  1. The Alhambra is amazing and is a hard ticket to get. It sells out very quickly. There is only one bus allowed per day per cruise line by the venue. Tickets have to have the user’s name pre-printed on it so if there are cancellations aboard the ship, the cannot offer it to other passengers, so no waiting list. If you decide you want this excursion, make sure it is the very first one you purchase as soon as your way now opens on MVJ. Put it in your cart and pay immediately. It will sell out in minutes. It’s a once in a lifetime experience.
  2. In no particular order Athens Monaco Barcelona Venice Copenhagen Bruges Amsterdam
  3. The US State Department has issued a travel advisory for Algeria: Exercise increased caution in Algeria due to terrorism and kidnapping. Do not travel to: Areas near the eastern and southern borders due to terrorism and kidnapping. Areas in the Sahara Desert due to terrorism and kidnapping. Country Summary: Terrorist groups continue plotting possible attacks in Algeria. Terrorists may attack with little or no warning and have recently targeted the Algerian security forces. Most attacks take place in rural areas, but attacks are possible in urban areas despite a heavy and active police presence.
  4. From the MVJ Air FAQ Viking typically handles flight itineraries as a package; therefore, choice of class usually applies for entire flight itinerary. However, a single flight upgrade may be possible with a customized itinerary; please call 1-877-523-0580 to speak with a Viking Air Expert. Please note: Business Class and Premium Economy are guaranteed only for transoceanic flights.
  5. Lol On our last cruise we heard banging in the stateroom next door. Then we noticed furniture on the veranda and end tables in the hallway. We asked our steward about it and he told us they were replacing the carpet in the room due to a bad stain. Personally I think it had to be some sort of hazmat situation such as blood or sewage. I smelled no sewage so it had to be something extreme to cause them to change the carpeting mid voyage. I didn’t even know this was an option.
  6. I always check seat guru to see what type of aircraft is on the route. Sometimes you can find an aircraft (mostly Airbus) that has no middle seat on the window sides. On our last trip to Europe from the west coast, I changed flights just to ensure there was no middle seat. Aircraft can change, but a least you have a better chance of avoiding the situation.
  7. There is currently no German Chef's Table menu. Here is a thread about all the menus
  8. To clarify, you must request transportation at least 30 days before departure. I believe you need to fill out a form and send it in. There is no interface to purchase it directly on MVJ.
  9. The limit is for advance reservations via MVJ. When onboard you can make additional reservations. Viking only puts about half of the available tables on MVJ. You can usually find plenty of tables when onboard, although maybe not at your preferred time. There are lots of threads about this already. There are typically cancellations as FOMO takes hold pre-cruise and everyone wants to use all their allotment of advanced reservations. When onboard they might cancel or simply not show due to a variety of reasons. This is especially true of the Chef’s Table where the menu rotation is unknown to you board. Tip: When you board immediately go the the World Cafe host to book your reservations. Some people say to use the app but I’ve found that upon boarding sometimes it can’t handle the traffic and won’t update. Do it in person and try the app when waiting in line.
  10. We have been thinking about booking this cruise. There are four different Viking extensions for Alaska. Which one were you on?
  11. Thanks for clarifying your particular situation as it was unclear why these were not refundable. The refund is given in the way it was paid for. In this case you used non-refundable credits so you received them back. How do you avoid this in the future? It seems that this is a pretty unique situation. My only suggestion is book a cruise that has a lower chance of so many cancellations. Ports that far north are always subject to cancellations.
  12. You can also purchase the package the first (and maybe 2nd?) day you board.
  13. Here is a thread from last year. I believe the prices are the same. We were on the Venus last month and the cocktail prices are as listed in this thread.
  14. I’ll add that if you’re considering it for the wine, there is nothing exclusive on the wine list. Everything is available for sale. The beverage package is only a different way to pay. Only certain wines are available by the glass and only those are covered by the package, although the package does give you a bottle discount. Also Viking has a liberal bring your own policy. Never a corking charge.
  15. FYI The Tokyo extension was just added to the Viking website for this sailing.
  16. Our Viking agent called a couple of weeks before our cruise to offer a pre-cruise promo.
  17. It looks like a couple of new itineraries in the Mediterranean.
  18. That code is in lieu of booking aboard. They are essentially the same promotion.
  19. I saw that but they sometimes offer multi day excursions, not extensions, when you dock between Ecuador and Peru. Only people with reservations can see those on MVJ.
  20. No tequila. The options are and combination of four mini bottles of scotch, gin, vodka, and rum. They don’t have juice in single serve containers.
  21. I’m curious as to whether the multi day excursion (not extension) to Machu Picchu is being offered on this cruise. If so are there spots available and what is the cost?
  22. No one can predict when your cabin will be assigned. If past is prologue, Viking will off upgrades to people for a fee a couple of weeks before departure, if that doesn’t result in enough availability, a few days before departure they will start upgrading passengers for free. This can continue up until embarkation day. It will all depend on where your cabin is in line when the upgrade dominoes start falling. Some people have had cabins assigned a week or days before departure, others when they check-in. Too many variables at play to predict a timeline.
