  1. Did NCL reduce the number of crew significantly ? In the past every cabin steward was assigned to e.g. 8 cabins. He did the morning service within a specific time span and later the evening service within a specific time span.In between he had for sure other stuff he was told to do. If the same cabin steward now has 16 cabins assigned to him this would have a big impact on the complete crew planning and work schedule. - doing service for 16 instead of 8 cabins in almost the same time is impossible - if every cabin steward had double amount of cabins, this would mean that on a ship with e.g. 800 cabins they would only need 50 instead of 100 cabin stewards for the morning service. But what would the other 50 stewards do during this time ? - if these (now) 50 cabin stewards don`t have to do turn down service , what would they do during the time span they used for turn down service so far ? It would mean that the cruise line would have to make big changes in the daily work plan for all of their crew. I can`t imagine that a cruise would do big changes in their work plans cause every change has the risk of making the whole operations slower/less efficient. On the other hand i don`t think a cabin steward would tell ****. In general i would like to know for what the free time of the cabin stewards are used now. As turn down services are now discontinued it means that the cabin stewards a spending less time working in the cabins. But the length of their work days for sure hasn`t been reduced.they will still have to work 10 hours a day. So they can be "used" for other work to do instead of turn down services. And to me it would be interesting to know for what kind of work they use the gained time now. Or did they just reduce the total no. of crew on board of each ship ?
  2. there are two options that make sense: 1. Accept them(but then one should not complain, whine or moan about them) 2. not accept them and use another cruise line. If nobody uses a cruise line because of morally reprehensible behavior this is the only way to have a chance that they will change their behavior.
  3. Nobody forces you to accept these terms and conditions. If you don`t then just book on another cruise line. But i guess you will be surprised that similar wordings are mentioned in the T&C `s of practically all major cruise lines. I think that RocketMan275 was referring to jdc987 insisting on his right to get what he paid for. He gets what he has paid for. If someone does not want to read the T&C`s before booking then he can`t blame the cruise lines for it. the T&C`s might be morally reprehensible(in my opinion they for sure are) but so far no no court has declared them invalid,so they seem to be compatible with the U.S. laws.(and the laws of all countries they are operating in)
  4. The training of the crew always takes place without any passengers.they are training every possible emergency.Usually they do it on a port day where most passengers are off the ship so that the impacts on the passenger services are as low as possible. the muster drill for the passengers functions almost only for the passengers, not the crew.
  5. 109 USD for 7 nights = 15,42 USD per day. That is a little bit more than one cocktail. There won`t be many people that drink THAT little. Generally spoken, everyone that claims about the high prices of NCL. the principle of the market economy is very simple: the price is the result of offer and demand. As long as there are enough people willing to pay these prices there is no need for NCL to go down.
  6. Without reading the whole thread, there are only two important things in an emergency. 1. the passenger has to find/know his muster station 2. he must know how to properly wear the life jacket. Both can be easily checked without having to be at the muster station for a long time. Watch the video,go with your life jacket on to your muster station, maybe answer one or two questions from the crew(about the content of the safety video) and thats it.
  7. At least this is the best way for the american, african and european continent. In Asia there are some countries(Korea, Japan) where it would be almost an insult if you tip the guide/driver.
  8. Absolutely right. At least in Germany there is usually nothing such as a refundable deposit.
  9. Efficiency means to do the work with as little amount of staff as possible. If the same work can be done with 9 % less employees than it automatically increases the efficiency "efficiency" in almost all large companies is just another word for profitability. I don`t need the second daily room service, but the live entertainment is one of the things that NCL is famous for. the big stage shows as well as the large amount of live musicians/performers throughout the ship. If the reduce this significantly they are loosing an important part of their concept. I still do have cruise next certificates and will use it for a cruise end of the year(most likely) Based on the experience on this cruise i will decide whether to use NCL again or maybe switch to RCCL.
  10. did they change it again? On my cruise in 2019 it was per port, on my cruise January 2022 it was per excursion( i booked two in Aruba and got the reduction on both of them)
  11. Each oasis class ship costs 1.5 billion USD. RCI is not a charity organization. They have to and want to earn money with the cruises. With the average cruise fare they can`t do it.SO the bar prices is one the additional ways to make money.
  12. In Tourist areas they will even prefer euros or dollars, cause they are much more stable.
  13. It is absolutely unacceptable that you did not get notified about this port change. No matter what the reasons were but at least they should notify their clients. BUT Aarhus is clearly as attractive as Berlin. Maybe not that big but that doesn`t matter.
  14. If i would book elsewhere every time i am not satisfied with some promotion, service change or other stuff of a cruise line i would have a problem cause there would be no cruise line left. So i book with the cruise line that suits my preferences best.(as long as the cruise fare is worth it for me)
  15. Only 20 years old, but practically no balcony cabins, only one suite, only one small speciality restaurant.. So almost nothing to create additional revenue. Also very outfashioned tecnical standard(very high pollution of the environment) and due to this quite a lot interesting an uncommon sailing areas not available any more(due to higher environmental requirements) I think it was simply not possible to operate this ship economically anymore. Especially as AIDA seems to concentrate on families and more fun on their newer ships.
