  1. It's selective marketing, no different than what Princess does to those who make donations to the casino. You're already loyal to Princess so what's the point in marketing this extra OBC to you, if you're going to cruise on Princess anyway? They want to entice those who haven't cruised with Princess in a while to come back. Last year, there was a 50% off promo for passengers that booked through Future Cruise while onboard. That promo was targeting current guests onboard Princess ships. Is is fair? No. Is it good marketing? Yes.
  2. I get the Medallion might make it easier to order drinks (still don't see why it's so hard to hand over a cruise card hand have the BT swipe it), but it's not exactly good accounting acumen.
  3. It matters if you have a package. If you have a package, then the included number of drinks is 15 per person per day. If one person goes over, the drink counter doesn't roll over to the other person occupying the cabin. Instead, the person who went over the 15 limit, starts to get charged for drinks while the other person's drink package goes untouched. Theoretically, the same person could keep ordering until the 15 drink limit is reached and then the other person would have to order drinks for the day.
  4. Minors below 16 years of age are still only issued passports with 5 years validity.
  5. You should memorize the number as well, but even if you memorize the number, these documents won't do you any good if they're expired.
  6. If you consider yourself a traveler... First, you should memorize the expiration date of your driver's licenses, state issued IDs, passports--anything you would use as credential to enter an airport or a foreign country--like you memorize your Social Security number. Second, you should do your due diligence to renew these important documents with enough time receive them before the expiration date.
  7. The POS tablet will pick up the Medallion that is nearest and the bartender will match the face of the person that is front of them to the the photo that appears on the tablet and all drinks will be charged against that person's drink limit. If you want to split the "tab" then you have have to verbally tell the bartender your cabin number and tell them to charge each drink to each occupant. There's no handing over the Medallion; the signal is picked up by the tablet using the "airwaves." Theoretically, you could have your husband tote your Medallion to the bar so it will populate the tablet as well, but the bartender will still be confused because the face that appears on the tablet won't match any of the people that's in front of them; it still requires explaining on the part of the passenger.
  8. There's really no scenic cruising on this cruise. It's all ocean once you leave New Zealand and this cruise skips Fjordland National Park. Balconies are great, but I think you can skip it on this cruise. Not sure if your state is included, but there's a Drop and Go promo for residents of certain states for this cruise where they can get a $500 EZAir credit on top of the Drop and Go rate for departures out of SYD. It looks like there are some obstructed balconies left for ~$1000 more. If your state is included in the promo, it's like you're only paying ~$500 for the obstructed balcony. But you have to book your air through EZAir and not sure how expensive the fares are this late in the game.
  9. On the Emerald in January, someone took it upon themselves to decorate the blank wall across from their cabin door. It had boas, a happy birthday sign, and non helium balloons, amongst other stuff. This person with too much time on their hands and too much room in their suitcase is probably also partly to blame.
  10. Plenty of people have the wrong loyalty level showing in the App. Some people have had success in reporting the problem and getting it corrected. Others haven't. The issue will usually self correct once connected onto MedallionNet on the ship. If it matters to you, people have said that Medallions arrive with the correct loyalty level, regardless of what App says your loyalty is when ordering.
  11. Easiest way to tell is to login to your Captain's Circle Account and look under your Cruise History. Pay attention to the number of cruise credits you will be credited on your upcoming cruise. If you will be getting 2, then that means your cruise is composed of 2 segments and you're entitled to 2 minibars. (If booked in a suite or cruising solo, divided the cruise credits by 2 to get the number segments.) We did a 24 day Transatlantic, that was a three segment 7, 3, and 14 day cruise, and we got a total of 3 minibars.
  12. It's the norm to charge a single supplement on all-inclusive vacations, organized land tours, and cruises. It's been that way since I can remember. Not the expert at solo travel because I've rarely had to travel solo.
  13. The recent update really screwed something up. The initial blue screen with the Seawitch passes within seconds. However, the App homepage and Journey tab take forever to load. At one point today, the homepage too so long to load that the App logged me out automatically. Entering my credentials from scratch didn't make the homepage load any faster. Weird thing is, you can press the Profile tab while the wheel is spinning concurrently on the homepage it will load with no lag.
  14. As a solo, you paid double for the base cruise fare, but only paid single for the Plus Package fare. Therefore, you only paid for single device Wi-Fi. By your logic, this would mean that you also paid for double crew appreciation ($32 a day, instead of $16 for up to a premium balcony), double drinks (30 per day, instead of 15), double casual dining (4 per cruise instead of 2), double premium desserts (4 per day, instead of 2), and double fitness classes (4 per cruise instead of 2). This is NOT the case. You also only paid single for the port charges and taxes.
  15. Wouldn't rely on what Princess reps told you. You need a passport with 6 months validity after travel or risk being denied boarding. In 2022, the same situation happened with a closed loop Panama Canal cruise on Princess. If these passengers were denied boarding in FLL on a closed loop cruise, despite what they were told by a Princess rep prior to boarding, then you chances are even higher on a one way cruise. That's why the separate "Passport Notification" is e-mailed. See link of thread below.
  16. We did LAX to FLL Panama Canal cruise in January 2024. The separate notice below stating that passports with 6 months validity after completion of travel were REQUIRED was e-mailed about 2 weeks before our sailing. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.
  17. I guess I'm spoiled with being from the San Francisco Bay Area. Drive a few hours north we have Mount Shasta, Mount Lassen, and Lake Tahoe, amongst a few. Drive a few hours south, we have Yosemite, Mono Lake, Sequoia National Park. Might not have the moose or glaciers but IMO, even more beautiful and scenic than Alaska. There's more to California than Disneyland and the metropolitan areas. Alaska is fine. I only cruise there because it's relatively cheap. Denali was nice, but I'm really not itching to go there again.
  18. This is one off situation...In Barcelona on the Grand Princess many moons ago, the forklift used to transfer luggage malfunctioned causing some people's luggage to fall into the water below from the luggage carts. Mine and my grandma's luggage were some of the casualties. Guest Services gave us OBC in the amount of the cruise fare while we were onboard and when we got home both of us received a $1000 check from Princess. Tracking tags won't help if this is the situation. As the airlines advise, it's best to have meds and anything of value in your hand carried luggage where it's always in your possession.
  19. Not quite sure if you mean that your middle name was misspelled, as you've spelled middle without the e in both instances, or if you mean that your first and middle name are mushed together. If it's the latter, you should have stopped while you were ahead. It's completely normal for first and middle names to be mushed together when booking through EZAir. First and middle are separate in the Princess booking and when booking EZAir (warning appears asking you to check a box that confirms that names are correct and spelled correctly), but for whatever reason, 9 times out of 10, first and middle are mushed together once received by the airline. Airlines will still accept you for travel, even though it looks incorrect. Sorry, no advice on how to get the change fee removed or how to remove the extra middle name.
  20. Twin setup gives more room to walk around in an interior and oceanview. The setup is bed/nightstand/nightstand/bed. In a balcony, deluxe balcony, and mini-suite the space between the beds isn't really useful because it's too narrow. The setup is nightstand/bed/nightstand/bed with the bed being closest to the closet being pushed up to the wall.
  21. Not sure why, but the App shows the passenger's date of birth (month day year) under Profile > Personal Information. E-mail associated with the account also shows. Seems like an easy way for someone with bad intentions to gain your personal information and use it in a manner that it isn't supposed to be used in.
  22. It's not a scam and is validated by Princess on their website. Whether or not the package price's value holds true or not is up to you. Also note that once paid and the initial grace period has passed, the entire amount becomes non refundable, so if you're unable to use one aspect of the package, kiss your money goodbye. You can also kiss your FCC/hotel credits/hotel discounts goodbye once they expire. The topic been discussed ad nauseam on this board.
  23. The Princess website showed all Sun Princess cabins having a sofa and a Nespresso machine. We all know that didn't become fact. The interior rooms don't have a sofa, but a bench. Only suites got the coffee machine, and it's a Lavazza machine. Princess reneged on Signature benefits for some cabin types. Wouldn't be too quick to dismiss everything being said by those who have written about the Sun Princess. Princess isn't known for being on top of their website. I will concede that there's a lot not ready action on the Sun.
  24. That’s the price you pay for convenience. Princess takes care of most of the details. You just show up and have to make minimal decisions based one pre arranged options. In the 1990s organized land tours were a very big thing. My grandparents loved taking them. I went on a few with them to Europe and thought they were too rushed. (It’s also why I won’t ever take a river cruise in Europe; sub the bus with a long ship and it’s pretty much the same experience.) With the arrival of self service reservations, travel research sites (ie TripAdvisor, YouTube, etc) and more affordable travel, I came to realize how much of a rip off some of these organized tours can be. They are for those that want the easy way out and with lots of money to blow.
  25. Good luck with that. At the end of the day, you still made use of the ship's amenities and accommodations for the duration of the cruise. Wish Princess wasn't as stingy with the Future Cruise Credit, but I doubt you will be seeing a cash refund. Cash refunds tend to only occur when there's something major that affects all passengers on a particular sailing.
