  1. There are no hotels within walking distance. There are no sidewalks. Harborside entrance at 14th st. has 18 wheelers entering/leaving. Haborside is the main thoroughfare to the ferry trucks and cars.. The port is industrial - not designed for walkers.
  2. Gas prices and insurance costs have increased exponentially.
  3. It all depends on service and your destination. There are not always direct flights from a European hub such as Frankfurt or Paris. We fly non-stop to Europe, Once there we don't mind a connecting flight or two as there are multiple inter Europe flights but only one daily international from Houston to a hub. Less miles used equates to more travel.
  4. I agree the air miles needed start out way too high. I check continuously and search various routes. Booked Houston to Venice business first with UA miles on Lufthansa (preferred international carrier) for less than 80,000 PP for October of this year. Booked another flight from Bologna to Houston next June for 88,000 PP - again flying Lufthansa business class.
  5. Auto insurance is required in the State of Texas and to enter the Port of Galveston. They are registered with the port. They provide excellent service.
  6. Both cruises out of Lisbon. Years ago, repositioning was typically spring and fall; now not so n=much as cruise lines are constantly moving ships.
  7. We are sailing the Adventure of the Seas to Barcelona from Ft. Lauderdale late October 2024 then 3 days later bring Celebrity Epic back to Ft Lauderdale.
  8. We sailed the Radiance of the Seas in May, which is a smaller ship. Loved it and the glaciers. Lots of ice, but still close enough to enjoy. Smaller ships are able to get closer depending on ice conditions.
  9. Scholes Field had commercial flights until the mid 70's. There has been discussion of re-opening for commercial traffic. However there are many improvements that must occur including lengthening of runways. 2026 is too optimistic; 10 years is more realistic due to the associated costs.
  10. There is no designated day for the free wash and fold for D+. We send in laundry whatever day we choose which is the same for D with the $10 discount
  11. Food is subjective, We have found excellent restaurants in Civitavecchia and surrounding area. One of our favorites is Tenuta Dell' Argento, in the hills above the city. Reservations a must. There are several sites listing restaurants, menus and reviews,
  12. Taxi, private vehicle, bus - easy to google Ravenna to port. Several websites provide information,
  13. Thank you. Have traveled and lived all over Europe but this is first trip to Venice. Better late than never!
  14. Are there luggage storage facilities at the airport? Arriving from the U. S. in mid October for first leg of extended land and cruise trip. Would like to leave extra luggage at airport and retrieve 4 days later when picking up rental car for second leg of trip.
  15. WOW The beauty of travel is different food. Much prefer international cuisine to the typical fast food fare most Americans crave. Languages - the majority of the world speak something else than English. Again the beauty of traveling Having sailed MSC, the worst guests were Americans - rude, nasty and whiny. Basically demanding a U S love boat cruise in English only with hot dogs and hamburgers.
  16. Hank: We will be staying at Hotel David for 3 nights. We have stayed at Tenuta Dell'Argento in the hills above Civitavecchia several times - fabulous restaurant! We have driven to lakes outside of Rome, Ostia Antica, Tarquinia, an Etruscan historic site and all the way to Genoa and are fortunate we do not fly in the day prior to a cruise but spend time discovering new areas.
  17. We have stayed in Rome multiple times and see no reason to stay again, though we love Rome, as there is so much to see outside of Rome. We always have a car with this driving trip starting in Venice. We don't care to haul luggage through train stations and hail taxis. As I stated prior, everyone should make decisions that work for them.
  18. We have stayed several times in Civitavecchia and will do so again in October. There are numerous hotels, B&B's and vacation rentals. We have stayed in the hills overlooking the port and in town and both had there own charm. Only you can decide what is the best fit for you.
  19. I recommend taking the hotel shuttle. Lyft, Uber or Taxi you could have a long wait or not even availability. Why stress over a few dollars?
  20. There are numerous ones listed in Gulf Coast Departures. We always use Saltwater Moms
  21. We were on the Radiance 28 days from April 21st. Free coffee at Cafe Latte-tudes. Just show sea pass. Had my cappuccino multiple times every day.
  22. All drivers have a waiting area away from terminals. Once you log in to Uber, the App will tell you how long before pick up and you text driver the location number outside of terminal luggage pick up. All pick ups are in the same locations. In Galveston , check with hotel for transportation options. Same with return to IAH It is not complicated.
