  1. No, we did the one through RCCL and it was great! Nearly 30 minutes from port, place was See Thru kayaks. Much easier with RCCL supplying transportation. Guide was wonderful and we had plenty of time.
  2. A few years ago, we were at Coco Cay March 29. It was sunny and high seventies, so that was fine for us. Chilly when you were wet, but we live in the mountains of Western PA so it's subjective.
  3. Does anyone that has sailed recently know if the milk in the buffet is in cartons or pitchers? We are sailing on Vision this week. Last year in November CCL switched to pitchers and it was a mess. We like to bring the cartons back for a snack or excursions. Staff was unsure, and some pax on Harmony recently had cartons. In the late autumn, there was a general shortage for milk in small cartons (in schools) as only two places manufactured them, or something like that. So Jerry thought it was part of the reason; there was even a shortage at our grocery store.
  4. Apologies for not understanding this reply, as everyone is just so friendly and helpful here. I must have missed the "derogatory" post. The only "terd" I could find was an acronym for a computer system.
  5. Always learning! That is very reasonable. Yeah, we bring the ship's towels. Thanks again!
  6. That is incerdibly helpful - cruisers are the best! Just the info that I needed. Thanks for the reply - not sure what the "ew' meant. We do try to do things on our own to be on our own schedule. Jerry and I always pack some protein bars for a meal. It saves money and time. One is not to bring unsealed food from the ship, as other countries are concerned with possible contamination (bugs, etc.) from food. If it is found or in areas with dogssniffing the pax, you will be forced to discard it. I have seen it happen. Joy
  7. Following - Jerry and I will be there at the end of March for the first time. I noticed that SEG and Shore Excursioneer do not have any tours listed. So perhaps they all have to go through the cruise line when in port? We were interested in the kayaking tour by RCCL if we cannot get anything on our own.
  8. Jerry and I will be there March 28. We did Captain Bob's Speedboat tour several weeks ago and was wondering about doing the Flying Dutchman, etc. on our own. It is only about 5 km from the port, and I was wondering if anyone has done this. RCCL does not have an excursion there. I don't know how crowded it will be, as we are on Vision of the Seas, and there is only one other ship in port then, Viking Sea. Other private tours do not pick up at the port, and I don't want to have to worry about getting transportation there by a certain time. So we thought we could do it on our own schedule, if one does not need advance reservations. Any experiences/thoughts/suggestions greatly appreciated. TIA. Joy
  9. Jerry and I are going March 28, and have done a tour of the island on a previous visit. Does anyone have experience with snorkeling on your own, ship's excursion (RCCL), or other private tours for this? We are interested in the turtles and the shipwreck. TIA.
  10. Yeah, all the other cabins on CCL, RCI and Princess had them in various room types.
  11. We have cruised on different lines, and enjoy several. Even though we loved all that RCI had to offer, our interior room seemed much smaller than CCL, which I know has slightly bigger rooms. (We like the dark and quiet on an interior.) On RCI, the bed was butt up against the wall on one side, and I had to slide to the foot to get out of bed. Not having the cooler/fridge (not a real cold unit, I know) in an interior was a PITA. They have them on CCL on interior rooms. On RCI, what is the lowest category of room that comes standard with mini bar fridge? Anything below balcony? TIA.
  12. I was there twice and traffic was awful. That was in late September.
  13. De Palm tours has emailed me that due to their contract with the cruise line, only tours through them will be offered to cruise pax.
  14. Following. Cruising there in November. Approximately how much are the tours?
  15. Apologies for the error that read NS - it should have read NL. Does anyone know where the tender drops us off?
  16. Does anyone know if the St Anthony, NS - Santana (Daredevil) Trail is walkable from the cruise port? That is, can we get there by walking or public? How far is the base form the cruise port? The ship has an excursion, but we would prefer to explore on our own. Any input greatly appreciated. TIA.
  17. Thank you - we really enjoy fortresses and loved the Citadel in Halifax. The tour group suggested has to have a minimum number of participants, as many do. Prior to COVID, at many ports, tours would be sold by locals upon exiting the gates. In a city like Boston where we could take public trans anywhere, we would venture out on our own. CCL has a tour that includes the fort, albeit a much shorter time there than we would like. Whatever the recommended time for a site is, we double it! Although on some of the other CCL cruises, we had some excellent tours that were not rushed and had small groups in Bermuda and others. I just love Canada (and many of your TV series!). Most of it is not very touristy and the citizens are so polite and helpful.
  18. Thanks for the info - I realize they are in opposite directions.
  19. We are going there on the Greenland CCL Journeys in August. Jerry and I just prefer to do one thing well. Would love to see the fortress of the Bell museum. Ships tours are overcrowded and a lot of waiting. Shoreexcursioneer and Shoreexcursionsgroup had nothing. Any recommendations? We do not want to rent a car.
  20. Hope everyone is feeling better soon. Jerry and I live a pretty isolated life, masking up at stores. Vax x 5, healthy and athletic. Haven't had a cold for decades. We did four cruise this year. First in March, 65% capacity. Wore masks indoors off the ship and stayed away from other on ship, sanitized on ship, no masks. Shows not crowded. Crew served food in buffet. Second cruise in May 75% capacity, we did not mask on ship, but off ship indoors we did. I felt symptomatic on the way home, had the equivalent of a bad cold and fatigue. Jerry got it from me at home and had a slight cold a few days. Cruises 3 and 4 in Sept/Oct (B2) we were one of the few that wore masks indoors at all times, on and off ship. Stayed healthy that time. We are retired docs, and I see other physicians in stores, etc. unmasked. For us, masking most places is a small inconvenience, but I can sympathize that one that might have to wear it all day and shun all socialization may feel differently. Sadly, COVID is here to stay for the foreseeable future, and it doesn't seem to affect all equally. At the grocery yesterday, I ran into a former (unmasked) patient who was concerned about traveling b/c his wife is diabetic, got COVID at church, and had a lot of problems. He is worried about his brother, in his late eighties, multiple health problems, who has never stopped socializing and never wore a mask. He got vaxed, but no other precautions. I certainly want to protect others, but I have to admit, if I were his age and had health issues I would just want to enjoy the time I had left and not be a recluse. It seems like we just have to decide the best way to take precautions for our situation without having life come to a standstill. If I want to cruise, or do any other optional activity, I am happy to follow the rules they have.
  21. Limiting it to one ship seems to be a more practical idea. I realize that many cruise ship pax don't go to Acadia like Jerry and I did. The day we were there, Enchantment of the Seas was the only ship there, which is not a large ship. Many did not disembark. Perhaps my experience was not typical, but BH was so packed that there was no way it was from the cruise ship pax. Bumper to bumper cars on the streets.
