  1. The Gateway to India, the Taj Hotel and the Laundry Ghat
  2. Today we reach our last Indian port, Mumbai, before we head north west to the United Arab Emirates and the ports of Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Bahrain, Fujairah, Khor Fakkan etc.. i'm hoping that some passengers will board here as I know that P&O have done cruises in this area. here is Mumbai...
  3. Our last stop was at the spice plantation
  4. Panjim, the capital was a big, bustling city with a fabulous market... We also visited the Church of the Immaculate Conception.... and the Basilica of Bom Jesus
  5. India again today as we arrive in Mormugao, the port for Goa. We sail north again and dock in Mumbai tomorrow. We did a trip from the port to the capital of Goa, Panjim and then out into the countryside to a spice farm... Mormugao was very industrialised and the town wasn't particularly attractive so I'm glad we got to see other parts of the region.
  6. Our favourite place to visit when we are in that area is the Kerala Backwaters and the trips on the converted rice barges....
  7. You beat me to it again, Bee-ess and you have much better pictures of the town than I have but here are mine. We were in Kochi on Good Friday in 2017 and were amazed to see the Christian parades through the town...
  8. Hi Bee-ess, your pictures of the elephant sanctuary are wonderful so thanks for posting them. We are now sailing north west along the coast of India and will arrive in Mormugao, Goa tomorrow. I have a long love affair with India and have visited many times on cruises and land tours. I love the history, the culture, colour and the hustle and bustle. Kochi sail-in and out passing the Chinese nets.....
  9. In 2020 we travelled from to Colombo into the centre of the island where we visited the Botanical Gardens.....
  10. On our first visit in 2017 we did a tour down the coast to the city of Galle...
  11. We visited the war cemetery many years ago and it left a lasting impression. A very moving and humbling experience. It is Sri Lanka today and we dock in a rain storm. Tomorrow we head to India with our first stop being Cochin/Kochi. Colombo...
  12. We also enjoyed touring the city centre and seeing how much the city has grown since our first visit in 1994
  13. Another day and another port but before we dock in Singapore, I'd like to say thank you to Adawn and Bee-ess for reminding me of happy memories of Hong Kong, especially flying in to and out of Kai Tak airport in the 1990s. That was a very scary experience. It seems strange now to be boarding a ship instead of a plane at kai Tak now! We continue heading west tomorrow and dock in Colombo, Sri Lanka. My Singapore pictures are mostly from our most recent visit in January 2020 with a couple from New Year 2014. We docked in the old cruise port in 2020.....
  14. On our first visit in 1995, we went on the ferry across to Macau which had a very 'olde worlde' Portuguese feel.... We went back in 2019 via the newly opened bridge and we were amazed to find ourselves in 'Las Vegas'. The Chinese love to gamble!
  15. It's always great fun to ride on the Peak tram and to see the views from the top...
  16. Morning fellow cruisers and thank you for the wonderful pictures of some of my favourite places. Bee-ess has pulled into Hong Kong before me today so obviously an early riser! We will have turned west tomorrow when we arrive in Singapore and its surrounding areas. here are my Hong Kong pictures taken over a number of visits. Arriving in 2019! I love the hustle and bustle.... and the Temple Street night market.. We also enjoy the parks and gardens
  17. Bali was one of the first 'exotic' places that we visited in the 1990s when we did a hotel stay for a week. We have been back twice on cruises, the last time was in January 2020 and we were amazed at how very touristy the coastal areas near the port have become. Thankfully, once away from the coast, the pace of life was much slower and the countryside remains much as we remembered.
  18. It's cold and frosty here this morning so it was lovely to see the pictures of hot and steamy Darwin. Today we are visiting Komodo Island and Bali plus anywhere on the way north from Australia to Bali. Tomorrow we dock in Hong Kong and the surrounding areas. The Komodo Dragons were BIG!!!!
  19. Cairns port is used by the smaller cruise ships so the larger ones anchor off shore at either Port Douglas or Yorkey's Knob and tender passengers in. There isn't a lot to see at Yorkey's Knob but it is quite close to Cairns... We didn't spend much time in Cairns itself although it is a nice , clean small city..
  20. We drove up to the Daintree River.... and stopped at the Mossman Gorge on the way back... We spent a lot of time at the Cairns Botanical Gardens...
  21. In 2019 we stayed in an apartment for a week just outside Cairns which we used as a base to visit several places. The beaches were beautiful but swimming was restricted to caged areas because of the danger from sharks and crocs!! We did the Kuranda heritage train ride up into the hills.... and a boat trip to Green Island to see a bit more of the Great Barrier Reef..
  22. Good morning cruisers, Queensland today and then heading north. I hope you don't mind but I'm going to open up the areas a little more because there are often ports close together which offer wonderful photo opportunities. Bearing that in mind, tomorrow we are visiting Komodo Island and Bali. Please feel free to add pictures from Papua New Guinea and Indonesia as well. Here are my Queensland pictures. We visited Port Douglas in 2011 and did a boat trip out to the great barrier Reef in cold and rainy weather. Fortunately, the sun came out as we reached the island but it was still too cold
  23. Thank you for your vote of confidence so our ports tomorrow are Cairns, Yorkey's Knob and Port Douglas in Queensland. They are all within 40 miles of each other. I hope lots of you come along for the ride😄😄
  24. Good morning posters and thank you Gettingwarmer for starting the thread which I have thoroughly enjoyed, not only because it made me look through my own pictures but also seeing those from the other posters. I don't mind continuing the 'Round the World. if no one else wants to take it on. My suggestion for tomorrow is the Cairns, Yorkey's Knob, Port Douglas area which are all cruise ship calls and quite close together....what do you think? We visited Brisbane in 2011, not long after the dreadful floods that did tremendous damage to the area. We were very impressed with the speed of the r
