Cool Cruiser (2/15)

  1. When we were on Arvia earlier this year we couldn't use WeChat social media and reception told us p and o didn't allow it. We are on Azura next month, does anyone know if WeChat is still blocked?
  2. I always take a pair of chinos just for the evening meals. Why risk being refused entry?
  3. Agree. we had some onboard credit which we struggled to spend. No swimwear, no polo or tee shirts. There were Viking jackets (not waterproof!) and zip-up cardigans, slippers, and very little else clothes-wise. We ended up buying bathrobes and whisky just to use up the OBC.
  4. I have to hold my hand up to wearing jeans to all meals on my last Viking trip. I had packed a pair of navy blue chinos to wear at meals but when I unpacked my suitcase I had taken chino shorts instead of full length trousers by mistake. I explained this to the Viking restaurant manager and they accepted my jeans (which were a very expensive, brand new pair so at least looked fairly smart) I have to add, I would have bought a pair of chinos on board but there were none available, very disappointed with the clothing choice on Viking Ocean ship tbh
  5. With painted toenails and hairless legs? I very much doubt it!
  6. Agree fully, each to their own. I have found that the need for a balcony is less for me on certain cruise lines. For example, on River Cruises I find the lack of privacy due to proximity of pedestrians etc meant we had the curtains drawn a lot of the time. And on Oceania the pool areas where so underused that I would seriously give some thought to not booking a balcony but using the pool area instead.
  7. Our Evri driver is hopeless. She often leaves parcels on the doorstep without ringing the bell to see if we are in. I was looking out the front window last week and saw her do it, so opened the doors and asked why she hadnt rung. She said she had, so I told her I watched. She then said it wasnt working so I rung it. Surprise, surprise it went 'Dong dong' when I did it. Just bone idle
  8. Im getting a bit fed up with P&O. I have a cruise booked and have a couple of questions for them. They never reply to emails/site posts. I rang them last week, got a message saying calls were taking over 15 minutes to answer - I waited 25 and gave up. Just tried again, now theyre advising over 30 minutes wait. If they are this busy, they ought to get more staff on the phones. Ive always liked P&O, but if things dont improve then this might be my last cruise with them.
  9. What entertainment did they offer on your world cruise? I wouldnt have expected that much difference since the various sectors of the world cruise are also sold as regular short cruises as well.
  10. Hi, just returned from my first Viking Ocean cruise after having done 2 river cruises. There are a lot of similarities, and if you enjoyed one I think you will enjoy the other. Dining choices are better on Ocean cruises and, in my opinion, the entertainment on the Ocean cruise was disappointing. The ship design and layout is great, it was almost like having a number of very large living rooms, not vast open spaces like on some cruise lines. Not much in the way of shopping. We had some cruise credit and struggled to spend it - I would have liked some new swimwear and a polo shirt but it wasnt to be. The sauna/wet bucket/steam rooms are great, really enjoyed them.
  11. We're in the UK and we prefer eating at 6pm. Continental Europe tends to favour later meals, particularly the southern, warmer countries. Not sure how much, if any, marketing Viking do there. I've only ever heard UK and US/Canadian voices on my Viking trips.
  12. We've done 2 Viking river cruises and are taking our 1st Viking ocean cruise in 3 weeks, so I'll drop a post here to give you my thoughts. I have looked at a lot of YouTube videos on it and it looks amazing. We're using Viking Sky but all their ocean ships are identical
  13. Weve used both WhatsApp and WeChat to make free calls and video calls to family. Just make sure they have the app downloaded as well
  14. I spoke to Viking on Monday, our cruise is in 3 weeks. They release some 2 table settings when they email guests that dining is open. They will then release more approx 2 weeks before sailing, and more the following week. They also told me that we can always reserve a 2 table setting when we board. I have no issues with this, have used them before and they were good to their word. I dont understand why a group of 4 people cant reserve tables in advance, I would have thought that option would always be open. Likewise with excursions, they release more availability as sailing day approaches (I know this and actually changed 2 of my bookings) and will do their best to switch anyone who arrives on board with excursions booked that they would prefer different times on.
