurants, you have your own table for the duration, but not necessarliy the same chair.

Anyone can have breakfast or lunch in the Lido, Kings Court, Carinthia Lounge, or Britannia, but in the Verandah there is a cover charge. In the evening, in the dining rooms you revert to your assigned table.
