Casino/OBC

My TA is giving us $1000 OBC. . She says to get the cash we need to get it at the casino. . Has anybody ever heard of this? . I never have?

Not sure I understand? You want cash instead of OBC? You can "charge back" US dollars onto your OBC account from the casino cashier.. however they do take a 5% fee. So for every $100 in US they take $5. (At least that is what they used to take). And you can only take out $500 per day. But, in answer to your question, yes, you can get US dollars from the casino cashier and charge it against your OBC. You need to be in International waters for the casino cashier or casino to be open to accomplish this.

If your TA uses cash money to buy you an OBC it will come to you as a refundable shipboard credit, which, if you haven't used it by the end of your cruise will be refunded to you in cash on the last day.

There was a time when such credits could be accessed gratis during the cruise by drawing dollars against ones' shipboard account at the window in the Casino as if one intended to gamble, and then, well, simply not playing.

As a result, cash draws in the Casino are now subject to a 3% fee.

3% is for US dollars only, in the Casino, the 5% fee kicks in if you want the currency of the region where the ship is sailing.

Thanks for the reply. I am still confused as to why my TA thinks this is the only way to get it?

As long as it's refundable OBC you can get it from Guest Relations on the next to last day of the cruise with no fee. Of course you won't have the benefit of using it on the trip. You could take your own money and gamble with it, knowing that it would be replaced if you lost it with your OBC at the end of the trip.

I really am not interested in gambling. . I was just confuses as to why she thinks I have to go to casino to get it. This is a new TA for us. I have sent her an email to try and help me understand why this would be the only way to get this money. The other way is a check after the cruise.

Actually all of the TAs' we've dealt with provide the check with the final documents or at least a week before we depart. And, they provide a check for a minimum of the cruise fare. That way we could decide how to spend that money and not have to go thru the rigamarole on board and if we want to gamble, we cash the check and bring however much we want with us in cash.

The big question is the OBC refundable or non refundable?

That will determine if you can get cash from Reception or the casino if you choose to withdraw it

Not all OBC's are created equal

So..my ? is if the OBC credit is non refundable, are you able to use it to withdraw cash at the casino (with a 5% charge). I seem to think you can not from my memory of prior threads on the subject, but hopefully it can be done.

Thanks

No, only refundable OBC may be withdrawn as cash, fee or no fee.

That is why I stipulated that the Agent would have needed to purchase the OBC with cash for it to be used in the Casino.

Promotional dollars may only be spent, not withdrawn.

Stan and Jim or anyone else ( Hey S&J, btw)

Is there any way to control which OBC's get used first? I guess if the refundable portion may be withdrawn as cash towards the end of cruise, then it makes sense to get the promotional portion used first.

I think they use the non refundable credits first

then if you still owe $ then it comes off the refundable OBC

On the card you receive in your cabin it states it cannot be used for the casino

To me that means you cannot get cash ...I could be wrong ;)

Hey Tom-

I've Been vicariously enjoying the photo's from the Riviera Maiden that you've been posting-

Happy times

LHT is correct, non refundable onboard credit automatically gets used first.

BTW, I've been meaning to ask you to tell Heidi that she must have friends in some very high places. The "new decor"in the Owners Suites on the R ships looks as if she placed the order personally!
