  1. ok then, where is the risk you were warning about regarding booking separate tickets? The OP will have lots of cushion on either side of the separately booked ATH-FCO ticket.
  2. No, read the post again. (not the first post where the idea was to fly to ATH via FCO) They're now talking about a multi city ticket Ohio to Athens and then Rome to Ohio. In between, after arriving in ATH. they'd take the cruise and then fly ATH-FCO to position themselves for a few days in Rome
  3. Theyre talking about doing that ATH-FCO flight at the end of the cruise, not right after they land in Athens. Its fine
  4. Thats what i wouldve suggested. book multi city into Athens and home from Rome. then book a separate trip on Aegean from Athens to Rome
  5. We have found that a nap, even a short one, on arrival day just makes us feel worse, regardless of how much or how little we sleep on the plane. So on arrival we check in or drop our bags, freshen up if room is ready, get coffee and head out to power through the first day. sunshine helps reset your body clock so spend time outside, eat a good dinner and go to bed about 9-10pm. We wake up after a full night of sleep refreshed and ready to go, and largely adjusted to the time difference.
  6. All I will add is that I would seriously consider adding an extra night on the front end. Yes, I saw that you plan to spend 1 night; I'm saying think about staying 2. If there are any issues that cause delay or cancellation on the front end, and you have to get rebooked, you can lose that one night and arrive on boarding day, which will be very stressful. It's happened to me and it's not fun. Usually having 1 night to spare is fine but when you are literally going to the other side of the planet, I'd plan on 2. Just my .02
  7. No. They are two completely different products priced by two completely different companies, independent of each other. There is literally no correlation between the two.
  8. Perhaps it depends on whether or not you used that particular card to pay for your flight?
  9. Interested in recommendations for a tour company/guide to go into Wales for a half day or so while in port in Liverpool. We have no particular ideas of anything we want to see or do, this would be more of an opportunity to simply say we've been to Wales. A scenic drive with a visit into a small town for lunch would be fine.
  10. The vast majority of the time, if you are booked well in advance and the airline subsequently cancels your flight, they will rebook at no additional charge on a different flight. It is rare that they cannot do this, and usually the result of some greater issue beyond their control (an entire computer shutdown, massive weather system affecting a multitude of airports etc.) But what most people don't realize is that you don't necessarily have to take the option the airline gives you. Use this to your advantage!! In many instances, a canceled flight is a great opportunity to adjust your travel plans to better suit you. Research the current option to get you to your destination and find one that works for you. Maybe you originally wanted a longer or shorter connection at a midway point, but booked elsewise because of the price. Maybe you've since decided you'd actually like an extra day in Barcelona before that cruise; now's the chance to move your travel day up. Best bet? Research and find the option you want, if you don't like the revised option from the airline. Then call them, and politely and pleasantly explain that your flights were changed due to a cancellation but the option they gave you isn't ideal. Then present them with the flight(s) you'd like to be rebooked on. They should be able to do this as long as there are seats available. And yes, you may even be able to (slightly) adjust your travel dates or or possibly even your destination city without paying more, since the canceled flight was the airline's decision.
  11. Sure, happy to help. I'm also seeing Premium Economy nonstop US-BCN on United out of Newark, or AA out of Chicago (I was actually looking at British Air but the flight was operated by AA. Didn't do an exhaustive search, but there are options.
  12. I was asking because you said Premium Economy was sold out on your travel dates on Delta, but I am seeing it as available on codeshare flights sold by Delta but operated by Air France, connecting in Paris. The Delta operated flight from JFK-BCN isn't sold out in PE per se; rather, it is on a plane that doesn't even offer PE. They do have Comfort+ which offers extra legroom, and it's in a 2-3-2 configuration which is nice, because neither of you has to climb over a stranger to get out to use the lav.
  13. Just be aware that unless you pay extra, the cruiseline is going to book you to fly in the morning the cruise sets sail and there is inherent risk in that. Yes, they'd be responsible for getting you caught up to the ship at the next port or whenever it was feasible to do so, but you'd still potentially miss part of your cruise if you were delayed. We were on a flight this past summer that was severely delayed and ultimately canceled, at which point it was too late to rebook anyone to leave that same evening. There were apparently a lot of people on our flight who had a cruise the next day and missed embarkation.
  14. Are you checking all airlines or just AA?
  15. Well, yes, but I wasn't taking international arrivals into consideration since it's not a factor here.
  16. I've never been to an airport where baggage claim was in the secure area, meaning you can be dropped at arrivals and go to baggage claim with no trouble. People do this all the time to greet arriving friends or family.
  17. 1. I didn't say 23x13x9 was outrageously large, but it does exceed the dimensions outlined by Delta. I don't know where the 45 total linear inches came from on their website, but the commonly quoted dimensions are the 22x13x9 individual dimensions. 2. I wasn't making any assumptions per se, just proactively offering additional advice about carry-on bags. Many bags fit the linear dimension limits unpacked, but have outer pockets that people often stuff full, without really thinking about the fact that it changes the dimensions. I observe pax struggling to get these types of bags in the overhead frequently.
  18. If you were flying from the US through Schiphol and on to Barcelona, and it was all on on ticket, something went wrong if you ended up going through security at Schiphol. You must have accidentally exited the secure area by mistake.
  19. Define "don't fly often." If you mean you fly once every 2 or 3 years, or even once a year then no I wouldn't worry about it; just get to the airport extra early. If you fly a couple of times a year then yes, I'd get it.
  20. Please stick to the 22x14x9 limits, and don't be "that person" who is trying to stuff an oversized bag in the overhead, and holding up boarding in the process.
  21. I was just going to say the same. Surely your cousin is not flying in the day of the cruise, right? Because that's just asking for trouble. Spend the money on a hotel and fly in at least one day prior. We flew to Europe for a cruise this past July, and planned to arrive a day early. Flight had a mechanical issue so delayed, then delayed some more, and then some more. They finally got a new plane but then another minor delay, at which point the cockpit crew timed out and the flight was canceled. By then it was going for midnight so there was no way to get anyone (let alone EVERYone) rebooked to fly that night. We had built in a day of cushion so we were fine. But many people on the flight were supposed to board a different cruise ship the following day right after arrival. They all missed their cruise. Talked to one couple who had to pay almost 600€ for a private van to catch up to the ship at the next port.
  22. And before the discussion goes further and someone inevitably says "all flyers have to have a drivers license that qualifies as real ID" no you don't. You can continue to use a passport or passport card in lieu of a "compliant" drivers license.
