  1. I appreciate you and all the time you spent helping me. TY so much.
  2. I think I have this all together, buy wifi, put on airplane mode, use ship internet, use whatsapp with my brother, check my carrier for coverage in the islands. If anyone has other suggestions, please add. To the folks that have helped me, I can't thank you enough, I haven't sailed without mom in 15 years..at 97 she is too unsteady to join us after a hip fracture (while on a cruise) and recovery and I am just worried to be away. Every reply has been so helpful as mom insists we go without her. Thank you all so much.
  3. excellent point, we will look into this, as my brother is reclusive and pays per minute.. We had sprint and it changed to Tmobile I belive.. I will check this out. This is the most important question as to my island time, we are doing the eastern route, but I have not checked with my cell phone company. I will do this and warn my cheap brother about his choices. you are the best, thank you for the reminder. I'm getting lost in my check list of mom safety and forgot to do this!!!!
  4. ok, brother and I are on whatsapp, I will purchase ship wifi.. now what do you do on island time? Just pay for roaming?
  5. ok folks, thanks. Had no idea that a wifi package would do this. I also have never used whatsapp, but will download it now and ask my brother to do the same, going to assume if I purchase the wifi, it will work in real-time. But another stupid question from the internet illiterate, I always keep my phone on airplane mode.. so I get the ship wifi and sign on to that... I am safe from roaming? I can talk to my brother daily on whatsapp and not roam? I'm OBVIOUSLY, behind the IT times and appreciate this input from everyone. May seem simple to folks, but I appreciate everyone helping my anxiety with this. I'm an old fart, please be patient with me.
  6. you describe a good point, location, location!
  7. I have to respect that....the public, dunno, lol
  8. There are tablecloths all over restaurants in the high-dollar Armonds circle restaurants in Sarasota and the city of Sarasota Florida, where shorts are the norm and dinners are casual. Such a reference is moot. We stayed at the Ritz Carlton in Sarasota and the men wore shorts. As experienced travelers, we and most others know how to dress for the venue @Tatka. We just shall agree to disagree. Tablecloths does not make a venue, ick.. found in 3* places that I wouldn't venture in..
  9. Right??? Made my eyes roll out of my head. Well traveled, hmn
  10. So mom is 97, in good health, but I have to be prepared. I gave my brother the contact information as provided from RCCL site. Does anyone know how this works as we are never in our room to accept a call? Does guest services forward a message to the room steward? How do I know if my brother is calling me?
  11. Walter, I wonder if she follows your YouTube channel like I do? Maybe YOU were the star of the dinner!
  12. Someone correct me, but this only applies for Australian cruises.
  13. I am the same. I actually will stagger at times for the first two days off the ship. My doctor prescribed meclizine, which might be spelled wrong, but it's close. This treats vertigo, and has been my go-to. I start taking it my last night on the ship for about three days. It can make you tired though, but I am a medication light-weight.
  14. I'm going to say dynamic pricing. It's the catch all excuse for these everchanging pricing situations, lol.
  15. plenty of time. it's a 45 minute ride without traffic. Expect 15 to 20 minutes of traffic on the weekend. The two lane 528 is the normal route and it has normal back ups prior to the airport.
  16. Hawaii was a touch more casual, I'm going to guess 40% of us women had dresses/nice pants suits.
  17. thanks for the heads up! First-time cruisers, as I have done, over-worry about the "dress code". Hope this helps them. Caribbean cruises are most casual or as dressed as one prefers. That's what makes cruising fun, something for everyone out there. I found Alaska to be more casual as well. We in Florida frequent 5* restaurants and shorts are aok, It's a different culture. We do however, review the dress code prior. Such places as Albert and Victorias has a code that is followed. To each their own.
  18. We are in the same "boat" for our WOS. I was able to check in myself and grandson with no card on him and still got the boarding time. You can pay for your account in cash at guest services, mind you, the line is long the first day.
  19. yes, sold out. download the RCL app and get yourself registered before you hit the port. There are nuances from the site to the app, as expected, but on the app you can upload your ID and link folks and choose excursions. many excursions might be sold out.
  20. go first thing and register at adventure ocean club. For venues such as ice skating and such, if you didn't get in to pre-register there is a line for folks that booked it and didn't show up. Give yourself 15 minutes plus ahead of show time to get those empty seats!
  21. don't know, I don't leave anything for the crew to clean up after me other than the trash bin.
  22. perhaps your second-hand information is incorrect. There are several news agencies reporting she landed upon someone.. which is horrible for BOTH victims involved. We should always keep our minds open until further details and investigations report though.
