Relief Band, ErmTerm: Effective? Which one?
YourWorldWithBill replied to YourWorldWithBill's topic in Holland America Line
Thanks, all. -
I've been hesitant to do that, as I use my AmEx card to cover insurance for the cruise, and although I asked whether they would cover if I paid for gift cards, I didn't get a clear answer. So, I'm just paying with the card. Thanks for that reminder.

Probably the way I posted the picture. But yes, it's about the picture making fun of the idea that people fall asleep in 7 seconds. I was probably exaggerating: it probably takes Kimmie at least 10 seconds.

Relief Band, ErmTerm: Effective? Which one?
YourWorldWithBill replied to YourWorldWithBill's topic in Holland America Line
Thanks for the details. As I said, I've found ginger to work pretty well. We're going to try meclizine, and I will eventually decide whether to fork over the $ for the relief band. Even if it's somatic (psychological), if that helps... -
Thanks; I'll be buying some AARP cards soon. About (4) and (5): It's just magic! I wish I had that magic power. I have nothing to with it, the chips just disappear without any effort on my part. One minute they're in front of me, appearing to be real and to have some value, the next minute I'm wondering what went wrong. It's obviously something to do with the chips themselves, and I don't even cruise on Disney.

When I went to visit my daughter last weekend, she told me something horrifying: she said that studies show that after an onion is cut, if it's kept even in the refrigerator, by the next day it starts to grow some bacteria. So I checked with Dr. Google, and found out that was not true. Evidently a few years ago someone posted that, and the idea is still circulating! Surprise! Something posted online that is just nonsense. Moving on to garlic: my wife, Kimmie, who is from southern Thailand, cannot have enough garlic; but she is not a fan of onions. With a response to @cat shepard's post, however: One of these people is Kimmie (knock on wood), as it takes her approximately 7 seconds! Thanks to @StLouisCruisersfor the fleet report, @rafinmd for all the maps, and @JazzyVfor the care list.

Previously I used the AARP gift cards to purchase casino chips before boarding; these were then on my account and could be picked up. I was advised to use this method, as there was a problem buying OBC with the AARP and then using that OBC to purchase chips. That method of purchasing chips online is no longer available. If I use the AARP gift card to purchase OBC, does anyone know whether there would be a problem buying chips with that credit? I don't imagine there would be, because OBC is just OBC, but...

Relief Band, ErmTerm: Effective? Which one?
YourWorldWithBill replied to YourWorldWithBill's topic in Holland America Line
Thanks for all the helpful comments; this gives me a good idea of how to handle this. @bundtkate, nice to hear that a doctor recommended the Relief Band. We also wonder about the many types and prices. @sciencewonk, I had heard similar results, except that I heard somewhere that ginger was more effective, but that might have been third hand. I trust that what you said is more accurate, as you've obviously studied this more than I have. We'll stick with Dramamine or Bonine, although I'm tempted to try the relief bands anyway. I've seen over the years that some alternative meds like that might work for some but not be consistent, and therefore difficult to verify using experimental studies. We like your methods, @Iamthesea and @KruisinKath! @Judy795What I've heard about the Drake Passage is consistently... not calm! I wonder if we'll ever make it. -
Thanks to @StLouisCruisersfor doing the report and to @rafinmdfor the maps. Great to see the Nieuw Statendam in the area where we will board in a couple of weeks! @kazuwonderful to hear that your cruise is on! And here's Franklin (gone but not forgotten), lying in front of a book about him. At least that's what he thought.

Relief Band, ErmTerm: Effective? Which one?
YourWorldWithBill replied to YourWorldWithBill's topic in Holland America Line
Thanks @Navybikermomand @cbr663for your comments. She used the Scopolamine for a couple of cruises, but on the last one she had such an extremely dry mouth (one of the side effects) that she said was worse than the benefit. We might try non-drowsy Dramamine or Bonine again, but in the meantime I hope to hear from someone who's used the Relief Band or ErmTerm! -
You can also buy Holland America gift cards from AARP at a 10% savings; so a $500 gift card that can be used for onboard credit would cost $450. I'm sure others will know the answer to your question. The credit is automatically applied to my Mariner account once I uploaded it.

Relief Band, ErmTerm: Effective? Which one?
YourWorldWithBill posted a topic in Holland America Line
My wife has motion sickness. This means that when the sea is a bit rough she spends time in bed and often misses dinner. Dramamine - the type that causes drowsiness, rather than the non-drowsy kind - works for her; thus the time out of action. On another thread about a year ago some people recommended the Relief Band, and others recommended the ErmTerm. The less expensive Sea-Bands were not very effective, but we'd like to try either the Relief Band or ErmTerm. I keep ginger tablets with me and anytime I feel anything I've found them to be very successful, but that's not enough for her. Any suggestions, especially from those that have similar issues and found these remedies effective, will be greatly appreciated! Thanks to all for reading this (and other) thread(s). Bill -

So sorry to hear this news. I hope the doctor has decent news and something that can help. @aliaschiefGreat pictures! I lived in India for a while many (many) years ago, but never saw the Taj Mahal. It embarrasses me to say that (although I saw a lot of other things).- 98 replies

You've probably already tried that, but if not: if the person who answers offers to take a message for a supervisor, tell them you'll hold, and just wait. Safer that way.

Thanks so much for the extra work of finding this. I'm going to create a thread tomorrow and see what feedback I get in general. It looks like the Eme Term is very similar to the one I mentioned, but it's less expensive! -

Hello all. Thanks for the Fleet report, care lists, maps, and all your posts. I'm going to start a new thread with this question, but thought I would ask here first: My wife has a constant battle with motion sickness. She takes Dramamine, which helps if she takes the drowsy type. It means that at times onboard I'm eating dinner alone! I've found that ginger tablets work pretty well for me if I have an issue, and they help her, but not enough. Studies have shown that ginger is the best remedy, but...... About a year ago on a thread about this, there were some postings about the "Relief Band". This is not a simple wrist bracelet that is supposed to affect acupressure points, but a rather expensive gadget that looks like a watch. Does anyone have any experience with those? If so, does it matter which one? I'll probably get one just to find out, but thought that some of you might have had the experience of having used one. Thanks! -
We had a really cute dog on the bed one night, so we took him home and hired a trainer. He does lots of tricks now; he's really good at "play dead".🐶
