  1. No idea about your situation. But, I would be careful about your child attending the the comedy shows. Some of the comedians poke fun at this stuff, which your child could potentially take offense to. There's at least a two comedians where the gist of their joke is how to proclaim a "man overboard" in today's world when you have to be politically correct in terms of gender references.
  2. Princess as of recent subscribes to Sport 24 for live sports events. It's a question of whether or not Sport 24 paid the original broadcaster for the right to broadcast the game on their channel. For example, Sport 24 paid the American channel TNT to broadcast some, but not all NBA Playoffs live. The sports alternate, i.e. soccer, rugby, etc., which is why not all games can be broadcast. You can check the schedule on https://sport24live.com/ , Schedule > At Sea, and convert the listed times to ship time.
  3. You're partially correct. It's more of a sports lounge during the day. There's a grand piano that was added sometime between this year and last, and at night, a piano player/singer playing it. The partitioned area in the back has the card tables. The tickers have been removed.
  4. Moot point. Most crew, if not all crew, that receive bonuses, tip, whatever you want to call it, don't have withholdings deducted nor are issued a W-2 because they aren't US Citizens and aren't subject to Social Security or IRS withholdings.
  5. Pull up your reservation on united.com using your PNR. Your free baggage allowance will be detailed there. At least one free check bag is usually included in for international flights.
  6. You should research how much Starlink costs for residential service and then multiply that cost by the thousands for the cruise lines. No doubt cruise lines are making money off of the Internet plans but Starlink is expensive to begin with.
  7. Yes, it does. One of my friend's complaints were that venues (dining, etc.) were open for shorter period of time, not good for guests. If you extend that to this discussion, this would mean the crew had more down time, which would mean they worked less and their compensation would be commensurately reduced. Yes, they can keep the tips, but if their wages are reduced because they work less hours, then it's quits. Again, this is speculation as you are speculating. The definition of a living wage is flawed in terms of low skill cruise workers. They don't pay for food, boarding, or healthcare while on contract, and their wages are reduced accordingly.
  8. Not privy to what or how P&O compensate their crew. As a US Citizen without a British or Australian post address, I can't book their cruises. From what I have gathered from my friends across the pond who will NEVER cruise with P&O again, there are cuts made elsewhere.
  9. So much discussion over this... If you don't agree with the wages and how the "crew appreciation," "Daily Service Charge," or whatever you want to call it is distributed, it's probably a good idea to stop cruising. There's a reason why cruise lines decide to register their ships in the countries they register them in--to avoid labor laws. Cruising has had this necessary evil since since the conception of major mass market cruise lines. At the end of the day you're giving the crew wages which is keeping them away from government help in their countries and having to beg for money on the street (ahem, America). They come from countries where the economy is not robust enough to give all those looking for employment a job and/or a livable wage.
  10. OBC carries over to subsequent segments on B2B cruises. Your folio won't be closed and charged to your credit card (or you won't have to settle, if paying cash) until the completion your final segment.
  11. I got one of these, as well, for my final payment due at the end of next month. Not sure why Princess is wasting paper and postage on this. It's indirect junk mail. E-mails get to the recipient much faster (Final Payment e-mails are sent at the 2 week and 1 week mark), and for a cruise line that's emphasizing it's use of technology, this is a step in the wrong direction. There are so many other things that Princess could be spending this money on.
  12. Not sure about the Enchanted... But on the Majestic, Take 5 is/was a VIP Casino and Lounge. The VIP Casino and Lounge was for the Chinese market when the ship launched. Been on her several times post restart and it seems to go back and forth. There's a section the side nearest Princess Theater that's walled off with card tables. Last year the card tables were covered up with stretch wrap. This year the tables were operational (with casino dealers for at part of the time that the casino was open) with the rest of the space open for passengers as a lounge and in the evening had a singing piano player. A little like a casino and Crooners combined.
  13. There's the simple economic theory of supply and demand in price determination. If you have too many empty cabins on a particular sailing (high supply), that means demand is low, and Princess is better off slashing prices to try and drive up demand, rather than sailing with empty cabins. They don't make money when sailing with empty cabins. The only entities that really defy this concept are gas and luxury goods. Everyone is dependent on gas and will pay the going rate as much as it hurts their wallet. (There's the electric car argument, but it really boils down to even the goods that we purchase; manufacturers/service providers will build in increased gas prices into their prices; thus, the high rates of inflation that were seen the past few years.) There are some people that will pay crazy amounts of money for luxury goods to have the prestige.
  14. The tactics are, however, ruthless. With regards to the cold calls: ONE reps were misrepresenting the Princess Promotions packages at the beginning stating that they were special offers for Elite Captain's Circle Members. (I got 2 of these using this tactic.) Then Princess decided to disguise calls from ONE reps as post cruise check-up calls as part of a "Welcome Home Program", which were really calls to sells Princess Promotions packages. Futhermore, the cold call ONE reps try and build false trust by talking about your cruise history and future cruises, which they only know about because Princess shared your Captain's Circle profile with ONE without your consent. Can't say I'm feeling the love with regards to Princess Promotions. I DON'T LOVE THIS! This thread talks about how the packages were a represented as a benefit of being Platinum and Elite. The Princess press release talks about the "Welcome Home Program" https://www.princess.com/en-us/news/news-releases/2023/02/princess-cruises-launches-welcome-home-program
  15. Let me add that published reduced solo supplement lists aren't all encompassing. If theres a sailing that has too much availability, fares and single supplement will drop. Also worth asking the now controversial Future Cruise Desk onboard for any specially priced voyages, which usually lead to lower single supplements. Said sailings are usually within 90 days of sailing.
  16. My friend asks his Princess CVP to email to him. My friend then forwards to me so I can look at what cruises, if any, interest me and our group of friends, so we can go as a group on a particular sailing. Not use how often list is updated, but I would say I see one about every 6 months.
  17. Too early to say...but if you guys want the Ruby in Australia fine by me, and we'll take the Royal in San Francisco.
  18. Majestic will be short lived in LA. She's doing a circumnavigation of South America in December 2024 to reposition. Then will be based on the Atlantic side doing Mediterranean, Canada/New England, and Caribbean cruises. Royal Princess will replace the Discovery when she departs for the Australia season.
  19. Princess doesn't have laundry packages. You pay per piece if you want Princess to do your laundry. If you do it on your own: One load of wash and one load dry is $3 each. Detergent and dryer sheets are $1.50 each or you can bring your own. Thread below has prices of laundry done in house. Once you're Elite in loyalty, you get unlimited comped in house laundry.
  20. Still too early. Attached is the PDF of reduced single supplement voyages that Princess published on 03/03/24. If you scroll to pages 2 and 3, you'll see that virtually all one way Alaska sailings out of Vancouver for the 2024 season have reduced single supplements. Round trip Alaska sailings out of Seattle and round trip sailings out of Vancouver, rarely, if ever, have reduced single supplements because these cruises are high in demand (closer to fly to as compared to flying to Anchorage, and for Seattle, cheaper to fly to). Fares are generally lower on the Grand Class ships because they are older. I think the 14 day RT, Voyage of the Glaciers are some of the best values. I don't usually sail single, but we have cruise friend that does and in 2023 my friend was able to snag an inside for $1285, Princess Standard with port/taxes on the Majestic. Balconies were in the $2500s. Not bad for a 2 week cruise. Solo Supplement Voyage List as of March 3 2024.pdf
  21. Good to know! Yes to both your examples. Off the top of my head, can't remember what the code regarding gaps are but the margins are small because air gaps can be the cause of the spread of fire. Negative on the Phillips screws. The ranges we use have the Philips screws. The California Department of Public Health does require reporting of "outbreaks." My girlfriend's family operates care homes and one of their homes were subject to closure because of a Noro outbreak. It cost them a pretty penny because all residents had to be taken to a different facility until the evacuated home could be scrubbed clean and the residents could be safely returned. According the article below, between 02/01/23 and 03/28/23 there were at least 25 confirmed Noro outbreaks in California, and the said facility was the epicenter of one during this time frame. I guess California is the outlier in respect to reporting. https://www.cdph.ca.gov/Programs/OPA/Pages/CAHAN/Elevated-Norovirus-Activity-in-California-.aspx#:~:text=Since February 1%2C 2023%2C at,which required closure for control.
  22. Right, so unless one is sailing into US waters the rules don't apply? Are the cruise lines just going through the motions when out of US waters? Is it a mice play when the cat is away situation? Serious question. On land, if the health department can trace the spread of a pathogen to an establishment, the establishment gets shut down. This usually happens when there are multiple diners who go to the hospital or make candid reports to the food facility inspectors (that's what we call them in California) in an area. The inspectors interview the affected diners and gather evidence and conduct and inspection of the facility. Below is one such notable case where this happened and the establishment was shut down. Just trying to figure out what the threshold for is "clear and direct threat to public health is." It seems like every winter, there are ships in the Caribbean that are harboring Norovirus, are being reported the CDC, and aren't being stopped. The passengers are live transmitters of Noro! It's hard to trace the source of Noro on land, but if you're on a ship, it's kind of a no brainer where you contracted it from. The question is who or what brought the Noro on the ship. I guess this is a question for the USPH inspectors, but the threshold seems pretty low. In California state health codes do involve themselves in how kitchens are constructed. An establishment won't pass it's commercial building and licensing inspection if it doesn't adhere to these codes. As far as how kitchen equipment is manufactured, establishments must use commercial grade equipment at all times and there's a list of manufacturers that an establishment can purchase equipment from. For example, an establishment can't use a countertop toaster oven from Wal-Mart for it's operation.
  23. Before Princess turns the Hollywood Pool/Conservatory into an adult's only paid Sanctuary, they need to figure out how to diminish the chlorine smell in the enclosed space. I can see passengers who are paying to use the area complaining out the smell.
  24. I had to Google that and it still doesn't make sense. Care to elaborate? Way before my time.
