Cool Cruiser

Cool Cruiser (2/15)

  1. Have been on nearly 50 cruises on 6 different cruise lines. Only time encountered Noro Virus was on an Oceania cruise. IMHO the staff served system on Oceania creates crowds at the Terrace Cafe and create the facade if a more overall sanitary environment without the reality. Waiting in a crowd at the dessert area of the Terrace on Vista with folks barking instructions to servers and breathing all over each other seems a lot less sanitary (and less pleasant) than serving plated desserts to myself in an uncrowded, relaxed atmosphere on Regent Splendor. I experienced both in the last two months.
  2. Thanks, thought of that, but Delta is only airline that flies both routes without crazy connections on at least one of them and their system will not accept a multi city fare for those routes.
  3. I live on Long Island and loads of miles on United. Thought of booking United for cruise from Rio in 2025, but found that they only seem to fly to South America via Houston which adds a connection and about 4 hours of extra flying. Will do nonstop on AA!
  4. Booked Splendor March of 2025 Rio to Lisbon. Regent Air allowance is $4300 pp. Live near JFK, so when Business Class NS JFK to RIO became available for just $2100 pp, I booked it paying just $100 per person extra to make it refundable. I am finding, however, that the LIS to New York fares for March are extremely high unless I book TAP (about $2100 pp) which has an iffy reputation. Questions: 1. How does Regent calculate the portion of air allowance for return home if you choose to do the outbound portion of air on your own? Do they give me air credit for half the $4300 which is $2150 and then book the return portion under their portion? 2. Does anyone know if Regent is likely to put us on TAP under a contract they may have with that airline. (Airfares for Delta and United are $4000 or more one way.) Thanks for any advice. Ed
  5. And after completing your walk down the donkey path and get back to the ship, plan a trip to the gym to grab a bunch of lysol wipes to clean up your shoes😁
  6. I had heard that 17 day drydocks/refurbishing time was built into both Mariner and Voyager schedules for late 2025. However, when I look at schedules for both ships, neither of them appear to have a gap in their schedules for fourth quarter of 2025 or even early 2026. Does anyone know if ships these are still scheduled for major refurbushings and, if so, when?
  7. Zero ships, big or little can dock in the Falkand Islands. It is a tender port, period. Also, it is more than just rumor, all of the Oceania ships have been overhauled in a major way within the last 4 years or so. Last is Marina, which is undergoing its overhaul at the moment.
  8. Thanks for your review! Oceania, Regent and Celebrity are our "go to" cruise lines. We did an Oceania Vista cruise immediately followed by an Ascent Caribbean cruise in February. We liked them both. Then a few weeks later we enjoyed a transatlantic on Regent Splendor. This summer we are looking forward to an Oceania Marina Norway/Iceland/Greenland cruise then a Celebrity Apex transatlantic in October. We realize that each of these cruise lines have their strengths, as well as aspects which are less to our liking, but are thankful we are able to enjoy them all!
  9. I have booked two cruises with included pre cruise hotel stays and tours. I have Marriott Titanium status and am wondering whether my benefits like included breakfast, early check in and executive lounge access are recognized when staying in a Marriott Hotel booked under a Regent group category. Thanks for any advice/experience on this.
  10. I know. Memo recently issued to staff says 4 wifis for Silver, according to guest relations staff on Splendor. But do you really expect Regent to keep a well updated website?🤔
  11. I was with IT person who helped us with initial sign in and she had no idea why there was no charge for 2nd wifi for our F2 cabin. Had some IT issues later in the cruise when IT person was off duty and reception desk helped me. He told me a memo to staff had recently been issued saying that Silver gets 4 wifis. BTW the internet on Splendor during our transatlantic was not great...hopefully my last cruise without Starlink as there was a team installing Starlink on the cruise, but it will not be active on Splendor until July or August...do not know reason for the delay.
  12. Now Silver also gets 4 wifis. We were pleasantly surprised on our March 31 cruise to learn of this.
  13. Have not been in that cabin, but encourage you to go on the cruise with a positive attitude. Would not bring a white noise machine when you can download and use white noise app on your phone. You may be lucky and have quiet neighbors. We spent 27 nights on Vista...two different cruises, had some difficulty with neighboring tvs. Will likely avoid Vista in the future, but I encourage you to think positive and use white noise apps and open your balcony door and use the ocean to add white noise.
  14. As I u derstand it,Vista and Regent's new Regent Grandeur were recently built in the same shipyard...different than Marina and Riviera..different design and 10 plus years later. Both Vista and Grandeur have reports of poor sound proofing between cabins. I have cruised on Riviera and Marina multiple times with no sound issues between cabins. Two long cruises on Vista in two different cabins and experienced the issue in a problematic way. Was told by staff on Vista that the problem is pervasive on that ship..no matter what deck and cabin you are in. Was considering cruising on Regent Grandeur but will change my plans based on reports from that new ship. NCLH has a problem they are supposedly addressing...not sure how they will do it.
  15. Vista is far from a sweet spot for me. TV and conversation noise from adjacent cabins disturbed my sleep for a total of 27 nights on two separate cruises. It is a major design issue I hope they fix on Allura.
