LuckiePuris Posted June 1, 2015 #1 Share Posted June 1, 2015 Hi there, We will be traveling with a 1.5 year old as part of our group. Not my child and don't know a lot about kid eating habits but am assuming a 1.5 year old would be dining on pretty basic fare. Would the 1.5 year old still need to pay for specialty restaurant cover charge? Do specialty restaurants has any kids menus? We will be cruising on Explorer. This is the first cruise with a baby in our extended family, so all very new to us. Not complaining if there is a charge for the little one, it is what it is. But thought it would be worth asking the question. Thanks!
Rare LMaxwell Posted June 1, 2015 #2 Share Posted June 1, 2015 No you will not be charged for a child under 2 years old. Two different kids menus exist Standard ship wide "kids" menu (chicken fingers, pizza, etc) no charge anywhere Kids specialty menu - smaller portions/selection than full menu; kids charged half price (I believe this is for age 3 and up, or age 5 and up, not 100% sure). Bottom line: You will be charged a cover for a child under 2 years old.

The Grumpus Posted June 1, 2015 #4 Share Posted June 1, 2015 Direct from Royal Caribbean website Q&A section: Food & Beverage Q: Are children allowed to dine in our Specialty Restaurants? A: Children younger than 13 must be accompanied by an adult. Plus, kids ages 6-12 now dine at our specialty restaurants for only $8, and kids 5 and under eat free! Little sailors get their very own menu – a round-up of kid-friendly favorites from the "grownups" menu. Reservations can be made online or onboard at the restaurant based on availability. Hope that helps.:)

Merion_Mom Posted June 2, 2015 #6 Share Posted June 2, 2015 But it is my opinion, shared by millions of other people, that it is torture to expect a one and a half year old to sit still and behave for 2+ hours in a specialty restaurant. Some ships have a nursery. All ships offer in-cabin babysitting.

razorkd Posted July 8, 2015 #8 Share Posted July 8, 2015 For the $8 kid's price do they have to eat off the "Little Sailor's menu" or can they choose from the adult menu?
Ourusualbeach Posted July 8, 2015 #9 Share Posted July 8, 2015 For the $8 kid's price do they have to eat off the "Little Sailor's menu" or can they choose from the adult menu? If they eat off the adult menu regardless of age they will be chaged the full price.
roseshayit Posted July 8, 2015 #10 Share Posted July 8, 2015 It is torture, we just cruised with a 15m old and we were lucky if she made it an hour for dinner. No nursery on explorer. This was us and we were "those" parents with our friends who to a lesser extent were also those parents with their young toddler. At least in MDR our LO is a paying customer. ;)
