  1. Overcast and occasionally rainy Saturday in Sydney today. Perfect day for doing indoor activities in the city. Started off with re-visiting Van Gogh Live. It’s returned to Sydney and is being held in a larger venue this time round. You have various photos ops available. I went with the have your photo taken in a Van Gogh Painting: There also a room full of sunflowers and a room full of mirrors. The onsite “French” cafe did a nice lunch. Then it was onto the main event, where Van Gogh’s life, diary entries and paintings are projected onto the walls and floors of the exhibition hall. Photos don’t do it justice but enjoyed the experience just as much the second time around.
  2. @dani negreanu So much choice in appliances these days. Can appreciate all the research. Hope you share some photos of the dishes you and DH make with your Anniversary gifts going forward. Congratulations in advance to you both for your 50th Wedding Anniversary.
  3. Good morning, cold temps & heavy rain here today. Doonas back on beds last night. Not complaining though, it was warm & sunny when it mattered over Christmas & New Year and the gardens definitely need a good soak. Have a good day everyone.
  4. A few photos from a gorgeous public holiday Monday in Sydney today. Our wet dog in action at a harbourside park/beach in Mosman this morning (dogs permitted before 9am and after 4pm) Followed by brunch with DD. After three attempts, we finally found a cafe open today. French toast with seasonal fruit. Visited Dad in the the early afternoon. His veggie patch yielding zucchini, cucumber and strawberries. Came home with large zucchini’s and more cucumbers. Late afternoon walk, the suburbs are a sea of purple right now. Hope you all have a nice day.
  5. Watched the original Avatar last night. Haven’t seen it since we saw it on release at the cinema. I wanted to re-watch because I plan to see the sequel. Enjoyed the original just as much the second time around. I know the sequel is getting mixed reviews but I just plan to go and enjoy the visuals which are apparently stunning.
  6. @Sunshine3601 I had to look up the mummers parade. Here in Australia, mom is spelt mum, so I immediately had visions of a large group of mums dancing and parading along the streets (which sounds like a great idea to me) 🤣 Google search filled me in on the mummers parade. On a side note - has anyone donated to Wiki? Their pleas are getting more desperate.
  7. Didn’t get out of bed til midday today. Haven’t done that since I was a teen. My feet have blisters from speed walking 2km in heels last night from the Opera House to Town Hall (2km). Should have listened to DH and worn sneakers…plenty of smart women dressed up at the Opera House but wearing nice white sneakers last night for all the walking required due to all the street closures…. Nice sunny day here today with a bit of a breeze. Had a lane to myself at the pool in the afternoon, no doubt due to lots of people nursing hangovers and their New Year’s resolutions will start tomorrow. DD was home with Max last night. Thankfully the 9pm fireworks locally were much shorter than usual so he coped ok this year.
  8. If you have an opportunity to do this in the future, can recommend it.
  9. Happy New Year. Here’s to a year of good health and pleasurable cruising. Amadeus in the Concert Hall at the Opera House last night & the midnight fireworks
  10. Midnight fireworks. My photos don’t do them justice. They were spectacular. Off the bridge, between the bridge and the Opera House, above the Opera House and to the right of the Opera House. You just don’t know where to look.
  11. Amadeus finished at 11pm. The cast got rapturous applause (photos in previous post). We then had an hour til the midnight fireworks. This time I was further back from the railing on the balcony so DH decided to scope out another spot. Meanwhile, 4 young German glamazons who must have been 6’4’ each, squeezed in front of me. So, I gladly agreed to move when DH returned.
  12. Whilst I was at the railing with my $18aud small glass of Chardonnay, DH was watching the last 10mins of the performance. When he got to the bar at intermission, the eftpos machine was down so they didn’t charge him for the maltesers and soft drink.
  13. Good morning and Happy New Year to everyone from Sydney, Australia. For New Year’s Eve, DH took me to the Sydney Opera House to see Michael Sheen perform in Amadeus. First photo is a promo photo from the OH official page. At intermission, we could go out on the balcony and watch the 9pm fireworks. View of the bridge and illuminated boats before the 9pm fireworks commenced. The 9pm fireworks are the family fireworks display so shorter and less elaborate than the midnight ones We were seated on the aisle so it was easy for me to quietly sneak out 10mins before intermission and get a spot at the railing for an excellent view (sorry the photos are a not the best).
  14. Any one watch the Knives Out sequel? - Knives Out Glass Onion. Thoroughly enjoyed the original film but I thought the sequel was slow to get going, then it was watchable but then forgettable. Whereas the original I would happily watch again.
  15. We recently cruised 7 days on Carnival Luminosa. I was very nervous about getting Covid on board - to the point of considering cancelling (purely because I didn’t want us to have to isolate in our cabins). We wore mask’s & used sanitizer but otherwise cruised per normal. We disembarked on the 11th Dec and neither of us had symptoms on board or since.
