Points earned for pre-cruise purchases?

I have heard that you gain loyalty points for things you purchase onboard (excursions, drink packages, etc), is this true?

What about packages and excursions pre-paid for previous to sailing? Do you get points for that as well?

Or do I have this all mixed up?

Yes it's true but not for pre paid.

Ok now I found the official answer! Thanks for your input!

Each time you cruise with MSC Cruises you’ll earn more points to upgrade your membership level. You can collect points easily, quickly and in multiple ways.

The upgrade of your membership level is based on:

1) EXPERIENCE PURCHASED

EXPERIENCE

Cruise under

6 days - 5 nights

Cruises from

6 to 10 days -

5 to 9 nights

Cruises of more than

10 days - 9 nights

Bella 200 points 500 points 700 points

Fantastica 400 points 700 points 1000 points

Wellness 600 points 1000 points 1500 points

Aurea 600 points 1000 points 1500 points

MSC Yacht Club 800 points 1500 points 2000 points

2) PRE-PAID ON BOARD SERVICES: MSC Voyagers Club members will earn 100 points every $150 of pre-paid expenses made before the cruise on MSC packages and services included in the cruise booked*.

3) ONBOARD EXPENSES: You will earn 100 points for every $150 spent on board (excluding casino expenses). Assigned points for onboard expenses (including pre-boarding purchased shipboard credit) will only be applied to the MSC Voyagers Club Card holder making the final payment.

*For currencies other than € euro, the currency conversion on purchase day will apply.

It's a relatively new addition, along with the "Experiences" categories of cabins, Suzyed, hence the conflicting answers. Also, before the "Voyagers Club" was introduced in July 2015, 1 point was awarded for every night spent aboard, regardless of cabin booked or length of cruise - e.g. 7 points for 7 night cruise, 21 points for 21 night one. For onboard spend, 1 point was awarded for every €/$200 but none for prepaid items. So, as you can see, MSC gave with one hand and took with the other!

The most irritating of the changes for me is the conversion of 1 point to 100 points. I think the Italians are missing the Lira, somehow, and felt they had to add on zeros in places where they can LOL! The original system was so much easier to keep track of. I still refer to my accumulated points without the extra 2 zeros at the end
