  1. You just hop on a bus right outside baggage claim to go to the LAX-It lot for Uber and Lyft. Call while on the bus and your ride is there when you arrive or within a few minutes. Easy-peasy. Well marked for both Lyft and Uber. For some reason I find Lyft cheaper from LAX>
  2. I tip $1 or $2 for both diamond drinks and free drinks in the casino. Sometimes in the casino I tip more if busy and that seems to assure they come back.
  3. Passenger falls and breaks an ankle, requiring surgery and cannot return to the ship; the companion opts to also not return. The cruise line will incur a fine of $1,524 for the two passengers because they never went to the foreign port -- they were simply transported between two U.S. ports -- Cape Liberty and Bar Harbor. It is up to the cruise line whether the charges will be passed along to the passengers via their onboard accounts. In many cases, the cruise line can apply for and often receive a waiver from CBP for medical emergencies that require disembarkation, so it is advisable to notify the ship of an emergency in port that prevents you from returning. Be prepared to provide documentation that it is a true emergency. It may mean the difference between the fine being passed along or not. Above is from a Cruise Critic article in 2020. The line has the right to pass the cost on to the passenger.. It is currently $798 per person per government website, so not sure why the $143 difference. There may also be an issue as to whether the medical emergency of one person required the disembarkation of the second. But certainly it can take weeks, if not months, for a ship to be able to process a waiver/exemption request. From gov website: The Passenger Vessel Services Act September 2019 17 U.S. Customs and Border Protection Penalty * $300 for each passenger transported and landed on or before November 2, 2015. * $798 for each passenger transported and landed after November 2, 2015. * Issued to the vessel operator or carrier not the passenger. CBP does not have the authority to settle charge disputes between carriers that may have been issued penalties and their passengers The PVSA is very detailed as to the process for "mitigation" and how it is filed and that is is ruled on as they are received. We all know how quickly things are processed by many government agencies, so I would expect you would need to allow at least 6 months,
  4. September 26, 2005 CA Author #596 Posted yesterday at 10:57 AM So we made it to the city of Avalon, the primary town on the island. The island is about 25 miles long, but other than the main town of Avalon, the rest is barely inhabited. As far as I know of the major North American cruise itineraries, this is the only cruise stop that involves a US island. Key West, Puerto Rico, St. Thomas, and St. John are all US islands visited by Royal, also at least 4 of the Hawaiian Islands.
  5. Funny, obviously everyone is different. Caribbean is my favorite, with Mexican second. Not a fan of Italian, although I love Giovannis
  6. I am always one of the first out. I don't want to make an event out of a meal. Let me eat and get on with the fun, whether a show, a bar, music, or casino!
  7. Agree 100%!!!!! I put that comment on the top of my review every time I return from Allure and tell Royal that she is my favorite ship!
  8. I sure wish they would leave the diamond lounge alone and not add those hideous slides. It's terrible to move it to the dungeon with no windows. Ugh. Allure is my favorite ship right now.
  9. None of this would bother me since I normally close the casino around 3 or 4 a.m., lol
  10. And I always look carefully at what is directly above and below me, not just what is around me on same deck.
  11. Looks like the gelato that was always for sale next to Sorrento's on Allure.
  12. I always print out my cruise receipt because it shows my freeplay from the casino. Once they said I did not have any and because I could show them the copy with my $500 on it I received the FP. That was a valuable little sheet of paper.
  13. Yes, some are turning it into an annoying business. I have actually left the casino during them because they crowd around and bump into your seat if you happen to be near the event. Easier to just come back later. As for the points, I try for 4000 a cruise to get a decent cabin for my next one. Sometimes I only make it to 3000 and occasionally I get 6500 on my budgeted money. So I prefer to keep my points. I also have certain machines I like to play and they are not the ones they use for the slot pulls generally. I do wish they would post the times and locations of them somewhere though for those who like to avoid them.
  14. I always take hard copies of everything with me. To me it is easier to put phone away and have my passport and seapass info in one hand and my other for my small luggage which I always carry on. So glad they are enforcing the times for arrival/boarding!!! It is so much easier when people are spread out. I always get the earliest time, but I stay on the computer the night you can check in and do it right at midnight. Why should those who don't bother be allowed to just arrive and make our time slot more crowded? The new procedure works well as long as people adhere to their scheduled time.
  15. Which is why I never do them! I find it boring and when I put my money in I want my card in
  16. Thanks, guess I never noticed because that is how I prefer it.. Had the one by closet on Allure once and now I always ask on Oasis class
  17. Let me answer it this way: There is nothing to keep sexual predators from cruising. Just something to consider.
  18. where are they on Voyager class? I guess I never paid any attention to where my bed was, lol
  19. I sailed in late May with a passport expiring in October. But I was going to ports that only require a current passport or one with 90 days on it. I actually printed out the State Department information on each port and took it with me. But no one at check in gave it a second look. I did also take my drivers license, global entry card, and birth certificate. All unneeded, but it made me feel better. As soon as I got back I had it ready to mail in to renew in early June and got it back in 5 weeks!!! Ready for my September cruise. I don't do summers unless a trans Atlantic due to the large number of children/families.
  20. Love solo cruising and I am also allergic to kids, lol. The solarium, bars, and casino are my havens.
  21. I mailed mine on June 3. It arrived June 6. It showed in process until July 7 when it said approved and being sent to print. I got it in the mail on July 13. I paid for expedited but not express mail.
  22. If you never went to any location where people have been killed, you would not have much of anywhere to go, lolol. Personally, I'd prefer to die from a gunshot than cancer. I'm not living life in fear. I was in Uganda when there was a no travel warning, also in Panama when Noreiga was taken out. Went to Peru during a major cholera outbreak in the 90's. Wonderful memories from every trip. And I was on the second cruise on Royal after the 2021 restart. Life is for living.
  23. Unsold blocks released by travel agencies. Usually about 30 days out. This is when I check to change rooms from my casino comp rooms as sometimes they are great locations and as long as in category I have there is no charge.
