I was wondering if this was from extraordinary rainfall, or unusual glacial melt. They are saying it was 3 feet above the record high water mark. 😞

We carry on a backpack/beach bag with our swimwear in it. Tradition is to be in the pool with the first frozen drink before we set sail.

That is my question. That video of the flooded crew hallway looks like there is a broken door or something. It would be interesting to know where that was.

If you were a new cruiser, how would you know there was no danger? If the conditions on board were bad enough that many people seem to have been awake, they could have made a bridge announcement. They certainly could have acknowledged that it happened during morning announcements. Communication could have avoided a lot of this.

I imagine it was a lot of work for the crew, especially room stewards. They person who was on board talked about broken glass in her cabin and hers was probably not the only one. But they DID manage to leave that day, so it was cosmetic, not structural.

I just saw the report on the evening news. While they showed the previously mentioned flooded halls in the crew areas, there was some man sloshing around in a hallway with the passenger area carpets.

On other cruise lines, you can use your onboard credit in the casino.....then cash out. Is that possible on Holland?

We did splurge for the balcony. 🙂 We did Alaska in May, and layers definitely helped, with a windbreaker on top. I'm hoping their naturalist on board is as good as the one we had in Alaska.

I was thinking on board ship. I'm not wasting my shore time by going to a beach to swim. I have penguins to see! 🙂

Next question: is there any point to bringing swimwear? 🙂

Thank you all! We have booked a starboard-side verandah cabin on Deck 4. This is going to be amazing!

Did anyone rent a cabana in The Retreat? We did for the week in Alaska, and it was fabulous. It's obviously prohibitive for 22 days, but a day rental is an idea for some of the scenic areas.

We are looking at the 22 day South America and Antarctica for either Dec. 2023, or December 2024. Question: would we get much use from a verandah cabin? We did fine with one in Alaska, but I don't know if this will be markedly cooler. Thanks.
