  1. the unexpected---we once go lost in Santorini. We stumbled upon a museum in a cave. We took the tour in English for us and Greek for the other couple there. Afterwards, we showed the guide out map from HAL, and asked where we were on the map. He said we were off the map, and asked if we had a car. When we did not, he tried unsuccessfully to get us a cab. When that did not work, he show us shortcut back to the area in the map. You never know what you will stumble across no matter how much planning you do.
  2. Yes, i wanted to cry in episode 7 (out of 😎 when the family was captured, even though I knew that that was going to happen.
  3. Yes, why I am resisting. I know my late mother not only hated her hearing aids, but also the person in charge where she bought them.
  4. I don't think anyone doubts you and thinks you made this up.
  5. Either way she would have just missed at age 69. The day after your 70th birthdsy, are you 70 + 1 day, older than 70?
  6. Favorite port-St. Petersburg, but unfortunately, no one is going there any time soon or possibly ever again. So, for ports that still exist, going to Florence (though that is not actually the port). Favorite ship--the very, very small Ocean Princess. Again, no longer a ship, or at least one in the Princess line. If I have to post an NCL ship, I hope after next month, I can say Prima. Favorite cabin was on a Carnival ship where we ended up on the Lido deck after 2 upgrades. DW is a swimmer and loved being so near to the pool.
  7. The Van Gogh Museum and the Rijksmuseum are also fantastic. BTW, if you have on demand and the National Geographic Channel, be sure to watch A Small Light. It is about the Frank family and the people who hid them.
  8. Yes, same here. DW says I am deaf, but I have so far resisted getting a hearing aid. She recently retired as an elementary art teacher. I am sure that we all remember teachers who in front of the classroom with their back turned could hear us whispering in the back.
  9. Yes, 70 sounds right. I remember needing it for DW if they had not postponed again. She is 69.
  10. Is it still free above a certain age as it was before? I don't remember the specific age except it was around 70. I remember that because ff it was needed this year, I would qualify as free, but DW was just missing the age for free.
  11. These are all horrific, and Princess deserves to lose bookings over them. I just also want to say not all corporations are like this. I went to pick up meds for my wife and she was told they was a co-pay of $37.99 when according to the information sent by the insurance company it should only have been $5. The pharmacy explained the problem and said to call the insurance company to straighten it out. I called and the hold was very short. The rep said it could be fixed, and she would take care of it. I mentioned the refill was needed by Friday. She said it would be taken care of that day or the latest the next day (today), and that she would call us and the pharmacy when it was straightened out. She called a few hours later. Now that's customer service!
  12. Thanks, I knew it existed, but did not know the name of the law.
  13. The event not mentioned is probably the Fringe Festival. At least it used to be at that time of the year pre-Covid. And yes, we have found Edinburgh to be walkable.
  14. Wow talk about misinformation from the cruise agent!!!! First, it is not the Jones Act, as that applies to cargo ships. Second, and maybe even more importantly, it is a US law which would not apply to a cruise passenger boarding and disembarking in Canada. But, Canada might have a similar law that would not allow this, but that still would not excuse how much disinformation the cruise agent told you.
  15. Yup, why we took neither. I don't drink enough to make the "free" package worthwhile and DW is not supposed to drink at all because it is contraindicated for a med she takes. As for the specialty restaurants, we can do without them. In fact, DW prefers the buffet because she likes to make her own salads, plus she gets tired of people waiting on her and fancy food. In fact, near the end of our very first cruise, she said she just wanted peanut butter and jelly.
  16. The "free" drinks on NCL cost the amount of tips you would have to pay if you drank the maximum amount of "free" drinks allowed. Similarly the "free" dining costs you tips even if you do not use all of them. And the "free" excursions are $50 off the first guest only.
  17. Some cruise lines have group trivia. Actually, on one of our Carnival cruises the person in charge had us do a series of 4 that was an exceptionally large grouping, the men against the women. We, the men, won all 4 much to the chagrin of the fun squad member in charge who said he had never had one side win all 4.
  18. The biggest argument I ever remember between the contestants and the person running the trivia was on a Holland America ship. The answer most of us gave was Holland. We were told wrong, the answer is the Netherlands as Holland is only a province. We all argued back asking if the cruise line we were sailing on was called Netherlands America Line. He gave in accepting both as a correct answer.
  19. My intention was to put out information, nothing else.
  20. Actually, there is a very good comment in the following thread on the Holland America boards from someone who has had dealings with this type of issue. IIRC, it is #7.
  21. I always feel I have a chance to win, but I guess I would feel differently if I saw a team using phones to cheat.
  22. They should have given him a ship on the stick made of real gold. 😊
  23. But according to this article, they have lost their certification. Faulty Safety Materials May Put Dozens of Cruise Ships at Risk (cruisehive.com)
