  1. Last year on our Viking Tulips cruise, the disembarkation port was changed last minute from Amsterdam to Rotterdam. Viking provided busses for those who had plans to remain in Amsterdam on their own and bussed those who were flying home to the airport which is about the same ride as from Amsterdam.
  2. My Viking Journey will tell you that (under Manage My Air). My experience is that it could be a little earlier. We are MileagePlus members and almost always get United without having to pay extra for Air+. If you check the United app now, you might see your flights there under “Trips”. When your flights show up on MVJ, you will have an option to change your flights. Otherwise, as Jazzbeau says, you can contact Air+ now, pay$150pp, and pick your flights. You can also request early ticketing, but be warned you’ll be responsible for a hefty fee if you need to change or cancel. On our recent cruise to Iceland, we waited until flights were posted on MVJ knowing we weren’t assigned United as it didn’t show up on the United app. When announced, we traded the assigned Icelandic Air for United flights both ways for an additional $74pp.
  3. Greetings neighbor - we live in East Brunswick and have taken 13 Viking cruises (both river and ocean) with 4 more booked. All have been from EWR - never have we been diverted to LGA or JFK. Many of these cruises included free or greatly reduced air. I can’t speak for NCL but we always use Viking Air. Only once we didn’t like the flights, so we paid for Air+ (#150pp) and got much better flights. If you use Air+, you can ticket early but will be responsible if you change the flights.
  4. John - EVERYTHING you say is explained by actions taken by Turkish Air as explained by Mikey. Viking can't fully control the airlines - and you can’t either. You are insisting that Viking never reserved your seats. Then how did the website initially show the reserved seats? Obviously Turkish Air changed them, but you insist it had to be Viking and they had the power to change your seats. We have had issues with strikes, delayed flights, and delayed disembarkation and Viking always did their best make things better. Folks here in this forum try to help by sharing our knowledge and experiences. If you think we’re fools, I suggest staying away from Viking - and our forum.
  5. Not true at all. Try price & build on a Med cruise first using Newark airport (EWR) then Albany airport (ALB) for the same cruise. At least $100 more pp for Albany. Also true for other destinations - maybe all. These airports are less than 4 hours from each other.
  6. Good point. We were in Algiers in 2019. We didn’t need a visa either, but we needed to stay with the group. Our passports were collected and return when we boarded after the excursion. Our bus was always in the sights of a police car too.
  7. I did this but there was a legitimate concern. We had booked an evening boat ride rated Easy. At the port talk, we found out that the ship was docking at a different port meaning we would need to walk a mile+ each way from the ship to the tour boat negating the Easy rating. Guest services needed an okay before we were granted the refund.
  8. If you were not made aware of these changes before you booked, I would call Customer Relations and respectfully request SBC as you are missing 2 ports and included excursions.
  9. When my Viking agent does any changes, etc. he sends a revised booking document. I assume you received one when you used the double discount. That document will have the PIF.
  10. My agent indicated he could give the promo to anyone who meets the 14 day requirement. In most - maybe all - cases, this is a better deal than booking with the agent on the ship. The SBC can be used for excursions, SSBP,, etc. on your new cruise(s).
  11. I have written here in the past about Viking’s Welcome Back program which provides $200pp SBC on all new cruises booked within 14 days of disembarkation. I just returned from a cruise Saturday and heard today from my Viking agent that the credit is currently $300pp SBC. This in addition to $200pp Explorer’s discount and any other promo code and vouchers purchased on Viking River cruises.
  12. Just got back from Iceland’s Natural Beauty. We received a free upgrade from a DV4 to a PV1 4 days before embarkation - no choice. Received a revised booking document, so we changed the cabin number on our tags with a Sharpie and had no issues. We usually book cabins near the rear elevators so we were fine with 6077. We also had the good side for scenery - but it rained every day and we didn’t see the sun until we disembarked in Reykjavik. The extra room was nice, and would gladly take a similar upgrade if offered again - but I wouldn’t pay for the difference.
  13. I n think it is, but not 100% sure.
  14. That’s part of it - but I’ve had bagels in other parts of the US that run rings around Viking.
  15. More power to you! The Viking email addresses for myself and my wife get no special offers. I got the idea to use a different email address from Clay.

  17. If you take a galley tour, you will see all the bread is baked on board - including those awful bagels.
  18. She uses a different email that never had business with Viking. I get them too but FF usually beats me to posting them here.
  19. I’m a born in New York City guy - and I totally agree with you.
  20. Re: 4 day sale. If you choose river cruises, then Treasures of the Rhine, you are sent to the Canadian site even though the URL reads as the US site. This isn’t the case for other river cruises.
  21. May I ask which lines you’re referring to?
  22. A related question for those who have visited Iceland - would we need Icelandic change for toilets?
  23. My wife and I always play trivia - especially during sea days. Usually they use the Star theater, but when they have it lunchtime in the Explorer’s lounge, we make sure to get there as early as possible as it can get crowded. There are many movable chairs so what you experienced is inexcusable. We have done 12 Viking ocean and river cruises and never experienced any guest demanding anything. I chalk that up to less guests rather than the cruise company.
  24. I went on one Princess cruise in 2016. I was holding my wife’s seat for a small show while she went to the ladies room when a very drunk woman wanted that seat (there were others available nearby). We just left the scene she was creating - and have cruised Viking ocean and river exclusively since then. Your mom will be fine.
  25. We travelled from Barcelona to Bergen.
