  1. Ohhhhhh, this is too rich. I signed out of her to get ready to go for my daily walk. Before I got up to get ready I did a final check of my email. Well, two emails from Royal. 1. Wanting me to rate my experience with the sails agent (a survey) that I had Wednesday and purchased my October cruise and 2. An email with an update on the construction of the Icon of the Seas along with the usual phone number and website address to make reservations. Needless to say, I gave them some stuff about their IT. However, I rated the sails agent highly.
  2. I never said Guy's didn't have Fries, Chili or onion rings. My point is that JRs has all the above and more. As I remember it, Guy's wasn't open everyday either. That was a long time ago and my memory may be flawed. Also, Carnival's own website only says that Guy's is open for lunch: And as far as being a superior hamburger, as you stated, IYourHO
  3. Technically true. However, there are only two locations in the U.S.A. other than boarding a Carnival Cruise ship. And about ~ 7 other locations throughout the world. https://www.guyfieri.com/eat-at-guys/guys-burger-joint On the other hand, Johnny Rocket's is like a true chain, all over the place. Type in just about any major city in the U.S.A. and you're likely to find at least one. They are also international. https://locations.johnnyrockets.com/ I'm a big fan of JRs and really don't care much for Guy's. Guy's hamburgers are good, but, in my opinion, not as good as JRs. Also, at least on Royal's ships that have it, JRs is a sit down restaurant not buffet style, has great milkshakes, most other soft drinks, is open most of the day, not just for lunch like Guy's, and has fries, tots, onion rings, chili cheese fries (my favorite) and so much more. I'll pay the upcharge. As usual, YMMV and JMHO
  4. Well, let's see, what year is this again..........................
  5. It's a crap shoot. If you don't check-in when it is available, the website may not be working when you want to/need to. I'm sure glad that the actual ship experience is a lot better than the Landside experience. IT management needs to be fired, and the whole IT system needs to be reworked/replaced. As much as I dislike Carnival and will never cruise them again, I don't remember having this many IT problems with them.
  6. Yep. Mine, after the little logo goes around and around for several minutes, has a pop-up window that says, "Sorry but we are incompetent and you'll need to try again later" or word to that effect.
  7. I can't even get the app to sign-in let alone get to the "Check-In" tab.
  8. It seems to be going from bad to worse! Unbelievable!!!!!!
  9. For more information and comments, see the other two threads about this issue. No, this isn't a criticism of the start of this thread, not at all. It's just that there is a lot of other comments there and many folks will not take the time to repeat their posts in this thread.
  10. Royal needs to fire their IT Department's Director(s) and Managers. Incompetence comes to mind. This makes me wonder, if we were supposed to be checking-in this morning, would their check-in system be working (I'm talking at the port/terminal physical check-in), or would they hold up boarding until the system comes back up again? I kinda think that the terminal check-in process is linked into the ship's system and the upcoming manifest and related information has already been downloaded into the ship's system and may not be effected by the mother ship's crappy system. But, I didn't stay in a Holiday Inn Express last night.
  11. 😒 I had a total right knee replacement about >3 years ago. Man am I ever happy with that, had it done at the Indianapolis VA hospital. Subsequently, because of my good experience with it and my recommendation to have it done, my wife and my old Army buddy had it done too. They both regret it. I'll never recommend a medical procedure to anybody ever again. Anyway, I walk a lot and do a lot of physical labor around the house. I cut the lawn, about one acre, some if it with a push mower, every 3 or 4 days. Chop wood to thin out the wood/forest behind my home, I don't own it. All of this activity makes my knee keep from stiffening up and the pain level down to zero. I can tell when I get lazy and don't do my walking and/or labor, my knee starts to hurt real bad if I sit too long in one position, like at the dinner table or waiting room.
  12. Precisely why I tip a little extra above and beyond the 18% on the bar bill for above and beyond service and at the MDR or Windjammer table. They remember me and my party and provide, USUALLY, very very good service from that point on. Those that don't provide the above and beyond service get squat, extra. Quick story: On my last cruise on the Ovation, the first evening of the cruise I went to the Casino bar. Ordered a Screwdriver, gave the bartender my card, she returned it, and thanked me by my first name. I left her a $2.00 tip and from there on when she saw me, even if I was just walking by the bar she always yelled (at a reasonable level), "HELLO JAY". Whenever I went up to the bar, she was immediately there and asked if I wanted another Screwdriver. She was amazing, she always got a $2.00 extra tip and the night before debarkation, I walked by the bar and gave her a $10.00 bill, for nothing. She almost cried. She probably earned an extra $30.00 to $40.00 that cruise just from me. BTW, I try to get and carry up to $200.00 in 2 dollar bills just for tipping ship's crew a little at at time.
  13. Oooooookaaaaaaay! But, if people are paying the upcharge, it must be something good enough that people are willing to pay for it. If it wasn't, Royal wouldn't have any choice but to lower the price. Any business that prices themselves to high will slowly reduce their prices until they get back to their consistent and acceptable level of patronage. If they don't, well look no further than Chi Chi's, and others that I can't think of their names of right now. IHOP is suffering in many market locations because of crappy service and way overpriced for that market. The one in Avon, Indiana shut down last year because of that. So, as of right now, I don't think Royal is too concerned about Chops or Jamie's being overpriced, they seem to be doing fine. However, on my last cruise in May on the Ovation and a cruise a year or so before COVID on Symphony, Wonderland seemed to be empty or close to it every time we went by it, yet all other specialty restaurants were consistently full. JMHO
  14. Yesterday and this morning the app showed that we had 3 cruises booked. We actually only have two. We got that straightened at about noonish today. About an hour or so after that, the app showed 0 up coming cruises. You just can't win. On the app, still, when I click on the link to view the set sail pass, noting happens, it just turns dark while your finger is on it. In the website I click on the view set sail pass, it goes to a blank screen, except it has the usual "Contact" "About"....... This is as of about 5 minutes ago.
  15. Yes, I'm aware of that. And I do appreciate you passing that on. However, until now, I don't think I've ever heard it to vary more than a few day. But, I'm going to give it a few days and then start slinging stuff. BTW, I didn't complete something in my last post, "hurry-up and wait". That's what I get for rushing.
  16. I'm 39 days out from my next cruise. As the OP, no Set Sail Pass in the app or website. I've called Royal, their app/internet help desk, several times and they just say after everything they suggest to try, it's early, keep checking back. They suggested clearing out my cookies, history and so on. Also, try a different browser, uninstall the app and reinstall, turn off the device(s) (reboot) and restart. All of that indicates, to me, that they don't know what the hell is going on or what they are doing. Typical for RCCL's IT. I even rebooted my router/wifi, my own initiative. I did ask if a VPN makes a difference, they (I called several times) didn't have an answer to that question. So, I'm in a hurry-up mode for a few day!
  17. You are totally welcome to your own opinion, I respect that, and I'd fight to the death to defend your right (I signed that blank check many years ago). But, I disagree. My opinion is that Carnival is in no way comparable to Royal, in any way except price. Carnival is cheaper for a reason. Again, this is my opinion. YMMV
  18. I'm going to miss the 90 - 100 degree temps. I love the heat. When I was stationed at White Sands Missile Range, NM, on the 110+ days, I'd run 3 - 6 miles a day in a sauna suite, pants and top. Now, I'm much older and I walk 3.5 miles most day and love the 90+ degree weather. If it's below 92, I wear one of those neoprene sweat vests.
  19. In terms of the age of the company's fleet, it's 5th oldest. But, that really doesn't mean much. As long as the maintenance of the ship and the cost of the various updates, cosmetics updates, ecological impact, and mechanical repairs/needs, don't effect profit, it's good. And as long as people still wish to cruise on the ship, no big deal. Seems to me that a lot of people really enjoy the older ships, more power to them. https://highseascruising.com/royal-caribbean-ships-by-size-and-age/ The following table shows Royal Caribbean ships by age, from the newest ship to the oldest: Ship Name Class Year Built Wonder of the Seas Oasis 2022 Odyssey of the Seas Quantum-Ultra 2021 Spectrum of the Seas Quantum-Ultra 2019 Symphony of the Seas Oasis 2018 Ovation of the Seas Quantum 2016 Harmony of the Seas Oasis 2016 Anthem of the Seas Quantum 2015 Quantum of the Seas Quantum 2014 Allure of the Seas Oasis 2010 Oasis of the Seas Oasis 2009 Independence of the Seas Freedom 2008 Liberty of the Seas Freedom 2007 Freedom of the Seas Freedom 2006 Jewel of the Seas Radiance 2004 Serenade of the Seas Radiance 2003 Mariner of the Seas Voyager 2003 Brilliance of the Seas Radiance 2002 Navigator of the Seas Voyager 2002 Radiance of the Seas Radiance 2001 Adventure of the Seas Voyager 2001 Explorer of the Seas Voyager 2000 Voyager of the Seas Voyager 1999 Vision of the Seas Vision 1998 Rhapsody of the Seas Vision 1997 Enchantment of the Seas Vision 1997 Grandeur of the Seas Vision 1996
  20. LOL, in the 70s I was a private in the army and couldn't rub two nickels (hope that satisfies the spelling police in here) together let alone afford a cruise. Not much has changed but I have learned how to live below my means. 🥴
  21. Although I don't think this is the case in this situation, there are two different ship's capabilities. 1. Cabin occupancy levels 2. Ships maximum It is possible to reach the ship's maximum level of crew and passengers while still having empty bunks/beds.
