  1. Did you notice that the story you quoted was last updated in 2016? And it was for private water taxis, not for the larger boats that transfer tourists to Ammoudi.
  2. Chora is a lovely town with some old houses you can visit in addition to the windmills. It is dwarfed by the monastery, making for some dramatic pictures. Skala, where you tender, has a lot of alleyways with shops and restaurants. There are also very good beaches in the island. It is really worth getting off the ship to visit Patmos. And reconsider visiting the monastery. It is a fortress with striking architecture. Some tours include Chora and the monastery, which means a shorter visit to the monastery.
  3. Yes, but start checking a day before just in case. In your example, if you want tickets for May 20, they will go on sale May 19 at 6 pm ET but start checking on May 18.
  4. Midnight (12 am) in Rome on May 20 is 6pm ET on May 19.
  5. Taxis from Central Rome to the Vatican are 10-12 euros per ride. You may want to consider this option since you are only going to need them one day and it will save you a lot of time and energy walking to get to a bus.
  6. Frankly, I would skip the walking tour of Cannes and take the train to Nice. Nice is best in the morning when the Flower Market is open. Stop in Antibes on your way back from Nice. Still, have lunch in the old town and visit the Picasso museum. When you get back to Cannes you would still have time to walk around La Croissette on your way back to the ship. I understand that taking the walking tour would get you out early, but I can't imagine walking around Cannes for 3 hours. If it is over by 10 or so you can still go to Nice. And, yes, I love Antibes. We used to live just outside the town.
  7. Plenty of time for Antibes. Plan to catch the train and have lunch there.
  8. If by best you mean the most convenient, not the cheapest, look at Stefano's Rome Cabs. romecabs.com
  9. I will try it next time. Always looking for a good fado performance. 🙂
  10. Go to a fado performance. These two are very good: Tasca do Chico in Alfama Bela Petiscos e Vinhos
  11. It will be 68-70 F. The beach facilities will likely be closed.
  12. You should see a lot of red dots on the map with prices on them. Those are the hotels. Click on any of them. They are all within easy walking distance of the main tourist sites: Pantheon, Piazza Navona, Trevi Fountain, Spanish Steps, etc. A little longer walk to the Forum and Colosseum. Look at the Pantheon slightly left of center on the map. Use this form to send a message to Shared Shuttle. It gets sent from your email when you click "Send message." The replies go directly to your email and you can keep corresponding from there. https://sharedshuttle.it/contatti.php
  13. A live person will answer your emails. Easier with the time difference. Also, look at this map with all the hotels marked. It is the Central Rome area we are all talking about. The prices will be somewhat lower in November. https://www.google.com/maps/search/Hotels/@41.8984895,12.4787582,17.25z/data=!4m8!2m7!3m6!1sHotels!2sRome,+Metropolitan+City+of+Rome+Capital,+Italy!3s0x132f6196f9928ebb:0xb90f770693656e38!4m2!1d12.4963655!2d41.9027835?hl=en
  14. Do look at this site: https://santorinidave.com/best-beaches-santorini It has pictures and a map for all the beaches. It mentions beach resorts and clubs at each of the beaches. You can get in touch with them directly and arrange for a beach rental. They would probably love to arrange for an early morning group rental. Even better if you also arrange for a coffee/breakfast after the service.
  15. Right now you are picking the (wrong) shuttle first and the hotel second. Yes, you need to get a hotel FIRST. Then, second, book a shuttle directly to the hotel. You don't have to be at the mercy of wherever the ship's shuttle drops you off. A reliable private shuttle company, such as https://sharedshuttle.it/, will pick you up right next to the ship, at the exact same place the ship's shuttle would pick you up. It will take you directly to your hotel, not dump you at the train station. They speak perfect English. You don't have to go to any station to pick up a taxi. Look at all the hotel recommendations here: https://boards.cruisecritic.com/topic/2756652-hotels-in-rome/page/1/#comment-65296698 There are at least 28 pages of suggestions. Look for hotels in the Piazza Navona-Pantheon area, or between there and the Trevi Fountain or the Colosseum. Look at the map you got above and click on those hotels. Or look at third-party sites for hotels that you like and then google the name of the hotel to get their own websites. You will find that hotel rates are a lot lower in November so you should be able to get a good place reasonably. Please, think about this. Note: The ship's shuttle goes to Ostiense because there is a metro (subway) station there and people can take the metro to the Vatican or wherever else they are going. Or get taxis to wherever. It also means that the shuttle doesn't have to go into the Central Rome traffic. It is really meant for day trippers.
  16. I have been there on cruises and land vacations. You can walk right into town from the tender port. There are no tours to be picked up at the port (same throughout Europe). There are a few taxis, but they are not tour guides. You need to book your tours in advance. I don't know any local operators. Google "Nafplio tourism" or "Nafplio shore excursions" and see what vomes up. Good luck.
  17. Look at this shuttle that takes you from the port to whichever hotel you are staying in. https://sharedshuttle.it/ You are better off staying in a central location where you don't have to worry about transportation all the time to go sightseeing. They will also take you to the airport when you leave.
  18. Pinned threads don't move. They stay 'pinned' at the top of the first page. Look at your post and then look at the threads above it on the page.
  19. It will be tight getting to the train station after the climb. You might want to spend a little extra for the later train. The extra hour will let you enjoy a relaxed walk through the city instead of rushing and risking missing the train.
  20. Look at the "Hotels in Rome" thread pinned at the top of this board. Also, there are shuttles that will leave at your hotel. You don't have to pick one that only takes you to a train station. Search this board also for shuttle info.
  21. There are some very nice beaches in Santorini, all on the opposite coast from Oia and Fira. Here is a guide: https://santorinidave.com/best-beaches-santorini
  22. If you check the links that the OP posted. You'll see that those are ptivate tours. That is a good company.
