I am guessing port side workers are contractors, so they can have status without issues.

For ship side non American or non officer workers, most of them just want to get back home to visit with their families and don't want to spend the money for their family  to fly to the ship

From listening to American workers (think entertainment) on-board ship they also want to head back home and really don't want to "take a cruise" during their off-contract time.  Having a family member/friend take a cruise while they are on-board happens.

Yes, port side workers are contracted.  Depending on the cruiseline some do offer "free" cruises.  Other than that they can go on a friends and family rate.

Does anyone know if family members of staff get a good rate if ships have spare capacity? Still looking at Indy on 26th Sept. A month ago there was 270+ cabins available and these hardly moved over last four weeks. Then over night, last night they dropped capacity by 20+. Still over 200 rooms available but wonder why the sudden drop in capacity (rate has actually gone up last 24 hours). Wondered if it was being offered to crew families at knock down rate?

There are 3 rates for Officer/crew family, depending if they are an officer and how many stripes.  Also would depend on it they are in an passenger cabin or a officer cabin.  Non-revenue do not get C & A points.

I would be "Royally P@ssed" if people who had strollers were allowed to board before Diamond Plus. Seriously, that is just wrong. It's not like on a plane where they need extra time to get their and child and gear stowed and strapped in.

This is only for boarding the ship in port.  Not for boarding at initial embarkation.  You will still board with your loyalty level.

  4. I work at the port and get to the garage usually around 6:45.  There are already folks off the ship and either getting their cars from the garage or getting shuttles/cabs/ubers….  You should do self assist and as others recommend have your passport.

Ok, so no lox on the breakfast 'door hanger', but bringing lox from home??? What? No lox on Lido? If your DH goes to Lido to bring back eggs, sausage & potatoes to the cabin, how come he does not bring back lox from the Lido as well?? Bringing your own lox from home, I don't understand. Has Carnival discontinued lox from their ships entirely?? Is lox no longer available at the Lido buffet?

    🤔

Actually you can order Lox, bagel & cream cheese from the breakfast door hanger, but it is a charge of $3.00.  I have a pix of the door hanger on my phone but not sure how to add it here....

  6. So I agree with some of the above saying it is risky.  But with that being said,  I work at PEV and the Majesty is one of my ships.  I get to work on ship days at 7ish and frequently see folks outside waiting for their shuttle.  Make sure you are one of the first off the ship,  it can be done if all goes well and the ship clears quickly.

Interesting that taking a new photo invalidates the SetSail pass.

The picture does not invalidate the set sail, but often the bar codes do not scan there for making it invalid and so we have to reprint.  Also there has been a glitch at least at Port Everglades where the uploaded pictures do not upload to the check in system.  Not all the time but here and there....

  8. Yes, boarding is by Loyalty.  Once you check in you will be seated with your group until boarding starts.  Once they start, it will be Suites/Pinnacles, Diamond +, Diamond, Emerald, Platinum, Gold, General.  The Adventure sailed last season from T29 and we normally started boarding by 10:30-11:00.  If you come after that time you will go straight on board after check in.

Problem is : how to purchase that Cuban Visa? Local embassy says they cannot do it... Im flying to FLL on Saturday.

Then you can get your Visa when you check in for your cruise.  $75.00 will be billed to your stateroom.  Have a great cruise!!  Are you on the Majesty or Empress??

If you are on the Majesty doors open at 9:30. Boarding generally starts around 10:00  It gets super crowded between 11:45 and 1:30.

Would VERY MUCH appreciate any feedback.

So we booked a cruise with RC going to Cuba next month. We are canadian citizens, NOT american cizitens. I called RC to ask what paperwork I need and they were not very informative, just kept telling me to fill out the same forms americans have to. So of course I called the Cuban consulate in Toronto, and they simply told me "ask the cruise line".

As canadians, we dont need a visa or special authorization to visit Cuba, but need a tourist card, always supplied by the airline. Not sure how it works in this case, since Im flying to the US and then boarding the cruise to Cuba.

    Any ideas?

Yes, you will need to purchase a visa.  The requirements for sailing from the US are different than flying from Canada.  You can if you want purchase your own Cuban Visa in advance and bring it with you.

Just curious as to why no reservations are needed for this parking garage? Is it because of the cost compared to shuttle parking lots? Also, can Hubby drop me and luggage off then park or do we park and carry suitcases to porter?

First come first serve for the garage. It's fairly large.  Miami and Ft. Lauderdale just do not do reservations.  There are two surface lots next to the garage if for some reason it is full.  As far as dropping luggage off & then parking, that is what I always do.

  12. I have a choice for an 8 night cruise.  Itineraries are very similar with the differences being Half Moon Cay for Magic and La Romana for Horizon.  I have been on the Horizon.....  My biggest concern with the Magic is I have read about A/C and mold issues.....any one with recent experience with that?

Unless something has changed in the last few months, I believe they only have to provide that if they are taking the dog off the ship into the ports of call. It would be the specific ports of call that require this.    The cruise line requires nothing that I know of.

Nothing has changed in the past two years that I have worked at the port.   We are REQUIRED to obtain those records to give to the ship.  Those without the required documents, the dog will be denied boarding.  Most ports require their own documentation if the owner desires to take the dog off the ship.

Unfortunately your request will never be granted, no matter where you are.  I don't believe those bringing their pets with them even have to prove anything to the cruise lines.

Actually they do.  They have a series of records that are needed before they are allowed to board.  Shot records, etc.   Also they are no longer allowing any emotional support dogs if they booked after July 31,2018.  Going forward only support dogs are allowed.  But people can and will circumvent and lie to get the dogs onboard!!

The website encourages people to use the Set Sail Pass on the Royal App to make boarding quicker.  How does that work exactly?  Do we still need to check in at the counter?

Depending on the ship they are now using tablets to check you in.  It is very quick and easy as long as you have completed all of your info. As long as boarding has started it a very quick process!!
