  1. On the Jupiter from late Feb to early May. If you tested positive you would have to move to the quarantined section of the ship ( deck 3 forward) spouse could move with you and also be quarantined or go about daily shipboard life in their original cabin. This was after we stopped using our trackers. I am a bit vague about negative "contacts" while we were using trackers. Things may be different now.
  2. we had a fantastic guide in Amsterdam through Tours by Locals!
  3. I am not even sure I want to include Venice on my itinerary if it is going to be so difficult...reminds me of referring to LeHarve as Paris OR Warnemunde as Berlin. IMO not worth the bus or train ride for those cities, Although both ports have other delightful excursions offered!
  4. It was great to see Katy (she was on the Jupiter with us in February!!) Glad to see she has not shed her heels! Also, Wendy, a great GM whom we enjoyed on the Orion when we did the Panama Canal at Thanksgiving!! What an awesome cruise you have had!
  5. I bet the included SSP won't still be offered!
  6. we have been home from the wonderful Jupiter about 3 weeks and I have a serious case of land sickness...we saw the Octantis on her maiden voyage through the Great Lakes. She looked lovely! I miss so much about life aboard the Jupiter but none more than all the wonderful bartenders!
  7. Going on Polaris in December. New board would be fine.
  8. The CDC has updated its recommendations, stating that vaccinated travelers flying domestically do not need to get tested prior to travel. It's suggested that unvaccinated travelers flying within the U.S. should get tested one to three days prior to travel. Don't think you have to worry about Milwaukee or was it from Canada?
  9. Were Dave and Donna on the Inaugural World Cruise!!! I think Donna put together our cruise pre-book. If so Dee and Pat Clark say Hi!
  10. Dobie...that will be a great vacation!!!
  11. One of the other times Viking changed from Barcelona was because of civil unrest. Hope that is not the case. We enjoy Barcelona every time we are there!
  12. HAVE fun ....you have all been so Patient!!
  13. I felt much better while on the ship knowing that I could quarantine and be treated onboard if I tested positive rather than some of the horror stories about being forced to leave the ship and having to stay in substandard accommodations.
  14. We would too...NO plans yet other than Antarctica and the Douro River in fall of 2023. It probably won't be until 2024.
  15. on our last trip we needed many layering choices....we went from about 60degrees S to 60degrees N....bathing suits to boots and mittens! A rack with multiple hooks for over the bathroom door the perfect solution.! the wall was also covered with magnets and our suitcases doubled as sliding drawer under the bed. DVs do have limited storage but we had never needed so many differing clothes choices!
  16. if she is still testing positive and it has been 10 days but she is exhibiting no symptoms the ship's doc will write a letter that she is recovered and able to travel. At least that is what happened early May. Sure wish the USA would drop that requirement it adds such STRESS to the end of a trip!
  17. any recent experiences on the new ship? Some of the segments look very interesting but certainly do not want to be on a unreliable poorly built ship. Pre-covid we have done some great Vantage River trips (Mekong, Amazon, Irrawaddy each of these small ships were leased and lovely) but want to feel comfortable with the product before purchasing an Ocean experience.
  18. I think a small cruise ship would be amazing! We saw some and I remember commenting that it would have been a better choice. We did not disembark in Manaus we went back to San Juan. i do remember being told not to wander around Manaus by ourselves especially at night.
  19. That is where they were on the Jupiter from late Feb to early May while we were onboard!
  20. We would too...NO plans yet other than Antarctica and the Douro River in fall of 2023. It probably won't be until 2024. I wish it had more stops in Croatia. I am also wondering about "Venice" and the inability to dock close to the city. Was the end of your River Cruise any better than the beginning? I guess you don't want join us in Portugal. Glad you returned home safely without covid. Hope your Midnight Sun Cruise is great fun. Please give my best to Pam.
  21. We did this cruise in 2018. It was new so many things may have changed since then. I should have done more research so it was MY fault that I was disappointed in the itinerary not the ship or the staff.. We had done an Amazon River cruise in Peru from Iquitos on a small riverboat. We pulled along the side of the river at night. Explored villages and monkey islands...found sloths in trees and piranhas while fishing. We swam with the pink dolphins. Some of these experiences were available in Brazil but just not the same intimacy. We had a great time on the ship itself but the ports were not great. The excursions were good ...be prepared for 3rd world bus..ie not air-conditioning and maybe? the windows would open. The Carnival show at Parintins was great. Manaus was very interesting! We had to ration water while in the Amazon and could not do laundry although you could have it "done." It was only for a few days. The insects were amazing ....they covered deck two every morning and were enormous and so very different from each other. Moths the size of saucers! We had a great time just not what I had expected. Amazonas is huge and the cruise really did put that in perspective for me! The stop at Devil's Island supposedly needed a Yellow Fever vaccine, fortunately we had one for Africa, but NO ONEever checked.
  22. Thanks...you got us a great guide in the Amazon !!!!! We had a private guide in Amsterdam this Spring through tours by locals and she was fabulous. Have to figure out a time to schedule the cruise. glad you are doing well and back to traveling.
  23. Oneof the problem we encounter is if we book our next cruise while onboard we are often not home soon enough to purchase coverage for pre-existing conditions. We USAA and you must but the insurance soon after your initial payment. Fortunately we have never had to use the insurance!
  24. thanks for the report Istanbul is on our list of places to visit! Glad to hear Viking did a good job with the extension!
