  1. I could search and forward you those tours. However, they may not even be available now. In Svalbard/Longyearbyen it is a small, quaint town. It was an easy walk (20 minutes) to town. There is a museum at the University that is well worth it. We took an excursion "Svalbard in a nutshell" for $35pp. I found it on a website "Discover Svalbard" There were people from the cruise ship who paid $275. for the same tour! This tour included seeing the Global seed vault that was very interesting. Your not allowed to go inside, but make the walk and read the signs. If you enjoy beer, there is a brewery where you can enjoy a cold one at the most northern brewery in the World. Hope this helps, enjoy!
  2. On the right side. Excursions do add up for a large group. We came across many groups that opted to rent vehicles and said that was the way to go.
  3. Renting a van and driving yourselves might be your best bet for some of these ports.
  4. We've also been to Alaska. Norway and Iceland are like Alaska on steroids. Absolutely stunning. Splurge for a balcony. We spent two days in Tromso prior to departure. That is about all you need for Tromso. The winds can be high, so double check before you purchase tickets for the cable car. The Ice Bar was fun but we feel is a one and done. No need to go to another one. Walter & Leonard restaurant did a wonderful job with reindeer if you want to give it a try while there. The Clarion Roof top bar has a great view and cocktails. We were not big fans of Harstad, Hammerfest or Alta. Honningsvaag we took a tour with Blue Puffin tours and would definitely recommend them. Visiting the North Cape is a must while there. Svalbard is a must, especially due to their location. Their museum and all was about a 15-20 minute walk. We also took an excursion on our own called "Svalbard in a nut shell" that was very informative. It included seeing the exterior of the Global Seed Vault that is worth the walk up to. Akureyri, Iceland we took a tour w/Imagine Iceland Travel and recommend going to the Pseudo creator area along with the Euro-Asian Tectonic Plate. Isafjordur we took a tour to explore waterfalls. In Reykjavik, we took the HOHO bus and spent time at the Perlan museum.
  5. We visited the Arctic circle earlier this year. So grateful we did, it was amazing. We enjoyed the history, scenery and the people. Most people aren't in a position to go more than once in their lives. If that's the case, I would bundle and enjoy yourselves.
  6. We took this cruise earlier this year, it was amazing! We booked all of our excursions ourselves, it was much more economical than going thru NCL. You'll find Iceland and Norway are both very expensive. So now is a good time to start planning. Make sure to read the cancelation policy of the company you book with. There are many options that do allow you up to 24 hours to cancel. NCL does not allow you the option of choosing your flights. Note, you may need to pay additional for baggage depending on the airline they use, i.e. SAS? We did have the ability to extend both our arrival and departure by a few days, which I highly recommend. Enjoy and safe travels.
  7. While we were in port, we took the quick bus shuttle into Zeebruge. From there, it was an easy walk into the adorable cobblestoned village. You can easily make a day out of that. Take the boat ride around the village, enjoy the amazing french fries, chocolate, shops and friendly people.
  8. How exciting and what an opportunity for your family. We traveled with our young kids and had a wonderful time. NCL offered many kids programs to the point we didn't see them during the day when at sea. We would engage our kids for any trip by having them research where we were to travel. At that age, I suggest.... Trolls; elves; fairies; horses; reindeer; the 13 Yule Lads (Iceland version of Santa); King crabs......... to name a few. Safe travels.
  9. We were there last month, it's incredibly beautiful. Pack pants that are water resistant if going to any waterfalls as there is a fine mist in the air. Typically these type of pants are also good to protect you from the wind too. Pack insulated pants, they may come in handy on the evenings or on a dry windy day. Also pack a hat, scarf and gloves. Safe travels.
  10. They had a free shuttle that took us to Bus stop #5 in front of The Edition hotel. From there you can walk into town.
  11. All great advise. Yes, it is quite expensive in Iceland and Norway. We stayed at The Edition, it is a Marriott property. The bus station was right outside. Marriott also partners with Viator to set up tours. Enjoy, we would go back. There is also a Hop on Hop Off bus that is great to explore Reykjavik for the day.
  12. It might be just what you need as you are on a bus for a good part of the time to allow for naps in between stops.
  13. We were there a few weeks ago. You may want to look into a bus shuttle, they are much more economical unless you have a large group. You may also want to reach out to your hotel. We stayed at The Edition where there was a bus stop right outside, super convenient. While at the KEF airport, you may want to visit the Blue Lagoon while you are so close. They have a shuttle that picks you up from the airport, you pay to store your suitcases and then they can bring you close to your hotel. Enjoy, Iceland is fantastic!
  14. Correct, I did confuse the two. Thanks for clarifying. South Coast tour was exceptional.
  15. Suggestion: Sky Lagoon has it's own transportation or take the Grey Line bus. Either should be able to pick you up from the airport. The Sky Lagoon offers storage of your bags for a minimal fee. Then take the bus back to your hotel or a nearby bus stop. SL is closest to the airport, so I would go there first.
  16. I believe the ship provided a shuttle into town for $20 r/t. Definitely go to the Cathedral, they have a great movie about the Northern Lights. The Cathedral is at one end of the town on a main street, walk towards the Salmon fishing museum and across the street is a hotel that is known for their chocolates.
  17. Truly a gift from God with no guarantee you will see them. Best chance would be to seek out a tour guide. Do your homework and research your options, along with reviews. We just got back yesterday to experience the 24 sun and enjoyed it. There are many museums, a church and planetariums that offer videos, not the same but might be the closest you get to them. The Arctic is truly an amazing place to visit.
  18. You may also want to reach out to your hotel and ask them.
  19. Ask your hotel what time they suggest getting picked up.
  20. Sunscreen should be applied daily is our dermatologists recommendation regardless if it's sunny out or not. In an efforts to save room in our bags, we buy essentials like this while in port.
  21. Being a horse enthusiast was trying to put together a Fjord and Icelandic Pony ride(s) This was the only place I found that would pick you up in town. Happy trails. https://bustravel.is/tour/red-lava-horse-riding-tour/11737
  22. Which ever tour group you go with, check the cancelation policy. Some you need to cancel 14 days out. We have worked with Marriott and Viator and had great experiences. There are many to choose from, What's in Port is a great way to begin your search too.
  23. They typically have a set route. You should be able to go onto their website to pull up their map.
  24. Hi Coco, In all of our travels over the years, we've never run into an issue of not being able to find a bathroom in time. Just plan accordingly every what, 2-4 hours? If you have tours planned, reach out to your tour guide. If noodling around town, you've got ample time to Google Earth and plan your route out now. Hope that helps.
