  1. We're b3b on the Island Princess starting in May; are the saunas open to all passengers, or do you need a spa pass, please? Thank you.
  2. We consider ourselves lucky because we don't need the internet, we enjoy getting away from it on a cruise. As Elite, we used to get some time free, but Princess took that away, which makes us even less inclined to pay for it. Also we have enjoyed going to local libraries and stores that offer free internet. Cruising used to be so simple -- it was about the cruise and destinations -- not about all the "options", which many people, including Princess employees, have trouble following.
  3. OP, thanks for all the info. We will likely be aboard in three weeks. Any observations on Covid-related factors, e.g., masks, restrictions, quarantines, etc.? Thanks!
  4. Another downside of introducing a third party.
  5. Or maybe not. Whoever you ask at HAL may not be able or willing to share that information, and no matter what that person said, why would you believe it?
  6. Are you assuming that HAL would award these wait-listed $49/pp cabins on a first-come first-served basis? More likely HAL would choose passengers who are likely to spend the most onboard, based on factors like previous spend, gratuities, etc., and maybe even personal info like credit line, address, age, etc. They probably have algorithms for all this.
  7. We usually pay $50-$100pp per day (standard fare). So just eating at Alfredo's/Gigi's is a 15-30% increase. I was on Discovery and Majestic three times last year, usually went to Gigi's instead of the MDR, often lunch and dinner..
  8. Trophies should only go to those who pay extra for them?
  9. About half the time I end up going to guest service to let them know the machine is not working. I know a passenger who, in that case, unplugs the machine so lots of other passengers won't waste their precious vacation time waiting for the printout that never comes.
  10. Wow, I hadn't looked at a medallion thread since it was first introduced several years ago and I said then that the medallion was a solution in search of a problem. Now I see that the medallion is its own problem, and after all these years, it still can't fix itself.
  11. Maybe it will have a positive impact? How many weather tools (no offense, Mr. Van Fleet) does the captain need? Maybe that's why the captain drove the Allure into the hurricane -- he was too busy evaluating his tools instead of looking out the window, missed the forest for the trees. 'You don't need a weather man to tell which way the wind blows.' Window dressing. And as for cruise lines' concern about passenger safety: Have you been to a boat drill lately?
  12. Want fairness? Eliminate the sanctuary.
  13. Sorry, I wasn't addressing any question or argument, right or wrong. I wasn't trying to make any point. Just sharing.
  14. Wrong. I never said that, or even implied that. My statement wasn't an argument. I was just relating my experience. I didn't even think to say "your results may vary."
  15. Money is money. Tipping is between a man and his God. But seriously folks, I haven't googled the deuce, but growing up in Chicago in the middle of the last century, $2 bills were considered good luck and were known as "racetrack money." Some guys carried one around in their wallet for luck, along with a prominently displayed $20 for the traffic stop. I never had a problem using them. I have an uncut sheet I got from the mint (?) in DC. Try spending one of those!
  16. I always do that. Usually it works But on a Discovery cruise last month, I had booked my favorite cabin, B730, for quiet -- low, inside, aft-most, with cabins above and below. But it was only upon check-in that I was told I was in a different cabin. The new cabin was a balcony, but just off the piazza. An "upgrade" to Princess, but not to me. So I went to GS, calmly explained that I had booked my favorite cabin for its quiet, and I asked for my original cabin back. Not possible (as I later deduced --from the names on the cabin doors--because my original cabin had been given to a family group). I was told to wait in the new cabin until after sailaway, and GS would call me. After five hours of waiting, I finally went back to GS, and the same agent gave me a very nice mid-ship balcony with no other cruisers anywhere nearby. It was great.
  17. It's certainly not just RCI. With 70+ cruises, we have learned to not automatically believe anything the cruse lines tell us. Out approach is to ask four staff and then divide by five. šŸ¤—
  18. We had an NCL rep who consistently referred to our Adriatic cruise as our "Adirondack cruise." It's also amazing how many folks here misread info, and even after being corrected, continue to expound based on their erroneous understanding. Or is it me?
