New cruisers here……I’ve read that the dress codes on some cruise lines aren’t very strict. What is it like on Royal (the Jewel specifically)?  My husband wants to pack into a carry-on only (one for each of us) and we will be dressing in long sleeve sporty shirts and technical pants with tennis shoes for most of the days of our trip. Are those inappropriate for the dining room?  How fancy is the formal night?

My husband has to keep his food mostly salt-free. We don’t want to have to eat in the buffet most of the time, because they can’t accommodate him there and we can’t eat salt-free when in port for lunches. We need to figure out just how much dressier stuff we will need to take so we can fit it all in.

You will be perfectly fine, even for formal night. Mediterranean cruises are a bit more formal, but you will still be fine.

Poor Bobby is gone. In addition to his out-of-control hyperthyroidism, his last labs showed very poor heart and liver function. And then this past week, he developed ascites, with fluid building up and distending his abdomen. We were able to get him into the vet this morning. Poor baby, he was in pain, and we agreed to have him euthanized. He was the last of my mom's cats. It is for the best, but always so sad.

I didn’t want to “like” this, but I wanted to say how sorry I am.

  3. @sgmn An author that I am really liking is Louise Penny (I believe Dani recommended her ages ago!) It’s about small town life and murders in a Quebec village. I gather that Three Pines is like Cabot Cove or Midsummer- spending time there is dangerous!

There definitely is a Canadian flavour, which I find nice.

  4. This is how I spent yesterday. This is the apple tree after Chris had spent several hours picking.

The garden under the tree is a work in progress- we keep having to dig up our neighbour’s poplar roots! Eventually it will be lush. I was going to put delphiniums in, but they’re poisonous to dogs and cats. Any suggestions for a Zone 3 plant? I’m thinking of meadowsweet, for something tall against the fence.

Our littlest grandsons Christening/first birthday party was yesterday. Held in a church that has strong links for us. We were married there, our kids were christened there. Gary and I were baptised there as adults and my parents are buried there.

Lovely little Christening service from Father Richard and great party in the church hall afterwards

That is a marvellous cake! Was the rabbit a keepsake, or was it fondant?  Very nice pictures of a very happy day!

Well this week has been a challenge.  My son moved to Florida for many reasons but one was to help his father  who was having some health problems.  Sunday my son called me to let me know his father had fallen while he was leaving a restaurant and had broken his hip.  Monday they did a hip replacement.  Tuesday my son called to say that his dad was being moved to icu because he was not doing well.  His dad ended up passing away that night.  It has been really hard on my son. Today the funeral home said the ME might have to do an autopsy to find a clear cause of death for the death certificate.   Even more challenging is the fact that my Ex left a financial mess for my son to decipher. My heart hurts for my son having to go through all this.  I am thankful that my son's fiance is such a wonderful young woman who has been there for him.

    How heartbreaking for your son.

Not really sure why Vikki ever thought this would be a good idea.

I did try that based on the vet’s recommendations. Stanley likes the toothpaste, but, not surprisingly, doesn’t like having his teeth brushed. We tried a sort of finger cot with scrubbie bits, but that didn’t work either. He does like dental treats though, so that’s what he’s having!

I posted a picture of Sarah's cat Evie a while ago.  Evie was not Sarah's cat for long and she is now ours.  All I can say is thank goodness I don't live on a farm like @A&L_Ontor I'd never know what new animal would be awaiting.

Sarah realized after a couple days that the guy she got her from wasn't exactly telling the truth wtruthe said that she didn't shed much.  Only Sarah in her excitement to get a cat would believe that a Turkish Angora Siamese cross would not shed.

Vikki decided to knit her a hat.

She’s a lovely cat, but she doesn’t look entirely sure of the hat!

I block it in the guest bedroom which is a no cat zone.  For some reason none of the cats bother my yarn while I am knitting.  My craft room is also a no cat room unless I am in there.

    The shawl is lovely.

My dining room is a no cat zone- it’s hard to quilt with a cat on one end of the project! The only drawback is sometimes you need a dining room.

Yesterday, we made our third trip to Kennywood Amusement Park, but this time we had all three grandkids.  It was busier than the other two times this year, but the kids (and us) had a blast.

Lots of coaster rides and water rides

You really are the best grandfather! Your grandkids are very lucky.
