  1. We are getting an early start to pick up candy for Halloween. Anyone else notice how much candy prices are up? I just hope we don’t eat it all before then..
  2. Mid teens and 20’s is really good. I have had times I didn’t make 10,000. Other days, I have made up for it. I remember hearing about people that would get 100,000 in a day, and that seemed unrealistic to me. So I set out one day, three years ago, to see how many I could get in one day. It was a struggle, but I topped 80,000. But then, I was younger, and still in my 60’s then. Don’t think I will try that again.
  3. These are the kind of mornings I dream about in the summer. Drop the boat in the water, put on the slalom ski, and ski on water that is smooth as glass. Beautiful morning.
  4. Yesterday was, what has become a new normal weekday for us. We spend every weekday, all day at our daughter’s house, helping her with anything she needs done. We have all been going for walks at the lake, but we do not get there before sunrise any days, because the grandkids need to get off to school. They say it is important that she keeps up with exercise. Speaking of exercise, I know I have mentioned here before that I use a Fitbit tracker. Well, yesterday was seven years since I began wearing one. I have to admit, they do give you a little more incentive to keep moving, and I have a “family”, much like this one, that does daily challenges. Anyhow, it appears that in three more months time, I will have walked the equivalent to one time around the world. (No wonder I go through so many pair of tennis shoes) Even the last month, I have picked up the pace a little. Today, more of the same. Heading out to walk with our daughter. Better to do it now, when it is 57°, than later when it is 80°.
  5. Happy anniversary, Sue and Gary. Wishing you many more. I can relate to those delayed celebrations when watching grandkids is involved. We delayed ours the last couple years, since our California grandson was here.
  6. It was a good day today. Daughter finally tested negative for Covid, so she will be back on her normal treatment schedule in another week. Today was the end of boating season for us. I spent my day cleaning our boat, winterizing it, and moved it into it’s garage spot for the winter. It was also a day to clean the garage and the vehicles. After all that work, I had to channel Sea Dog, and relax with a kraken Colada. I think my bartender is more generous with the kraken pour. Oh, wait, that would be me. 😏
  7. Not quite the same, but Susan does not pay attention to where we park. One time, we were walking to our SUV in the parking lot, and she was not paying attention to where I was going. She walks to an SUV about 4 spaces from ours, opens the door, and starts to get in. And she scares the bejesus out of the lady sitting in it. Right color, right make, but a couple years older than ours. Of course, I am standing there, watching this play out. Why am I reminded of that story? Tonight, we stopped at a store, and I waited in our SUV while she dashed in. I look in my rear view mirror and see her pass by, and I wonder why it is taking her so long to get in. There she is, a few spaces down, trying to get in another SUV. Right color, but wrong make and model. Now, I just shake my head.
  8. Today was split up day. Our cheerleading granddaughter was off to an away game this morning, so Susan and my daughter went there. My grandson had his first flag football game of the season here, so that is where I went. His team is a mix of fourth thru Eighth grade students. Grandson played well at QB, and had three touchdown passes. In spite of their team being named after the Jets, they played much better than their namesakes. Mapping the play. Hike the ball They won, 28-14 That must be today’s lucky number. Granddaughter’s team, she was cheering, won 28-14 too.
  9. Fifty years ago today, the first episode of M*A*S*H was broadcast. I have always been a fan, and still watch reruns at least once or twice a week. There was some talk about “most watched”, but if you are talking strictly about the US audience, the Super Bowl holds that title. Nine out of the top ten have been various Super Bowls, with the M*A*S*H finale in the remaking spot.
  10. My two cents about bags. It seems that the most likely place for damaged bags has been the cruise line handling. We originally had some Samsonite soft side bags, but found they would not only get crushed when they stacked those bags on the bottom, but if it is caught in the rain, things inside can get soaked. You don’t want to start your vacation with wet clothes. We use hard shell luggage now. When looking at hard shell luggage, go with the polycarbonate bags. They are a little more expensive than the ABS plastic bags, but they don’t crack like the plastic ones. Just open those hard shells, and they fit nicely under the bed in the cabin.
  11. A couple years ago, Susan and I were walking at the lake. We spooked a bunch of deer, and the jumped in the lake and swam to the other side of this portion of the lake. You can see four of them, about halfway between the geese and the other shore.
  12. I second that suggestion for Kailua pig. I loved that. As for the spam, I know that it is a big thing in Hawaii. I sampled several flavors, but given the other choices, spam would not be on my list. And Bob, stay away from the poi. I never could acquire a taste for it.
  13. I think they house the light weights there. One of Susan’s sisters and her husband worked at the US Penitentiary in Terre Haute. That is where most prisoners, sentenced to death, are sent. Timothy McVeigh was probably one of their most notable residents. For a maximum security facility, I never understood why they had car shows for them. Each year, my sister-in-law would send me a “Cars Behind Bars” t-shirt. I think I still have a couple of those shirts.
  14. @Sea Dog Greg, keep an eye on your account on Symphony. I see Royal charged a couple $100,000 for eating a Jamie’s. On another note, today is 100 days till Christmas. I bet you are getting excited already. Time to put up some decorations.
  15. Oops, how did 81° get on that last wayfinder picture? 🤣🤣 It is not 82° any more.
  16. In my opinion, the only way to see Hawaii is through land based tours. There is just so much to see, that the quick port stops by ship are not nearly long enough. We had considered doing NCL, but heard they were not the best, service wise. When you factor in airfare, we were able to do a 15 day round trip cruise from the west coast for less than air and cruise with NCL. We did our sailing with Princess. (My review, if you are interested) https://boards.cruisecritic.com.au/topic/2408757-the-grand-hawaiian-adventure-a-trip-report-with-patters-menus-elvis-and/ Working to our advantage, I had already done six, two week land tours visiting the four main islands. I still have hopes of taking the entire family to Hawaii, instead of Florida for our holiday getaway. My son is onboard with that, since they live in California. They have been going to Hawaii every year during school spring break, and have had some great deals.
  17. We did a 15 night round trip to Hawaii from San Francisco. Although we did that trip with Princess, there was so much going on during those sea days, we were never bored. I hope the seas are calm for you. Sailing from the west coast, we had good size waves for the first day or two, then it got smoother, the closer we got to Hawaii. Plan accordingly, if either of you get motion sickness. Kauai is nice, but I don’t think I ever spent more than 3 days at a time there. The good news is they have a Duke’s there, so you can get some of their Hula Pie.
  18. I not only do this, but lately I have probably been breaking the law by recording important conversations. I use the apple voice memo app. Just yesterday, I hit the record button when the doctor came in to talk to her. I knew she would be too groggy to remember, and I may miss something. So when Susan asked what the doctor said, I told her I knew exactly what he said. I also used this for one of my calls to Royal, when I cancelled our cruises. By the way, voice memo uses about 250 Mb per hour of recording time.
