  1. Look at the GeoBlue plans. They have both per trip and annual plans. The annual plans are often worth it even if you do only 2-3 trips or one long trip each year.
  2. No for most of that. It is primarily medical and medical evacuation. No USA coverage, outside of US only. It does cover pre-existing conditions.
  3. I see how my wording was confusing. I was trying to say: Mary229 has no pre-existing conditions and I hope her parent(s) or travel partner(s) also have no pre-existing conditions. Chase won't cover cancellation if the reason for cancelation can be tied back to a pre-existing condition of any of the people we are talking about (Mary, spouse, parents).
  4. Yes, they are happy to let me buy On Board Credits with the gift cards. I can definitely find a way to add more OBCs to my account using the gift cards, although your suggestion was one I did not know about. Once I have the OBCs, how can I use them to purchase specialty dining or a wi-fi package before I board? I do not see any way to purchase these items except through the Medallion app. And I see no way to apply OBCs through the app. I know I can use OBCs to purchase shore excursions in advance through the princess.com '"Cruise Personalizer". The other items are not available on the Cruise Personalizer. Am I missing something simple here? By the way, I ended up just paying for one specialty dining with a credit card because the date and time window was important.
  5. That's good. I assume it also applies to your "parent or travel partner" too. Just remember that if you file a claim with Chase for any part of their coverage that excludes pre-existing conditions (trip cancellation and interruption), they have the right to see medical records to prove there were no pre-existing conditions. Some people are surprised by this and are not comfortable with turning over their medical records to the insurer. Access to medical records does not apply to just Chase or credit cards. It applies to any travel insurance policy where you were not able to waive the pre-existing conditions clause, and the claim is due to a medical reason. You may be very well aware of this, but it might help someone else reading this thread. Also, Chase applies the pre-existing condition language to non-traveling immediate family members. Many comprehensive travel insurance policies don't include non-traveling family members in their definition of a pre-existing condition. I am not trying to talk you out of what you are doing. I just want to be sure you understand some of the limitations. We use an annual GeoBlue Trekker policy and a Chase card for most of our trips. Occasionally we add a separate comprehensive policy, depending on the trip.
  6. Check the current policy (and expiration date) for the cruise line you are considering. The lines we have traveled since the restart currently would refund your non-refundable payments in the form of a Future Cruise Credit. The credits have expiration dates for book by date or cruise by date or both. Any refundable payments such as port taxes and fees will be refunded in cash.
  7. I do not know the answer or have any first-hand experience, but I think there is a chance they may be covered. Here are a few thoughts. 1) I'm not sure where you see the "5 days" of hotel, but the current "cruise with confidence plan" (https://www.princess.com/plan/cruise-with-confidence/covid-19-protection-program/) seems to say they will cover "shoreside meals" and " COVID-related medical care". It also talks about hotel reimbursement, but "reimbursement of eligible expenses" is in the sentence about being denied boarding. It leaves out the reimbursement part "If isolation is required at the end port of the cruise". Shoreside If you test positive for COVID-19 during your cruise, you will be reimbursed for expenses for COVID-related medical care, including those incurred during any medically required post-disembarkation quarantine period. This includes air change fees if onward travel plans need to change. Any shoreside meals will be covered by a per-diem meal allowance as communicated by a letter provided onboard prior to disembarkation. (no receipt retention is required). A letter will be provided at the pier or by our shipboard team prior to disembarkation. If isolation is required at the end port of the cruise, the ship Guest Services team will provide guests a list of hotels and internet access so impacted guests can make their own hotel arrangements. If denied boarding, shoreside staff will provide the list to guests for them to make their own hotel arrangements, instructions for requesting reimbursement of eligible expenses and contact information for assistance with onward flight arrangements. 2) You might want to repost this on the Princess board, because this is really a Princess question, not insurance. I assume you are asking about the current Princess COVID policy, not their Princess Vacation Protection (insurance) plan. If you get multiple responses with the same answer from people in this situation, I would feel pretty good about it. 3) You could call Princess and ask. If you get a positive answer, try to get them to put it in writing. You may have to make multiple calls to different agents. This could take some time, but if you don't have it in writing, you have nothing.
  8. The policy you are talking about will cover you for an international trip from the time you leave home until you return home. But, call them to make sure this is the best policy for your needs. They are there at 8:30am EDT. If you want a policy that will cover trip cancelation due to COVID/other illness before departure, most if not all policies will do this as long as you meet any pre-existing conditions clauses. If you want medical coverage before departure (from your home), I am not aware of any policies that would cover you.
  9. Here is what it was up until about a year ago.
  10. Yes, this test is fine. Princess will accept a NAAT test, and that is what the Walgreens test is ( it is the IDNow Rapid NAAT test). I have been on three three recent cruises with Princess and HAL. Both lines have the same exact wording for approved tests. On all of these cruises, the Walgreens test was accepted without question. Many others we cruised with also used this test.

  12. This situation would be covered by many policies, although it may be for a limited number of days at a dollars per day limit. There is a good chance you will need something from a doctor when you submit the claim. Read the Trip Interruption section of your policy to find out what is covered, and any limitations.
  13. The best answer for you can depend on the cruise line and your personal situation. For example, some lines let you cancel up to 30 days before the cruise and get a full Future Cruise Credit (FCC). These rules were put into effect when post COVID sailings began, and some lines have extended them one or more times. Based on some responses here, I am guessing you are on Celebrity, and to the best of my knowledge, Celebrity does not offer this. If I am wrong, or you are on a different line be sure to verify the policy before purchasing anything. As others have said, you need a Cancel For Any Reason (CFAR) policy to do what you want. (I won't advise on having a boss write a cancel for work reason note). Most third party CFAR policies will pay in cash, but typically only 75%. Those policies will include cruise costs and other non refundable costs such as hotels. Most cruise line CFAR insurance will offer a FCC for the non refundable cruise costs. The percentages vary from 75 to 100%. Celebrity offers 90%. If you have other non cruise costs, they are typically not covered by a cruise line policy. If all you have is the cruise fare and all you care about is CFAR and an FCC is acceptable, Celebrity Cruise Care could be the best and most cost effective option. However, if you also need medical and evacuation coverage (you probably do if you regular medical insurance does not cover you), then most cruise line coverage is not enough. Many only cover $10K, although Celebrity covers $25K. I don't think this is enough, but you may be willing to take the risk. Yes, a good travel insurance broker will be useful. But few if any of them will offer and advice on the cruise line plan. Hope this helps. I wish it was a simple answer. Edit: I just noticed you are from South Florida, so airfare and hotels are probably not a concern for you.

  15. The way I read it, the CDC says you need the second booster to be "Up to Date" if you are over 50 and had your first booster at least 4 months ago. One booster is ok for adults under 50. The link you posted above has a link that takes you to: https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/vaccines/stay-up-to-date.html From that page, scroll down to your situation (age and the vaccine you first received. Here is a screenshot for Adults who had the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine. The recommendations are pretty much the same for the other vaccines.
  16. Yes. You have to look at each policy. I just compared Nationwide Essential and Allianz One Trip Basic for a hypothetical trip. These may or may not be the policies you are considering. For me, the Nationwide price was more than $30 cheaper for two people on an inexpensive one week cruise. I always look at Medical. Nationwide was $75K coverage per person, but it was secondary coverage. Allianz had only $10K of coverage, but it was primary. For me, neither one of these plans would work. In my situation, I need primary coverage and $10K is way too low. Allianz offers many different plans often sold through travel agents, so your plan may be very different from the one I looked at. A good insurance broker such as tripinsurancestore.com is very helpful in walking you through options and answering questions. They don't sell either one of these plans, but they will find you an appropriate one for your situation.
  17. Is there a way to use a gift card to purchase wi-fi and specialty dining reservations pre cruise? I know I can use the card onboard, but last cruise, the Crown Grill was booked solid for any times before 8:30. Wi-fi was more expensive onboard, They did give us a credit for the price difference, but I don't know if that is normal policy. I called Princess and the rep told me both of these items had to be purchased through the Medallion app and I could use a gift card in the app. The only payment option I see in the app is a single credit card - the one used for the onboard folio.
  18. What cruise line. Some of the cruise line CFAR coverage is better than anything you can get from a third party. Others, not so much.
