  1. Sorry i don’t think this affected norwegian or you would have heard about it. There was a rock slide in skagway and it affected one of the docks and meant one less large ship could dock. I think it was quantum of the seas. People were really upset. They felt rci knew this probably was going to happen as dock was damaged and should have informed before final payment. I’m not sure norwegian has large ships in alaska. I believe the ship went to icy strait point instead but people really love the train in skagway.
  2. Is there any shared dining now there is only my time dining offered?
  3. Has anyone gone on princess as a solo recently? Are there any solo activities? Is there shared dining now there is only my time dining? I found a good deal for a caribbean cruise. I’m debating between a cruise on caribbean princess or norwegian encore.
  4. Just wondering if more people have seen more cancellations, specifically dominican republic? I’m looking at a cruise that includes puerta plata - cruise is offered 2024-2025 so one would think they wouldn’t cancel. I was thinking of booking in 25 to take advantage of a promo but may not be a good idea if they cancel ports. On the topic of alaska, a lot of people were disappointed skagway was cancelled as they weren’t notified before final payment.
  5. Thanks both. I do find the thread on missed ports very concerning. Really i consider it 3 ports as i’m not that interested in stirrup cay. Good to know they are pushy in puerta plata. May be best to take a ship excursion there.
  6. I’m interested in a norwegian encore cruise that goes to puerta plata, st thomas, tortola and stirrup cay. I’ll probably get in trouble for posting here but the itineraries for the cruises are really cruise line specific. For me, i’m not really a beach person so i’m wondering how these ports are for sightseeing. Tortola seems good as i saw you can take a sightseeing tour around the island. It sounds pretty. Norwegian encore seems to get quite good reviews but i’ve only been on smaller ships-brilliance of the seas and noordam. Also never sailed on norwegian before. I’m excited for the studio lounge but i hear they nickle and dime you on Norwegian. Anything else i should consider?
  7. Thanks. The price its quoting me is 422.00 for vancouver to miami. If i booked my own it would be 500.00 or more than that amount.
  8. Thanks both. When do you know the airfare arrangements? Do you know before final payment?
  9. Looking at booking a 2025 cruise now to take advantage of a canadian amex promo stacked with cruisefirst. I’d like to know if the quoted airfare price would stay the same even though the flight date is so far away? I just read a great 2022 thread on norwegian airfare but if you have any recent experiences with airfare please feel free to share. As a solo i get 50% off airfare and that is a good deal, on the other hand the direct flight from vancouver to miami looks awfully convenient.
  10. I realize this is an old post but i am considering going to tortola and would be interested in this as well. The open air bus tour mentioned in another post did sound nice.
  11. Sorry you were made fun of. I had a positive experience as a solo on holland america. No one singled me out for being solo.
  12. Thank you for the responses and snoozecrooze for posting that thread. It seems responses are generally positive but i am concerned about reports of air conditioning and plumbing issues as well as the speed at which princess responds to them.
  13. I got a good deal for a caribbean cruise that goes to San Juan, Princess Cays, Amber Cover and Grand Turks. However, because i am paying airfare from Vancouver too i want to be sure its worthwhile for the money. Recent reviews on cruise critic weren't great for the caribbean princess. How has people's experience been? I prefer to just walk around town then go to beaches. I thought San Juan and Puerta Plata were good places to go but i'm not sure what is at Grand Turks. Someone complained the princess cays you had to take a boat there? Thanks for sharing your experience.
  14. Sttill my point to my point person at hal was that i would pay extra for a cruise with lincoln centre stage. HAL seems more expensive and they should do something to justify the price.
  15. Not to hyjack the thread but i'm interested if there is anything thing else to Grand Turk other than go to the beaches. Is it a nice town?
  16. Although i last cruised HAL in 2019 i had a great experience with their shared tables at MTD. For me having some interaction at dinner was enough.
  17. Here's my tracy arm photo sideways. I can't seem to get it to go not upside down.
  18. Also i had no annoying people at my tables so i must have been lucky.
  19. When i was on holland america in 2019 they had shared dining with my time dining. The advantage of this is if you didn't like your table mates, there was someone else tomorrow. I was disappointed rcl didn't have this but you are right my dinners were quick.
  20. I just went on my cruise and had a good time. Unfortunately, though, i discovered for my time dining there isn't shared dining. You need to do traditional dining for that. I found sitting at a window helped. Definitely join the facebook group for your cruise as there is a slot pull and pub crawl if someone organizes it. I went on the pub crawl and enjoyed meeting people.
  21. In 2019 when i went on an alaskan cruise i went to mytime dining and had shared dining every night no problem. I'm wondering if with holland america there is shared dining with my time dining. Or is it only available with traditional dining? Or is shared dining even available anymore?
  22. I think you were on the cruise before this june 25 week so interesting it was foggy for hubbard glacier too that week. I also really enjoyed the inside passage where it was sunny on day 7. I sat on the pool deck along time and went out on promenade deck. Ketchikan was also nice. I'm on a different computer and it is still showing pictures upside down i don't understand it.
  23. On my recent brilliance of the seas cruise, i was dismayed that for my time dining there was no shared tables available. The attendant person said that people wanted there own tables. Is this still available on other ships or only with traditional dining? Or is this a casualty of covid? I'm a solo diner so i really enjoy the shared tables.
  24. I emailed my cruise consultant and will post his response. Basically i said i'm less likely to book without lincoln center stage there as there is then not as much to differentiate HAL from other cruise lines. Also, it seems like Holland America is more expensive and now there is less to justify that. Also that highlight of my alaskan cruise. I don't have a lot of pull though as i haven't booked a lot of cruises.
