1. @Port Royal, thanks again, so I went to look at the luggage website, but didn't get a quote because I wasn't sure if the airport is Heathrow or Gatwick, £14pp is extremely cheap!!!! I thought it would be a lot more money! Anyway, when my daughter came with lunch, I told her about it, she said- "first of all, remember the times our luggage was lost and BA didn't get it back to us until we were back 6 weeks later- then think about this : The taxi guys we take lift the cases, then, have we ever need to get on a line at the airport? ? nope- we don't queue, because the airport disabled assistance takes us all through, so, on risking getting luggage lost, I rather not, no matter how cheap it is" but she said she likes the idea of airport lounge 🙂 The tours, we can't stay longer because of work dates and other stuff, we more than likely will be going on a` land holiday to Italy at some point, this trip is my birthday present and is the sea part we look forward to, the cruising that we want to enjoy.... we are staying a couple of nights but arrive there at night, then have a full day (which we mostly want to go eat in some places that are in our list) I did Rome in my 20s, so either we will go with relaxed time so my daughter can do Vatican and all, or she will go with a friend... We already booked 1 tour that is marked for wheelchair users (I think is Vigo) and booked Alghero and one in Malaga, which on the phone they suggested better not because they may not take us with the wheelchair.... my daughter insisted we keep the Alghero at least, she pushes the wheelchair , but the lady on the phone said to keep an eye that sometimes they add wheelchair tours, so I have been looking regularly.... open to all advice!!!
2. @PORT ROYAL thanks again 🙂 have been flying long haul most of my life, learn from my mum the smart pa king and passed it on to my daughter (who has been flying and every kind of transportation since she was 7 months old! ) but had never thought about shopping at the airport for toiletries for this trip.... usually we buy when we get to whatever place we are going because it generally is cheaper, but I have friends who regularly travel to Italy and I know it may not be cheaper there right now, and thinking on being at sea, we were going to buy before hand... so Thank again for a very valuable tip! Also the luggage thing...I will most definitely have a look at the site, providing that we can afford it, it would be amazing to have the service!!! The airport lounge.... you mean booking it with the airport or can be done with Cunard? we got the flights with Cunard, initially arriving in the early morning of the embarkation day, but we changed to have a full day in Rome.... which brings to mind something that even one of the girls we spoke on the phone when changing flights was puzzled by..... When we go look at the shore excursions for our trip, first thing what comes up are many (MANY!) full day tours in Rome from Civitavecchia ...which would be practically impossible to do.... lets say we kept our initial flights, leaving London at 6 am, then arriving and being taken to the port....then go from there to Rome again... maths don't add up...for all the info we have been gathering, embarkation rarely takes place late at night? I would have been a bit annoyed if I booked for a tour and then realised we couldn't make it.... that's why decided to change the flights.... maybe Cunard should take them out of the options for tours in this voyage?
3. @PORT ROYAL Thanks!!! would be great to have a Cunard logo pen! Do the sewing kits also have Cunard logo? We never leave our home for holidays without a first aid kit, sewing one and sun protection + insect repellent, I guess we wont need to take our sewing kit if we can request one, even though it isn't much impact on the weight, everything little helps! (we are flying to Rome a couple of days earlier , BA give us 23k each, I guess the good side of things is that the flight is on the way in, no worries about weight on the way back (we shop for so many magnets and well... anything that catches our eye LOL Thanks again!
4. @D&N thanks for the video! I think she is wearing something different when she tries the pudim/desserts. I also hope she didn't eat it all! The one thing that appeals to us would be the curry, I'\m not one for curry usually but that one looks greatly presented and (if I am not mistaken) one of you mentioned nothing too spicy, then it will be great for me. Maybe the cauliflowers pie as we make it different, may have a go at it... it seems a nice atmosphere there, loving how this went rapidly from a misleading photo into a full on foodie thread...maybe someone with forum powers should move the whole food thing into an independent thread, as a first time on Cunard passenger, am glad I came to read and kept reading, food is HUGE for us on traveling 🙂
5. we travelled a lot to South America and Europe and have the plugging convertor but never needed one with USB ports, thanks for the links!
6. thank you guys!!!!! and yes, @Victoria2 I'm off to buy one now!
7. Thanks again, ladies @Host Hattie @Victoria2 another dumb question : we have iPhones, so the USB cable to charge the phone has a plug that one can plug on the wall... I'm assuming those are not high current, therefore we can use them on board?
8. Hi, Good Morning Hattie! Thanks 🙂 This is what I meant about no electric, in the "what to Pack" area of my Cunard, it reads this:
The on board electrical systems in your stateroom do not support high-current electronics. We provide lower current hair dryers in all staterooms and irons are available in our laundrettes. Please do not pack your own iron as this will not be permitted on board. We also ask that you don’t bring extension leads with you, unless they are accompanying essential medical equipment, such as CPAP and nebuliser machines. These will be checked for electrical safety along with your medical equipment prior to sailing. Surge-protected extension leads are not accepted in any circumstances, as they interfere with the ship's electrical distribution.
I guess a usb extension or the lug to charge the phone are not high current? I ll take a photo of our USB charger to show you what I mean, will do this when I can access the on my phone
9. This maybe a dumb question, I am sure there must be info but I am not sure I am seeing it clear : are there USB ports in Queen Victoria's cabins? I have a USB extension but it needs to be plugged on the wall and they say no electrical? My daughter was panicking about not being able to take her own hair drier, but sorted it , she says she is bringing a sieve to use in front of the ship's hair drier to diffuse (we both have big manes!) Don't think we will be using the phones much but trying to get a good picture of what we'll need... Thanks in advance!
10. we decided to arrive in Rome a couple of days early so it wont be too stressing (of course my daughter has ulterior motives: she has a sweat shirt that reads "pay me with pasta" she already made a list of all the places we need to eat at!) They told us Cunard does not have transfer if it isn't the day of the cruise sailing, even though we booked the flights with them...so THANK YOU @Victoria2 for mentioning 1pm, I know this could not be our time, but just in case, I can start planning hotel check out & all in case we do need to arrive around that time 🙂
11. oh marketing..... I still remember crying the first time I went to a Mc Donalds and the disappointment and frustration of opening a Big Mac lil box and....well, you know. At least with a cruise itinerary, in this day and age where the internet in general and especially those "influencers" go to extreme on creative license, we can search the cruise itinerary and see the places we will go... The food marketing/inflated photography frustrates me in extreme... oh and @Victoria2 I reckon am with you on the pleb taste.... not so much fish fiungers these days (more a thing until my daughter was 12 or so) but we cook at home some breaded/ battered chicken/fish/meats that are marvellous!!! @exlondoner though I agree with you on the fish finger sandwich not being appealing...if you ever are back in London, we ll cook for you some stuff with bread crumbs and some battered food that are delish!!!!!
12. thanks for the info, and thanks @elaine5 for your question as we were asking ourselves same... We booked directly with Cunard on the phone and were offered the option, we usually have diner quite late for the UK, and thought open dining could give us a choice to stretch to the later times, but yes, we were wondering same thing, after I mentioned to my daughter some of the reviews and posts I read here, if with open dining we would have to choose a table for 2 for the duration or could alternate and some days share bigger tables with other passengers?
13. @PORT ROYAL thanks!!!!! that is a hugely helpful tip! Will do!
14. @PORT ROYAL thanks so much!!!
15. do I understand well thinking if I book my next cruise on board of this one, we ll get the OBC? I will look at the document of benefots with my daughter too, it sounds really good!!!! Thanks again!!!!
16. thanks so much again @PORT ROYAL @Victoria2 @Pushpit & @Host Hattie I'm so glad I found these boards, we booked directly with Cunard, before Covid we were looking into cruising again, as I had not had a proper holiday for quite a while, found Cunard on a google search and loved what I saw, I have getting their emails since, so as soon as it was possible for my daughter to take time off, we were going to book online but for some reason ended up calling them, I have to say we were delighted with the attention we had with every person we spoke to, very professionals but also very, very nice people to talk to. Only after we had booked I found some YouTube videos telling us which cabin types not to book and some errors to avoid in big ships.... I get lost with questions asked on YouTube videos comments, so I went looking for a forum... this was the one that seemed to fit best, and I am so glad I got here... I may need to pester you with more questions, your info is great, Thanks once again!!!!!
17. Thanks SO much for this info!!!!!! it will make thing so much easier!!! We were thinking to use the wheelchair to get to the places, and I would walk with wither one or 2 crutches inside the dining rooms or places where I can manage the walking, the wheelchair is a transit one, very small (I am myself a tiny old lady LOL) and is very light weight, Thanks once again for this info, you have helped a great deal!!!!!
18. @PORT ROYAL thanks again! will be fine , I hope!
19. @Host Hattie thank you!!!!!!!! also thanks for all your pinned posts and various replies I read from you, this is the first board I found where I had no trouble finding exactly the info I wanted and in a wording that I could perfectly understand, so thanks once again 🙂
20. HI, thanks so much!!! OK, I may not have expressed properly (even though I have been in the UK for 30 something years and worked as a simultaneous interpreter for years for the government, I am still not a native English speaker) We are taking the wheelchair, which my daughter pushes so that wont be a problem.... I was thinking more about (after reading the problematic cabin's posts) if we were under or above noisy rooms.... and, the smoking places were more about if I will be able to walk in cutches to the smoking areas or my daughter would have to take me in the wheelchair... I am not a heavy smoker, but still smoke 🙂 so wanted to know distances,
21. true, not sure if applies to QM, but we just bought QV 7 days and were offered the open dining, which we took 🙂
22. Hi, we have been in cruises on the Nile in small ships (which were an amazing experience) and a very short one (3 days) Portsmouth to Bilbao with PO, which we got very cheap (ages ago) because I think it was the ship's last trip before they reformed, which, of course, wasn't the greatest of experiences as there was rust everywhere and in general the ship was near falling apart, but still, we loved the time on board, but I can't say we are experienced in big ship cruises. We are now going with my daughter to a 7 days Cunard in QV Mediterranean, I would like info about this deck and cabin, as I already found amazing great info in general for Cunard in this board, I thought maybe any of you have some tips I can't figure out if I am reading well the ship maps (thanks to Host Hattie for the fabulous pinned posts info!) ... if I understand well, most of the obstructed views are in decks 4 & 5? Could anyone give me info on cabin 6050? I know we are near the lifts, but that is kinda convenient for us as, thought not confined to a wheelchair permanently, I can't walk long distances so having the lift near can be convenient at times.... is being near the lifts very noisy? would love to be able to problematic cabins, being under pool or noisy restaurants, I tried to read most of the posts I found here on which cabins not to book and I haven't found any info on that deck in general, also, does anyone know where the QV smoking areas are? do they have them in all decks or just in some? so if anyone can give any info/tips, would be really grateful! 🙂
