  2. in round numbers the distance from 'open water' to Geiranger is ~ 56 nautical miles due to the restricted water of the transit it is safe to assume 'full speed' is NOT the plan. An estimate would be 12 knots ( kt = one nautical mile per hour) and would make the transit (56 / 12) ~ 4:45 .... Seven Sisters is only ~3.5 nautical miles from the town/port so inside the last hour on arrival and the first hour of departure . . .
  3. we boarded QM2 in Hamburg for our west bound crossing in 15 we arrived in Hamburg by train from Regensburg where our river cruise ended and stayed at the Radisson Blue adjacent to the DAMMTOR train station. Took a taxi to Hafen City which is where QM2 berthed at the time ... today I'm SURE they use the new cruise terminal which is buried in the commercial port and close to nothing ..... Rad' was adjacent to a beautiful and LARGE park and a short walk thru the park to shopping and food and and and ... plus a beautiful rooftop bar affording a fantastic view of the city
  4. wonder if it was because they were busy with the classes? I sailed ODY' for 8 days over Thanksgiving, Lauderdale to Aruba and Curacao and other places and the cruise did not offer any courses and very very limited diving excursions even in these two decent dive ports. I saw folks in the 'dive shop/booth' once during the entire trip but can't say I was looking for them . . .
  5. IME you want to just go to the PADI web site and signup for the e-learning course. Do the work and at the end you get a certificate of completion. You present the certificate to the 'referral' shop doing the checkouts. DD completed OW this way. The referral shop (not a ship) gave her a written test to verify she'd done the coursework - simple stuff, nothing new. She then had one pool session and two two tank boats trips (two dives a day maximum for checkouts per PADI rules. We did the whole thing in two days in the Keys. https://www.royalcaribbean.com/faq/topics/padi-scuba-courses-and-excursions INDEPENDENT STUDY 1 PADI eLearning® PADI eLearning makes it easy to fit scuba lessons into a busy schedule. 6. yes .... the office is actually IN the port (shared with ALAMO/NATIONAL)
  7. we've ridden the Bergen funicular when there were maybe 5 people on it total ... this was late in the day on a cool (cold) day ..... and mid summer there was at least a 1 hour wait to go up, and a similar queue waiting go back down making it a long event . . .
  8. don't recall ever seeing such a bus. According to WIKI Flix bought Greyhound in 2021 "On 21 October 2021, FlixBus acquired Greyhound Lines" https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FlixBus UBER is not unreasonable . . .
  9. the tunnel was built to eliminate the need to go thru downtown and stay OFF Biscayne ..... I recommend the tunnel.
  10. Publix Super Market Cornerstone Plaza - Supermarket 5645 N Atlantic Ave Cocoa Beach, FL 32931 about $12 each way by UBER ABC Fine Wine & Spirits - Liquor store 6020 N Atlantic Ave Cape Canaveral, FL 32920 .... a lil closer but only a block or so . . . p.s. in FL ABC is a chain - not a 'state store' Cape Canaveral Liquors 8177 N Atlantic Ave Suite 2 & 3 Cape Canaveral, FL 32920 ... closest but high prices IME
  11. appears high winds have resulted in 4 ships skipping Nassau today and they are steaming away . . . Marinetraffic.com
  12. I was gonna say VIKING too, but I see DS-16 .... no one under 18 on VIKING .... we're booked on this for July ....
  13. in other words ... there is ONE garage to serve several terminals ....... btw I got sent there when cruising from T-18 and there was NO shuttle ..... port parking at PE is a disaster ..... look for an alternative . . .
  14. I doubt my son would book a single again after his recent experience on ODYSSEY OTS .... the cabin was SMALL - he's not - the bed was only a 'full' not even a queen and he his feet hung off the end! lesson learned . . . (p.s. he's an experienced cruiser ... DCL Platinum - did the inaug' voyage of WISH just recently.)
  15. yes you can drop bags first and I'm pretty sure they run a shuttle bus when the parking is not adjacent ..... they are probably meaning the garage between 19 and 25 aka the mid-port garage .... We cruised from PE- T-18 over Thanksgiving and parking at the port was a mess .... they were stuffing cars anyplace they could find enuf space to squeeze one in. I was directed to park in a space marked NO PARKING ..... We've sailed from PE several times but always had a ride to the terminal and did not leave car there......If I ever need to drive myself to PE again I'll use https://www.bookparkngo.com/ftlauderdale.php ... I tried at Thanksgiving but they were full with reservations over a month out . . .
  16. Miami has had cruise ship congestion for a LONG time and as a big city a TON of taxi .... IOW no issues. Compare to Port Canaveral: this issue is new and the surrounding area is basically a small town ......
  17. I'm pretty sure QM2 put in a few a lil while back as well . .
  18. ODYSSEY OTS (Royal) has outside balcony cabins for one .... small and not a bunch of 'em but son had one for Thanksgiving cruise . . .
  19. 6 typically https://www.portcanaveral.com/getattachment/Cruise/Cruise-Lines-Schedules/CPA-Website-Schedule-Nov22-Mar23.pdf.aspx?lang=en-US
  20. covid zapped 'em all and have not seen any plans for reopening. if I was going in near future I'd just walk or taxi to SUNSET HOUSE and My Bar ..... they survived . . .
  21. T-6 is a shared terminal and Royal uses it routinely for the past couple of years. There is a parking garage adjacent to T-6 <as are for all the terminals in Canaveral> IME (6 + times) you can drop bags and then park . . . garage to terminal is about a football field . .
  22. dayuse.com shows nothing in the cocoa beach area .... closest place with a day use room is in Viera (20 miles south) and not anywhere near the beach ...... tripadvisor had the question 5 years ago and closed with no replies. At one time I believe International Palms did day rooms but the website now says permanently closed as the property was sold and there are plans to level it and build a new conference center and hotel. Place had been on last legs for a long time but managed to hang on due to a good on the beach location . . . (confirmed ... closed in Oct)
