  1. Charge is $4.00 per round trip. Houston airport charges are $2.75 plus $1.00 between 8 PM and 6 AM. Cruise passenger fees are $11.00 each embarking; $11.00 each disembarking.
  2. I sent my passport in for renewal on January 31st, check cleared February 6th and received passport on March 9th. I paid extra for expedited service but not expedited delivery. Passport not due for renewal until August, but too many cruises before to be comfortable waiting. Glad I sent in early.
  3. Latest update: Contract to be executed in April; effective May 1st.
  4. It will help some. I believe most of the drivers come from the mainland as Galveston does not have the population to support. Same with taxis.
  5. Will post effective date when I hear back from Trustee.
  6. The Wharves Board of Trustees approved the contract at the March 24th meeting and authorized the Port Director to execute the contract. I assume it will be signed this coming week. There is no link. I spoke with one of the Trustees this morning.
  7. Drinks are available upon boarding. Some brands will not be served until reaching international water due to the State requirement of purchasing liquor with the State stamp.
  8. No. Use Uber, Lyft or Taxi. Location maps can easily be found through Google.
  9. Transportation Network Companies (TNC's) such as taxi's ride share, shuttles, etc. must pay a fee enter the port through a contract. Uber has not agreed so, legally, is not to enter the port. Drop off would be on the south side of Harborside Dr. Depending on which terminal, could be quite a walk. Personally, I wouldn't.
  10. I'll take Dungeness crab over any other crab and lobster. I remember the long gone days when they were 39 cents a pound when living in Washington.
  11. There are many hotels along Seawall Blvd, beach front (not on the beach). East of 25th there is a trolley that runs a few blocks on Seawall and does a circle to downtown. Uber, Lyft and taxis are available on the island. Staying anywhere east of 61st St., transportation will be very affordable. Check out visitgaveston.com for more information on the island.
  12. Snorkeling is not an activity in Galveston; only offshore diving. All the ports we have been to in Mexico and Caribbean that have water activities have snorkel rentals at the beach front.
  13. There is something going on every weekend in Galveston, but not to the extent of Mardi Gras (February/March) or Lone Star Bike Rally (first weekend in November}
  14. For information: I sent my Passport in on January 30th, shows received on February 2nd; received today. I did pay for expedited service but not mail though is was sent by expedited mail by the State Department. 4 weeks - not bad.
  15. Absolutely. And, even those costs can vary depending on time and size of vehicle. We pay $140 to go to/from IAH from the island and $80 to/from Hobby for private transportation; not Uber or Lyft.
  16. You can check costs. uber is approximately $83 for small vehicle and $140 for large. Lyft should be comparable.
  17. LOL my dander isn’t up. Just stating business facts. BTW: cars turned in are not immediately placed back in service; typically 24 hours later. i also happen to be in the tourism business!
  18. Sorry you feel this way. Galveston is an island with approximately 52,000 residents. Transportation is private enterprise; not affordable or viable for a city to take on. There is no passenger train and hasn't been for decades. Even Amtrak has few passengers going east or west and is unreliable. The tracks are controlled by the railroads, not the City. Bus service stopped over a decade ago due to no riders. Same with car rental, it is not economically feasible and a logistic nightmare. Hertz made the decision to leave in 2008 due to economics. Galveston is a destination, entertaining over 7 million visitors annually, As with the majority of resort towns, minimum stays are required. Many have a 3 night minimum. as we recently discovered. It's not price gouging, it is business. Businesses know to perform due diligence to see if economically feasible and profitable. The island being just of the mainland, does not meet the economic requirements for numerous entities. The City has nothing to do with what you are asking. Just as cruise lines provide transportation ONLY on sailing days, not 7 days a week - economics!
  19. Check with your travel agent or cruise line for transportation. Hobby airport is the closest at 40 miles; on the south side of Houston. IAH (Intercontinental) is 70 miles; on the north side of Houston.
  20. Transportation Network Companies i.e.: taxis, Uber, Lyft, limousines etc.
