  1. Oh I love YOU!!!!!!! I spoke to my daughter about you (read some threads and pointed out at some of your posts) her comment : I think we may meet some very cool people in the cruise- she now will love you even more!!!!!!!!!! she even contemplated bringing a sieve (food kindLOL) to use with the ship's hair dryer. She will be very happy and if I can have my GHD , Gala Night will be straight hair!!! Thanks once again!!!!!
  2. Ok, so.... when we read the Cunard part of the above , we understood no hair dryers or straighteners or curling irons.... Not sure I trust Google on this, because the Cunard rules say containing any kind of heating element, such as but not limited to which we understood means other appliances that have a heating element are also included in the list? I thought hair dryers, straighteners & curling irons all have heating elements? My daughter was disappointed about not being able to bring hair dryer, she has a Dyson that changed her life (she has a mane of very long curly hair) we have a GHD straightener/flat iron which we use from time to time, and would love to have it on board, but we understood that was not allowed after reading the description in the site... I thought it would be to do with the `amount of electricity needed for appliances like that? or the kind of system used in a ship, as they also mention no extension leads.... I honestly thought straighteners also have a heating element? May give Cunard a call to be completely sure 🙂
  3. Glad to hear it was negative, hope you keep feeling better 🙂
  4. @vietmom so sorry to hear, I would most definitely be frustrated to put it lightly.... Hope your husband recovers quickly. Now after all these posts about COVID, I reckon they should start making people test before boarding.....then eliminate possible contagion. EtA : people & crew, of course
  5. so, approximately how much would the pre authorisation could be? How do they work out how much one will spend?
  6. @D&N thanks, yes, no doubt about the advantages, if I have any doubts, surely I can see it clearly. I use the Wise money transfer when I want to send gifts to my nieces, nephews and Goddaughters, never too much and they beat the PayPal until PayPal removed the fees, will have a look at their cards. Got friends who bank with Nationwide who love it, will have a look for sure 🙂
  7. thanks 🙂 one of my credit cards is the kind that gives money back, so we usually use it and pay before the due date, but I m not sure what their fees and exchange rate are for US$, we just been to Seville, we had euros so almost didn't use it, but the exchange rate was ok, need to check fees...
  8. @PORT ROYAL @Winifred 22 thanks! will have a look at those 🙂 I ws gonna say we have a Nationwide very near us but I guess these days we apply for everything online? Oh I keep feeling old !!! LOL
  9. thanks so much, @BigMac1953 & @lissie and yes, I know the currency is US$, we were told when we booked on the phone and read about it on My Cunard. We have dollars left from a previous trip, hence my question... I'm not sure what the exchange rate and fees will be with our bank, will have a look at that and then the Wise... By any chance any of you know names for those cards that have no international fees?

    Tea Forte

we use Yorkshire at home, started in 2003 and never looked back, but we have a huge variety of herbal and fruit teas from both twinnings and The English Tea Company.... the ritual of Camomile or other herbal/fruity combination for evening is something I assume we would be able to have in our trip...glad this post is here, I know now we will need to bring our own... because of health issues I drink green tea through the day...
  11. @lissie I may have a look at Wise. I know a Wise that is a money transfer agency, wondering if is the same company. We usually pay of our credit cards before due date... A different question on the same line of thought.... is it possible to pay on board with actual dollar bills? or does it have to go on a credit/debit cards? Anyone has any idea about this? should I make a separate post?
  12. @Host Hattie @Mr H. H please, please, pretty pretty please? come to our cruise in September? We would NEVER blank someone like you!!!!!! (I mean, we assume Mr H H has to be as great as Hattie even though we have not read about you till now) we love food, but we love people almost as much, have mastered the art of conversation over the best food in the world..... and having dinner on a Cunard trip with you would be amazing!!!!!! ❤️
  13. Most definitely wish we were there!!! Glad to hear you are having a great trip, Hattie 🙂 Thanks for sharing the days with us and those awesome pictures! On the internet thing.... We just came back from a week in Sevilla, only looked at our phones to used them as a map (as my daughter was pushing my wheelchair all over the city!) and did a few posts to share with family what we were doing.... but that made us decide not to get net package on our Cunard trip x September ... we have free roaming with our provider so maybe will have a look at mail maybe make a couple of posts when we are in port/ touring, reckon it will make us good to have another trip net free, which by the look of your program, I doubt we will be missing it with all those awesome activities 🙂 Good choice on going to Sitges, not sure how much it has changed, last time we were there was over 15 years ago, but am sure is still an amazing place!!!!! Looking forward to your next update, keep enjoying!!!!!! ❤️
  14. Sorry to hear! Hope you have a speedy recovery and can carry on enjoying your trip 🙂
  15. I don't think Cunard is sliding standards just to "please those.... whatever" I think that (as @Victoria2 well pointed out) they are trying to make up of two years of a dreadful wide world pandemic that stopped people even going on an around the corner holiday, and a subsequent financial crisis which makes them try to survive and attract new (not necessarily younger) people. My daughter is 27, she doesn't wear jeans every day, but was happy to hear she can if she wants to..... I do hope Cunard survives because, aside the dress code, it seems to be a fabulous cruising experience, what would disrupt my experience wouldn't be people under dressed, but other type of disruptions.... if the people under dressed aren't attacking or mistreating the crew, the fellow passengers or creating real disruptions.... I have no issues with them. I would pay more attention to errors in billing, or a sliding down on food standards, for example.... sorry Edit to Say: my daughter wont be wearing jeans at diner, I meant she was glad to hear she can during the day...just in case my phrasing left any doubts.
  16. oh well..... as I said, hopefully the rest will be the high quality of pre pandemic standards 🙂
  17. Hattie, Sept 08th, and yes, first thing I did when I signed up here was look up your pinned threads and looked it up, the one you have is right, was confirmed last week on My Cunard, is toward the end of the trip and is 1920s 🙂 I know I can dress up every night, just themed nights are a bit more exciting!! 🙂
  18. @D&N that's our view !!!! 🙂 we got Cunard precisely because I kinda knew I wouldn't look foolish if I dressed up every night.... honestly, there are MUCH cheaper lines if I wanted a week of relaxing by the pool and wearing what I wear to eat out in London.... Having said that, I was expecting 2 gala nights for a week, but after reading (here, actually, some articles in Cruise Critic) about cut backs in some companies... I ll be glad to have just one providing that the food standards and general cruise attitude is the one they paint/promise in their cruise description... friends of ours from the USA cruised with Cunard pre pandemic and had a marvellous experience, a couple of British friends also were amazed with their experience...hence our going for paying more... and, judging by the opinions of most of you guys who have replied to my questions, I'm excited and confident we will have an amazing experience 🙂 (and still keeping the hope that may add another gala night?)
  19. I switched from umbrellas to rain cape after some failed operations in between 2003-05 forced me on crutches and now the wheelchair for long distances.... but my daughter has an amazing collection of them! My husband always said in Britain you can have the 4 seasons in one day! 🙂 @Victoria2 I have to confess I had to google the cagoule.... yup, that is my thing!!!! 🙂
  20. @BklynBoy8 thanks!!!!! will most definitely do!!!!
  21. @exlondoner LOL well, my daughter says I talk too much, but I'm always nice when on holidays!!! 🙂
