  1. On the pool deck you can find shade underneath the next deck up. The deck above the pool does not have shade options in the area around the pool. You could get a more specific answer if you say which ship you are asking about.
  2. I know another poster here is saying that RU bids are canceled when a GTY is assigned, but there have been people posting here in the past to say that their RU bid was accepted and was actually a downgrade because they had upgraded on their own but didn't cancel their bids. So it is a good thing you canceled right away, if they had switched you out of the 2 BD GS there would be no way to get it back. That said, it's odd they gave you the 2 BR suite for a GTY booking, you would think they would sell that 2 BR suite through RU to someone who had already booked a smaller suite, then give you that person's suite. they left money on the table.
  3. Their question is regarding the time it takes to depart the ship if they are travelling with a birth certificate instead of a passport. In ports that use facial recognition it is very fast to disembark if you boarded with a passport, but those with a birth certificate can't use facial recognition, they need to wait in line and talk to a customs agent, and those lines can get very long.
  4. D+ drinks: The drinks are loaded on your SeaPass card account. When you buy a drink they will scan your card and see that you have Diamond drinks available. Some bartenders will ask if you want to use a Diamond drink, others will just use one of your free drinks unless you tell them not to. If you are ordering something lower-priced, such as a beer or bottle of water, you can tell the bartender not to use your Diamond drinks so you can save them for more expensive drinks. The 5 drinks expire at the end of the day, use them or lose them.
  5. Your ship from 17 years ago will probably fit in the basement of your new ship.
  6. Another UPDATE: Another passenger who was bumped from the same cruise posted on Reddit. This person noted they had spoken with the OP at the port, then added: ...they gave us the news about not having room even tho we had guarantee staterooms (?). We ended up getting a full refund + a free cruise and 2 deluxe drink packages for our next cruise for however long we go. still pretty shitty tho i still don’t understand how they let half of me and my gfs family on but not her and i
  7. UPDATE: The OP has provided an update and probable resolution. The OP is a first-time cruiser. (Great first impression, right?) He was sounding depressed and resigned to a bad outcome, saying he didn't think he had any leverage at this point since he's sitting on the dock and the ship is gone. But maybe the whiff of some bad publicity helped. First he contacted RC via Twitter/X. He received back the following useless reply: “We're truly sorry for any disappointment this situation has caused. You're welcome to choose from any of the options provided in the letter. We understand this was not the situation you had hoped for and we're truly sorry for the way it has impacted your vacation experience. -Kar” Then via Reddit he was provided with several RC management email addresses, and sent an email. From that email he received a phone call and RC made him an offer - it sounds like he is inclined to take it. The offer from RC, per OP: "I have been called by RCI head office so thank you for blowing up this post. They offered me a significantly improved compensation package. Full refund. 100% FCC and a free deluxe drinks package for any cruise length." "I might have been able to push for more but I think this is much more reasonable offer." "I think sending emails to head corporate office got their attention as they proactively called me with this and I didn’t have to demand anything."
  8. If you check in using the app you can skip ahead and get your boarding time and then come back later to finish checking in. When you are ready to finish checking in you can do it on the app or online.
  9. Maybe they were getting too many photos that didn't meet their requirements. They would always retake our photos at the port so I stopped uploading them in advance.
  10. My experience in a junior suite, and others have reported the same, is the tub is raised up and has a high side, it would be difficult to enter the tub for a person with limited mobility.
  11. Here is the original post: https://www.reddit.com/r/royalcaribbean/comments/185ni0s/overbooking_on_the_day/
  12. Quantum of the Seas sailing out of Brisbane, Australia. A person on Reddit posted a letter he received when he arrived at the port yesterday to board the ship. He had booked a GTY cabin but was never assigned a cabin number, and at the port was told a cabin was not available. 13 couples received the letter and were put on standby for a cabin. 2 couples were eventually assigned a cabin, the other 11 were denied boarding and were left behind when the ship sailed. As you can see from the attached letter the compensation offered for being denied boarding at the port is pitiful. This was an 8 night cruise, these people took over a week of vacation from work and now have lost their vacation cruise. I guess "Guarantee" doesn't really mean a cabin is guaranteed. Maybe they need to change the name. He can choose another cruise and sail without additional charge or compensation, or receive a refund plus 25% FCC. These offers are way below what others have been offered when given advance notice of a possible overbooking. There is no mention of compensation for flights or hotel, but the OP lived locally to the port. He was probably selected to be bumped for this reason, so flights would not need to be reimbursed. I'll post the link to the original source if anyone can confirm links to Reddit are allowed here.
  13. In your cruise planner it shows the discounted price, with the full price crossed out. That crossed out price is what you will pay if you book onboard.
  14. Are you sure about the refundable deposit? I am pretty sure they don't offer a refundable deposit option for suite bookings. Edit: Maybe I misread. The suite deposit is not refundable, you are saying the other deposit is refundable. But if that is a nextCruise booking I think NextCruise deposits are not refundable.
  15. In fairness to the Pinnacles (does anyone ever really say that??) there is a dress code for the Suite Lounge that does not include shorts for men. But it does greatly irritate me when you pay all that extra money for a suite and then can't get a seat in the Suite Lounge because they're all taken by Pinnacles.
  16. Here is the St Kitts / Nevis message board on this site. Lots of information about the port and a good place to ask questions specific to the port: https://boards.cruisecritic.com/forum/329-st-kitts-amp-nevis/
  17. I know one person who was upgraded to Diamond during a cruise, but not in the way you might think. We have a friend who cruises with us, and all three of us are Diamond members. She got married and brought her husband on a cruise. We were all drinking our free drinks and he was paying for his drinks when it occurred to me that since he married a Diamond he is entitled to Diamond status too. We took him downstairs to the loyalty desk and they upgraded him on the spot. We picked up a new SeaPass card at guest services and he enjoyed free diamond drinks the rest of the cruise.
  18. The reserved seating at shows is most beneficial for the ice show, which can often have capacity crowds. They actually check SeaPass cards to let you sit there, although when it gets close to showtime I think they open the unused seats for everyone so don't delay.
  19. What is disappointing is you pay a large premium for the suite on IOTS but you don't get some of the most beneficial suite benefits as on the Oasis and Quantum class ships - Voom internet for each person, and the Coastal Kitchen suite restaurant. One benefit you didn't list is a separate line when checking in, which is beneficial if you like to arrive early when there are big crowds. I think the biggest "benefit" of the suite is extra living space and more storage space. Especially in the suite you are considering, you would have two actual bedrooms separate from the living space, and two bathrooms which can make a huge difference.
  20. The dining credit will be OBC in your account. OBC from a TA doesn't show up in your account until you're on board the ship which means you can't use it now. In my experience the "dining credit" OBC is just like any other OBC and you can use it for anything, so go ahead and use your existing OBC and it will be replenished once onboard. .
  21. Don't buy an internet package. The suite includes an internet account for each person. The suite also includes access to the suite lounge which has a bar. They serve free wine and beer all day, along with complimentary mixed drinks during happy hour. With all those free drinks, plus being off the ship during port days, you would be hard pressed to make a drink package worth the cost. A casita is not such a good deal, and you will have access to the suite sun deck which has plenty of seating, so no casita needed.
  22. When Voyager of the Seas was launched it was the largest cruise ship in the world. The first with an ice rink and a rock climbing wall. The first RC ship with a royal promenade. Fun fact: Katarina Witt, Olympic gold medal skater, was named the godmother of Voyager of the Seas in conjunction with the ship having the first ice rink at sea.
